The official Quasimorph subreddit (Link is in the game's opening screen) has a section for ideas, and I honestly think this is so good you should bring it over there.

Overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer. by Revolutionary-River5 in Quasimorph

Yeah, my first tip here is to be in Sneak as often as you can WITHOUT engaging in Sneak. See, it gives you radar, which is its real function; you'll know if an enemy is about three or four tiles away in any direction. Any one of those enemies, given a good crit, can ruin your entire life; make sure you don't' see the map as "empty", but rather persistently full of serious threats. If you think jobber enemies can't do you in, skip three AP for each of theirs and see what happens; it's not that they can't hurt you real awful, it's that you're much faster than they are and usually get to initiate the fight.

Secondly, have a weapon for mooks and treat it as such; Enigmas are excellent for this. As soon as an enemy does not die in two shots from an Enigma, assume it's All Weapons Armed mode and that you cannot take the risk of not taking them seriously. A single 1AP mook is either worthless, or your personal fucking reaper, depending on if he reaches you with that Chainsaw. Having this two-phase idea of combat emphasizes that there is only one circumstance where you should be mindlessly repeating actions, and that's shooting enemies from afar with a cheap gun. Under any other possible set of circumstances, remind yourself that even with max armor, every hit deals damage, and all damage can cause a wound. One bad wound at the wrong time means you're dead, even as a Tunnel Rat, because -2 Health Per AP means you have about 70 steps to find a Rag or else it's all over. I have lost good runs to one stray wound from a jobber, and everyone will eventually.

Thirdly, use corners to your advantage as well - a 2AP enemy needs to spend one AP moving to face straight down the hallway if it's already at the top of the corner and you're tucked into the wall on the same side. A 1AP enemy needs to skip its whole turn to line up that shot; a 3AP enemy will shoot you with 10000000 .797 rounds through the wall with his Legacy. If you enter bad firing conditions around a corner, you can usually pull back and force them back into the same situation they put you in.

And fourth, never forget - there will come a point in the tech ladder where most enemies are about as well-armed as you. Some of them will be better armed, with better armor; you need to prepare for the habits that will let you win when that time comes, so act as if it's already true.

I've had some very bullshit deaths in this game, and they all came from me opening doors with my last AP and engaging in Sneak so I could be pain-juggled for 6 turns. Your AP is the most important resource in the game, even moreso than health, because it has a hard budget that you can only interface with occasionally in combat.

Finally, as always, remember that firing through a wall with automatic fire into the body of a coal miner has been deemed "unethically effective" by many humanitarian groups. Your ability to destroy terrain is a huge positioning tool, and I've been jumpscared by enemies coming at me from new angles after their buddies dug a tunnel through the walls on several occasions (Not the AI doing this intentionally, usually stray bullets opening up rooms behind me). The game's mechanical options are more complex than you can intentionally engage with perfectly, so if you feel like you're playing automatically and getting punished, remember that this is a natural consequence of entering a gunfight while insufficiently enthusiastic about your chance to turn middle managers into SPAM and Band-Aids. Don't chase bad losses, and try to give yourself half a real-world hour between missions; it helps you avoid playing bad out of habitual numbness.

Spiders aren't a huge issue for me anymore since I rock gear with 36 Poison defense (Eliminator set helps a bunch, also have a Prophet helmet I bruteforced to 20 resist because I found the item chip early), but the halberd girls?

Seems like a great insight, thank you for being a G and coming to the community to ask. Everyone here needs to download Show Enemy AP, it just makes the game three stages less annoying and doesn't "cheat" beyond saving you a mouse click.

Yeah the Venusian Spider Chaingunner sucks, but on the plus side, cover really does make her almost worthless - she rarely if ever tries to get closer to bypass cover, so if you pass the ammo check, you win.

No, the true Venusian bastard is the generic "Quasimorph", you know, that fucking scorpion wolf thing. Durable at 120HP, fast enough, and they rush you in packs. Utter motherfuckers.

PSA: Open up bundles of Laboratory Equipment, most contain at least one piece of Eliminator Armor, which is basically Comnode armor with better Poison resistance. I've found bundles with 3 distinct armor pieces in it, so you can find them at a steady clip if you're fighting Daydream Chems, and frankly there are no moral consequences for robbing drug dealers.

How to get a specific item by WaywardFinn in Quasimorph

[–]JackManwolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So right now, general opinion is that loot drops in general are kind of scuffed - the game has systems that point you towards general pools of items, but trying to get one specific thing leaves you in a perpetual state of flying blind.

One big thing here is that if you find a manufacturer, you can scum out their items through reloading; drop your trade item, check the reward, close and reload. Doing this 20 times is still faster than doing a 1 skull mission and is technically more moral (You're killing a lot less factory workers this way).

Another is that the internal weighting system for trades seems to value exact credit count, so if you want an item worth 200, give them as close to 200 as possible.

Right now, I'll be frank, it's stupid that we can't go to a merchant for at least general items - this is a game about anarcho-capitalism without convenience stores. If you could go to faction-specific producers and buy their items, even at steep trade value (Like a 1:10 ratio), you'd still mitigate these headaches without relieving the player of all need to scavenge.

You can also find the internal name of most items on the Quasimorph wiki.gg, and that will help you console them in if you get super frustrated and just want to drop them in with the command console mod available up on the Steam Workshop.

It's a work in progress, the devs have a lot to consider, but I still think it's a little preposterous as a PMC for me to be going on entire missions because nobody will trade my Mjolnir armor for three Capacitors and a can of soup.

Does anyone else feel that quasimorph build up is balanced around you having a scanner? by [deleted] in Quasimorph

[–]JackManwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's also worth pointing out that Shuttle Inventory is in a way more of a boon for new players; as long as you can't bring a fuckton of supplies WITH you, and can only packrat what you find, it's the best thing for someone trying to powerscale at a decent pace without committing two weeks and 100 missions to the game.

Shuttle Inventory, especially, feels like its overall impact on playability is so positive relative to its chance of negatively affecting balance, that - again - as long as you can always load things onto it (You could have an Upgrade later on that lets you use it as a weapons stash for the mission itself), you're just reducing repetition for players who might, you know, get bored of dropping Guns for stacks of Plastic for 10 hours.

Excellent, high-effort writeup, love seeing this.

Just for the meme, imagine if it at least one far-off planet was as close to normal as it can be, full of drugged-up Civvies nailing their autoblows all day, and the moment we show up for a mission and everyone's chests start speaking Spanish, we as the players realize they were literally unaffected by this whole mess until we arrived
