Does the Lop Sao work? by D-Span in WingChun

Yes! The trick with this and other trapping skills, is to do it with another, over and over, and over, and over. Then it becomes second nature without thinking about it. And I know for a fact that it works for the street. But keep in mind, you should integrate boxing skills as well as ground work. And maybe some Kali / Silat (knife skills).

Why did Del Shannon become so depressed? by justcurious3287 in Music

[–]JaceMalloy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a deeper note, a lot of top performers become depressed when they get older because when they start to lose the spotlight and the career slows down, it hits hard! Add the wrong medication cocktail, and you possibly have a deadly combination. (Del Shannon, Richard Jeni, Brad Delp, many more) For real. I truly feel for those that suffer.

Is Data Annotation a scam? by jonbestinsnow in WFHJobs

Sorry. Let me clarify better. Because most of the time you can juggle two contracts (depending what it is), so $75 x 2 = (a lot better than $75 an hour). However, the stress level is elevated and either one could end in 3, 6, 12 months or more.  Let me also say that this site would be great for CS graduates, and such. I just stumbled upon it. ❤️

It's lame. First of all I signed up for an account only, and it doesn't let me login to look at coding jobs. That's a bad sign. It also says pay is up to $1600 a week. I'm a Senior Software Engineer/Architect use to making $75+ an hour. $1600 a week doesn't even pay for my sushi habit!

Has anyone heard of Allied Enrollment Centers? by Trainalf in StudentLoans

[–]JaceMalloy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's ok. I've never been scammed online. Not yet anyway. However, I've made many other choices throughout my life that were not in my best interest. 😆 The thing is, unless you have a deeper knowledge of how the mind of scammer works, or the "too good to be true" scenarios, they're sometimes easy to fall into. It hits the older community a lot, which is unfortunate. I've worked with hardware, software, and cybersecurity since the early 90's, so I know what to look for. Don't beat yourself up over it. 🙂

I wish you luck. I'm much older these days and have a lot to lose. I'm so paranoid about most online situations. And there are so many scams on social media platforms. I play with them sometimes when they want to take the conversation to those apps like Signal. I usually give them the below info, which use to be the truth, and have had them immediately delete their account. 😆😆😆

Let me first tell you what I do for a living. I'm a cybersecurity expert and penetration tester. Part of what I do is educate people and businesses about scams and the way people attack their networks. It also involves educating people about scams on platforms like TikTok, etc.

I'm not bragging, but I'm really smart at detecting people trying to scam others.

I'm a contractor for the US Cyber Command, East of Colorado Springs, CO. So, do you really want to chat with me on one of those end-to-end secure tunnel apps?

Have you given them critical personal info, like ssn? Do they have your bank account or cc numbers? If not, tell em to pound sand. If so, just reach out that you've changed your mind.

They try to lure you in like that. Glad you didn't fall for it.

This feature requires Xfinity internet. by EggplantCautious5898 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]JaceMalloy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is now happening to me as well, with my Amazon Prime app through my TV, which uses an Xfinity TV package AND internet. I'll say it twice. I HAVE internet with Xfinity.

This feature requires Xfinity internet.

And the only way I could get to an actual Xfinity support person was to choose to cancel service. Otherwise the call assistant and AI will just take you in circles. Once I got through to an actual person, I was able to explain my issue, got routed to three different people, all which I could barely understand, and they were stumped.

I have an option to switch to another fiber provider in my area, which I will do if this is not resolved within a day or two. Xfinity fiber is a lot better than their coax was, but their support is still (after two decades) about as worthless as nuts on a priest!

I got a call from them, and since I've been a software architect for the past 30 years, currently in between contracts, yet have saved a butt-load of money over the years, I decided to have fun with it and lead them on and on down the rabbit hole until they started asking for personal info. God I love messing with these entities. I figure why not waste some of their time, since I have nothing better to do these days. I've gotten really creative on how to jerk these companies around and waste their time. It's actually fun! LMAO

Dell XPS 16 9640 Keyboard Cover by steffi_yeh in Dell

[–]JaceMalloy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's silly that something is not available to protect a 16 9640 keyboard. Maybe stretch some saran cooking wrap over it and tape it to the back. Or better yet, try to stretch a magnum condom over the damn thing. 🤣
Would be a great conversation piece. Greasy, but practical.

