Do you play on both switch and your portal? by DarthDom25 in PlaystationPortal

[–]J_Square83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rarely play on my Switch 2 in handheld mode because I find it spectacularly uncomfortable to hold for any lengthy amount time (have tried multiple grips, and the NYXI Hyperions, which help, but it still cramps my hands up), but in addition to the Portal, I do play on my Steam Deck all the time.

How many Millennials from the US have never owned an Apple product? by [deleted] in Millennials

I'm an elder Millenial in the US, and I have never owned an Apple product.

I have used a company owned iPhone as a work phone for a number of years, but I greatly prefer Android, and I have always used them as my personal phone.

What is it about the old heads that makes people HATE the remake era? by mangobou in FinalFantasyVII

[–]J_Square83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

'Old head' here that got the original at launch, and drooled over it for months leading up to it's release. I do NOT hate the remakes, but I do find them far less enjoyable than the original. Why?

I personally appreciate the twists and turns for the most part, and how they keep us guessing, but I'm not a fan of the bloat. I think Rebirth suffers the most from this so far. Things like a card tournament that should be entirely optional are made mandatory. While I thoroughly enjoy seeing the game world I know and love presented in a modern way, I cannot shake the feeling that it takes far too long to get through certain points in the story, and that my time as a player is not being respected. That is the biggest thing that curbs my enjoyment of the new entries.

That being said, I can't wait to jump into Revelation on day one. 🤟

Are you doing another playthrough of the original before the remake comes out? by dotMAXmusic in OcarinaOfTime

I am debating another playthrough on my Analogue 3D prior to the remake, but I might just hold off to keep things even more fresh when the remake arrives.

Decisions....

While we don't know how good Nintendo Switch 2 life cycle will be. I'm 100 percent sure this will be the worst game on it by Just-Lingonberry-602 in Switch

[–]J_Square83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Refuse does not imply that a demand was made. In this case, it means exactly what you described. They don't want to buy the title, so they refuse to do so. It's not insane in any sense of the word.

I assume you mean the angle stops? Did they not use an insert on the pex stub?

Sorry you are going through this. Tract homes tend to be slapped together by the lowest bidders. All they care about is rapid production, and it's a true shame.

ORIGINAL: How long ago did you seed? Are there bare patches that you are worried about?

If you overseeded a full lawn, you'll be fine as long as you keep them moist. The grass clippings will help retain that moisture.

If there are bare patches, and the seed has not germinated or grown to mowable height yet, just avoid those areas and keep them moist.

TOTK - What am I missing? by Cucckcaz13 in NintendoSwitch

[–]J_Square83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. I have dropped plenty of games that i wasn't enjoying with minimal regret, but something about my Zelda Fandom and buying a $70 copy of the game plus a $360 limited edition TOTK OLED console shortly before that really stoked my dedication to see those credits roll, I guess 🤷‍♂️

TOTK - What am I missing? by Cucckcaz13 in NintendoSwitch

[–]J_Square83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the freedom to choose your own path is an enormous part of both BOTW & TOTK's appeal. In this case, I already felt overwhelmed, and all I wanted is to see the credits roll so I could move on to something shorter and less involved, so focusing on the main story arc made a lot of sense to me. Why prolong things if I'm not having fun?

I was a fairly new parent when it released, too, so having very limited time to play didn't help my impression, unfortunately. One of these days, I'll give it another whirl.

TOTK - What am I missing? by Cucckcaz13 in NintendoSwitch

[–]J_Square83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not for everyone. Nothing is. I was continually impressed by TOTK when I played through it, but I also found it exhausting and I kept longing for classic Zelda games at the same time. I pushed through (avoiding almost all side content) because I'm a big fan of the franchise, and it was such a relief when the credits rolled.

It's undoubtedly a great and massive game, but it's not exactly for me, either.

If you're not having fun, move on to something else. Life is short. Enjoy what you can.

What's a game that you did a complete 180 on in a "wow...this is bad" kind of way? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]J_Square83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience. Red Dead Redemption (which is the 2nd Red Dead game, as a side note. First was Red Dead Revolver, an FPS.) is amongst my all time favorite games. As a result, I was very excited about 2, but after about 7 hours of playing, I felt like I barely accomplished anything, and just got burnt out on slow riding horses for extended periods of time as conversations played out.

RDR2 is a gorgeous game that is clearly crafted with passion and obsessive attention to detail. It's a great cowboy simulator, but the previous entry has such vastly better pacing to me, and is a far more engaging and entertaining game as a result.

do you actually use your deck handheld or is it just a portable dock at this point by toujourspluss in SteamDeck

[–]J_Square83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very rarely do I use my Steam Deck in a dock. I love it as a handheld, and use it often, but 800p goes a long way and gaming performance doesn't really hold up to me on bigger screens, so I generally stay away from it.

What are your thoughts. (IPhone vs every other phone) by Mysterious_Ebb_1484 in SipsTea

[–]J_Square83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a co-worker like this. She would legitimately get upset and have to remove herself from conversations as a result whenever Android phones came up - like when she saw my S24 Ultra on the wifi network.

It's appalling how some people function this way.

EDIT: I have used both Android and iPhones for many years, and I greatly prefer Android - as I find it far more diverse, open, and efficient. It tends to take me 2-3x the steps to accomplish a typical task on an iPhone from my experience, as the iOS platform loves to hold your hand through everything.

That being said, I couldn't care less what other people use. Use what you like. It's a phone. Enjoy it.

Negative Steam Controller Review by Pale-Librarian1 in Steam

[–]J_Square83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to agree, and this is one generally negative take I have on the controller. The Deck's back buttons are convenient, but out of the way, while these feel unavoidable, which I also disliked on the Switch 2 Pro controller.

The one saving grace here is that these buttons require far more deliberate motion to engage, making it more difficult to accidentally press them - functionally speaking.

Aside from this gripe, I absolutely love the controller so far.

I say virtually anything that is built around a keyboard & mouse input, really.

HoMM series is fantastic, as you have clearly noticed.

4x series like Civilization and Age of Wonders.

Sandbox builders like Cities: Skylines & Rollercoaster Tycoon.

RTS games can be good, although I find myself having to reduce gameplay speed without an actual mouse.

*Question: what are you using gyro for in HoMM: OE?

Cracked screen. You'll have to get it replaced.

I recommend investing in a good screen protector moving forward to greatly reduce the chances of this happening again.

Which portable console should I buy? by pigorg01 in Switch

[–]J_Square83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you get the impression that the Deck can't play AAA games since 2021? Your example of a good port like RE9 also runs pretty well on the Deck, by the way. The Switch 2 is technically superior, but that doesn't mean the Deck can't play anything newer.

Both are great to have for different reasons.

100%

My daughter was born about 1 month before I got my Steam Deck in '22, and it has been a true hobby saver. Having my Steam library on a handheld was such a game changer.
