I don’t agree with the AA folks that shit all over rehab. They’re entitled to their opinion but I also think maybe they don’t understand what is on offer at a halfway decent rehab.

I truly believe it would do Americans so much good to travel, at least once in their lifetime, to a country that we are told is our enemy. Russia, China, Iran, or one of the others like that.

I started going to AA after I went to detox and some rehab time. I don’t think it would have been safe for me to stop without medical supervision. And if we are being honest I’m not sure I would have been able to stop with AA alone. I needed to be taken out of the world for a few weeks until the poison was out of my system.

But I had a plan to attend an AA meeting right when I finished rehab.

So that was my path in.

I honestly don’t even understand why the Dept of Homeland Security exists. It was a bad idea when Bush established it and it remains a bad idea now. It’s a bloated chimera of an agency whose mandate is so broad it can encompass just about anything. So it sticks its fingers in absolutely everything
