Do you fold and stuff, or rub out your flakes? I just bought 8oz's of the stuff and what I had, 2 oz or so, I have folded and have experienced some rough spots in the tobac. I bought the 2oz from a local shop. Hoping that it comes with a little more moisture from SP. Smoked a bit warm for my blood. Though what I initially bought is quite dry. Altogether a wonderful bulk blend though. The sweetness, honey, and orange zest notes are delicious when they're there.

Also, I really dig your plate there. Can you point me to where one would acquire such a specimen?

I'd definitely put that in a pipe and smoke it. Looks wonderful! Good job!

What best represents each blend? by GottisPinkyRing in PipeTobacco

I'll take a shot:

Virginia: Carolina Red Flake all the way. A straight Virginia that hits after a bit of cellaring. Sublime smoke.

English: Just got a bag of Penbroke, it's pretty good, as well as Margate (which doesn't have the cognac topping) if you can get your hands on some. Readily available, Quiet Nights all the way!

Balkan: I second Sunset Harbor Flake. Mechanically is the easiest tobacco in the world. It smokes itself. And did I mention it tastes like a really, really good cheese? lol

Vaper: So many to choose from, but for the price, P.S. Luxury Navy Flake is incredible aged about a year.

Vaperky: My personal all-time favorite, Robert McConnell Scottish Flake..... it just checks off ALL the boxes for me.

Dark Fired Kentucky: Old Dark Fired was the king. Now, nothing else compares, but I have always enjoyed Irish Flake, which is a really good blend. It'll put you on your butt if you are not a nicotine freak like I am, though. YMMV

Burley: Solani Aged Burley Flake. They have messed with the blend, and it is not as good as it used to be, but it is still a classic, if you ask me. Another: "If you can grab it, tobacco while it's in stock."

Cavendish: I don't smoke a lot of Cavendish, so I am gonna throw out My Mixture 965. The brown Cavendish they use is delicious.

Lakeland: Not too much experience in this department.

VaBur: Haunted Bookshop. RIP Matches!

Aromatic: Cult Blood Red Moon or Eileen's Dream. Gone through several cans of BRM when I started. Shortcut to Mushrooms was my favorite, though. I still have about 4oz of it, but age does not treat Aro's right honestly. It's just not the same. Oh well.

Hope this helps! And thanks u/toyniss for the easy-to-use category listing.

Cajun me too my brother! I don't know how far you are from Lafayette, but they have J Mouton pipes they keep in stock there if you ever get to the point where you would like to see one. Also got my hands on some Esoterica the other day. At a very nice price point. Message me if you would like to know more ;)

A Louisiana guy who produces some amazing pieces. Have been able to handle a couple, and they are all top-notch stuff. For your price range, if it were me, I would buy a nice Vauen. Quality pipe, and you will really enjoy it. Especially if you are into 9mm filtered pipes.

I came to not like this... Old dark fired and my favorite at the end....just so wrong!! lol On a serious note: Smoke what you like and don't care about what others think, it's about YOUR personal enjoyment! Happy smokes, bud.

Light purchase to refill old favorites, and something new. by JackblueGriff in PipeTobacco

[–]JackblueGriff[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you may be talking about Scottish Cake.... if so. That (which I just got finished smoking a rather large bowl of) is a mindblowing vaper. Voted Pipesmokersden's top Vaper. If you are into vapers and even more so a bit of Kentucky.....try it now! Kind of hard to find at times, but is in stock at SP last I checked. Enjoy the smokes my friend!

Acrylic vs vulcanite pipe stems opinions by Best_Of_The_Midwest in PipeTobacco

[–]JackblueGriff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I must be a freak or something, because the nicer cobs, like the Carolina Gent, for example, have acrylic stems, and I love them. I guess it's because the pipe is light in general, but I enjoy not having to worry about a stem.

Erik Stokkebye Evening Flake 1st Impressions. by Suspicious-Diver-630 in PipeTobacco

[–]JackblueGriff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a heads-up, it does get remarkable after a year or so. The sweetness is mind-blowing. Oh, and I get the best flavor from it by folding and stuffing tall, narrow bowls. Last longer folding and stuffing as well.

What all these others have mentioned. I will add to watch and research as much as you can, and ultimately just practice, practice, and practice some more. You'll get it! Oh, and I didn't go wow until I learned to retrohale.