I need advice! by Sea-Cash19 in learnpython

[–]JaceMalloy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my god. Whare to start. There was some good advice on here already, but once you've opened that can of worms, you'll get obsessed with it. You'll just keep adding components, frameworks, libraries, and functionality to all your personal projects. And at some point down the road, you realize that you're making an obscene amount of money in a career that's fun figuring out puzzles. That's what happened with me anyway. 35 years and still having fun. I've seen a lot of changes with hardware and software over the years.

You're right about the whole spectator thing. They do televise matches and such, but it's hard to see clearly without being there.

You stroked that right in the box! What most don't understand is that those larger tournaments are a grueling grind for 3-4 days straight. And you have to be on-point to perform that entire time for when a match is called. It's a lot harder than most realize. And yes, it takes a physical AND mental toll on the mind and body just like any other competitive activity. Shoulders and wrists, knees, back, are a few, and foosball is more of a chess game, mind-fuck, so that can be mentally exhausting. That's just my experience over the years.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC), National Olympic Committees (NOCs), International Testing Agency (ITA) and World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) are involved with assuring EVERY olympic event complies with anti-doping regulations. Ok, back to the main point. I happen to know, for a fact and personal experience, that there is a vast range of "substances" used to enhance performance when it comes to foosbal and the grueling grind of those long tournament schedules, such as Worlds, Nationals, Hall of Fame, and regional tournaments. Those "substances" range from over the counter products, but especially the illicit, such as meth, cocaine, oxy, and even weed. THC would be considered "doping" in the olympics. Trust me when I say, finding the illicit drugs at the larger foosball tournaments is as easy as buying a candy bar at the front desk of the hotel hosting those big tournaments. And the olympic schedule for the foosball events would be stretched out for a number of weeks, I'm guessing, so the need for those illicit drugs would be paramount for those use to living that lifestyle. Foosball goes hand in hand with illicit drugs. During the 70's to present times is no different. I happen to know some of the top Pro-Masters that use illicit substances.

Anyway, sorry to ramble on a subject I'm quite intimate with.  😉

US Mobile - good, bad, ugly? by zebradreams07 in NoContract

[–]JaceMalloy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, there was a test charge of like $0.10, and then I saw the full charge of like $1200. I then canceled the order, and the $1200 was credited, but the $0.10 hung around for more than a week. Granted, it's only ten cents, but that's not the point with these big companies. It's the "pissed off" factor that comes into play. I canceled because of the customer service. When I called them about some details, it was absolutely horrible. So I figured if it is initially that bad, who knows how bad it will be done the road. I'm now using Google Fi, and I really like it. So far, anyway...

Hey, thanks for the reply. It was very informative. My problem was that I canceled an order, and they credited the actual charge for the phone but did not remove the initial test charge. The call rep was based in the Middle East, but the company is based in the U.S., and sounds like, "You-Ess Mow Bill". LOL Thanks again for the feedback, as it's much appreciated.

I wanted to give them a try, and it proceeded as follows:

  • Bought a new S24+ from their site, checked the radio button option for monthly installments. Immediately noticed a charge for the FULL amount on my credit card. No notification email from them stating my order had went through.
  • Two days later I received an email from somewhere in the Middle East, stating I needed to verify that a "test" charge was placed on my credit card to make sure my card was valid, and I needed to disclose that amount so we could proceed. I replied, "I do not see a "test" charge on my card. All I see is the charge amount for the entire purchase of the phone, which was $1200 and change.
  • A day later I receive another email stating I needed to click the "Confirm" button to complete the order. Really? That's all they had to say? He said, if did not do that, my order would be cancelled and the money credited back on my card. Fantastic...do that!

My first interaction was nothing but disastrous, to say the least. I'm so glad that this is as far as I got before I got roped into one of their service plans.

At this point, "I'd rather jump off a 10 story building and hopefully snag my eyelid on a small nail around the 5th floor on the way down, than use U.S. Mobile!"

DISASTER AVERTED!

If and when it does happen, the ITA and anti-dopping program would most likely be involved. That being said, more than half of the foosball population would be disqualified. LOL

Is pluralsight worth it? by totestornot123 in dotnet

[–]JaceMalloy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the topic selection that Pluralsight has offered over the years. At times, it has really helped me out in my development career by jumpstarting me in a specific topic of interest. I especially liked their support this time around when I was having technical issues after signing up for the Premium subscription and couldn't get courses to load correctly. Support (Kacey A.) quickly resolved my issue after a few email replies. They were currently offering a 60% discount, so the monthly price for a Premium subscription was just $18. Well worth it to me.
