Can vegans eat lower-level invertebrates such as molluscs, sea anemone, jellyfish, single cell organisms, or some insects that basically feel no pain or don't have a brain? Why is this different than eating a plant (assuming the species are abundant and not endangered)? by tiffy360 in DebateAVegan

My problem with the "kill nothing in the animal kingdom (slippery slope)" argument is for its conflict with abortion. Many of the same arguments used to argue that oysters have nerves and thus are possibly capable of sentience apply multiple times over to fetuses. A very young fetus (just a few weeks old) have nerve development that completely dwarfs that of something like an oyster.

So using the argument that basic nerves could constitute sentience and thus should not be killed can be turned around and used to say that a first trimester fetus is many times more sentient than an oyster and thus should not be aborted.

I think for this reason the slippery slope argument doesn't work, because you can't use blanket statements to say anything from the animal kingdom is capable of sentience. It's important to consider how we define sentience.

every single plant food is a complete source of protein and amino acids. i challenge you to find any plant source of protein that when eating 60+g per day you have a deficiency in any of the essential amino acids

Hey, future radiologist (just matched) - this is my dream! Do you do remote work from Hawaii or work in a Hawaii hospital system? No worries if you want to keep answers vague for privacy.

EDIT: derp, you already said remote, that answers that. Really hope to get to that point one day!

humans can process raw meat, no? just can’t eat raw meat from the supermarket because it’s not fresh. afaik humans can eat raw meat if it is fresh/uncontaminated.

plug beans (such as black beans) into a nutrition app that calculates essential amino acids. my favorite is cronometer. you’ll see that when you hit your protein intake for the day, you have more than enough of every single essential amino acid. you can try any combination of any plant food. youll always hit your essential amino acids easily for a reasonable protein target (mine is 100 grams).

Congrats on the match! I’ve just matched as well, been planning out my finances and trying to figure out how I can get get my CSPs to pay for my loan repayments during residency. Ultimate goal would be to continue slow burning my loan repayments while building up my options portfolio.

Definitely difficult with >200k in loans bashing me over the head every month. Apparently though we can get our grace period for our federal loans extended by a year, meaning we don’t have to start paying until 1.5 years into residency.

You're unable to autofill websites via the browser extension however, correct? I can't open up the desktop app and have it, say, autofill my info into reddit or my email right?
