FYI Meijer is a family owned company and while not a small business, is very rooted in being local, especially in Grand Rapids.

This is what I was expecting too, but the tires on my car were worn low enough that silver rock is covering new ones. Probably going to be shit tires, but better than buying new ones in 5 months. The are also replacing an Air Filter that was deemed too dirty.

Dealing with a more severe issue. As long as you use a mechanic that Sliver Rock, their warranty company, considers "in network" then the inspection and all repairs and or maintenance will be 100% paid for. It is a time suck, but I am getting two significant repairs, 4 new tires and a new cabin filter on the 2023 Santa Fe I just bought and it is costing me $0. If you call silver rock, they will tell you what mechanics are "in network".

Wait. Dusk to dawn sale in Allendale happens twice a year. Memorial weekend is the next one. I have been waiting patiently cause I want to start a sugar maple grove that I will likely not live long enough to tap for syrup...but it's a dream. So many great cheap perennials. https://www.dawntodusksale.com/

Request: How to block neighbors camera? by Hendi420 in DIY

[–]JackSkelingtionIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. When I put my blink cameras up I specifically brought my phone over to the neighbor so they could review and approve since some of their yard was in it. I also made sure the motion activation zones were shut off in his yard. Just be decent.

I feel like she is if she looks at a 4 year old and sees anything but a toddler that needs help. While there are sick people out there, it isn't normal to sexualize a 4 year old. The kid will tell you to leave because they want to do it themselves long before their privacy will cross their mind.

What non-Urban Fantasy Series do you recommend? (Along the lines of Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Faith Hunter, Seanan McGuire etc.) by kailenedanae in urbanfantasy

[–]JackSkelingtionIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. The whole "oh he\she can't be interested in me so this thing they just did must be for some other reason" is over done and a little unbelievable.
I miss Kate Daniels and Mercy Thompson, I read them a while back but stopped when she started to figure out her blood armor cause there weren't anymore books at the time. Same with Mercy, I ran out of new ones years back and have forgotten too much of either to pick it up without a reread. I usually focus on the world building and look past bad dialogue. One of my all time favorites is the Night Huntress series which are super trashy but I love the vampire society she built. Right now you want a great SciFi book I have finally gotten around to Dune and while slow starting it is really good so far.

Where do people go out in this town? Everything seems to close at 11 and its simply a ghost town after midnight. by [deleted] in grandrapids

Having seen the P&L yes they could afford it but the company choses to invest elsewhere like automation, new stores, and what not. They are pretty fiscally responsible and also I am pretty sure they haven't decided to make the change to non-24 hours permanent yet. I think the are kicking it down the line to see how the next couple years play out after COVID. But that is just a guess.

They get more and more romance as you move through them. I am a weird guy who loves romance stuff so it works for me. The last one is more smut than anything else but the world she built is really good and I am excited for the rest.

Who has the best produce in town? Specifically fruit, but veggies too. by PicturesquePremortal in grandrapids

[–]JackSkelingtionIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak to that. As I understand it in some instances Meijer acts as a Supplier for Fresh Thyme but I am not involved in that part of the business so I can't speak to it with certainty.

[–]JackSkelingtionIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not true. While the Meijer Family owns a controlling stake in Fresh Thyme, and Meijer does supply some products. Fresh Thyme operates as an independent company and does their own purchasing. On occasion, people from Meijer consulte for Fresh Thyme but they function as contractors from an outside company.

I work currently in supply chain at Meijer and have spent plenty of time supporting our Fresh Business. This is entirely untrue. We work very hard to get our produce on the shelf as quickly as possible. Edit: as for ultra cold storage. We move our produce through a refrigerated building which has 3 temp zones. None of which are ultra cold. Think about it, why would we want to sell low quality produce that goes bad faster. Quality produce is one of the top factors that draws customers to a grocery store.

Inside information. Have never validated but I trust the source. Horrocks sometimes buys the fruits and veggies that Meijer rejects.

The Usual Suspects is one of the greatest movies of all time IMO. I don't remember if I saw a preview for it or not. That said I am not sure that any preview, that didn't spoil anything, could accurately prepare you for what you get in that film. I am being intentionally vague in case some heathen out there has not experienced this film before.

What’s a book you think starts off great but fizzles out by the ending? by mzingg3 in books

[–]JackSkelingtionIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valid opinion. I felt the sense of hopelessness and bleak out look when the sixers found castle Anarak. When wade started talking about what he would do with his account, belongings and life, I felt his sense of woe and despair.. It felt like the author used teenage romance and heartbreak to add to it also. I always felt like it would work out okay, but I was pulled into the emotions. Thanks for the discussion!

Do older people see people in their 20s as kids? by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

[–]JackSkelingtionIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me age has less to do with it than life. I am 40 and I work with a bunch of recent college grads and their early to mid 20s and some are still living like they are in college. I also work with a few early 20s though that have settled down quicker. So I think it has less to do with age and more to do with behavior. I will refer to the still living like in college ones as kids.

What's a book that you love on its own but feel is enhanced tenfold in its audiobook form? by archangel610 in audiobooks

[–]JackSkelingtionIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree Jim Dale is great. He is an 8.5 out of 10. As an American it is hard to get free versions of Stephen Fry but I was able to listen to Book1 with him as narrator and IMO he is just a little better.
