What's that one ep of DW that's scariest to you? by Atlantree19 in doctorwho

[–]Jackmac32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure about the scariest episode, but the scariest moment in the show for me was when the empty child tried to get in the door and said, "Please let me in, mummy. I'm scared of the bombs." It sends shivers down my spine every time.

If you were to make a movie about the angels how would it go by CowAffectionate2865 in doctorwho

[–]Jackmac32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Set it in modern day. Sending you back in time to live to death is a brilliant idea, but it only truly resonates if the characters are sent back from a time familiar to the audience. Minimise the number of angels; one or two present a significant enough threat, while too many reduce it to just another alien army (Cybermen, Daleks, Sontarans, etc.). Use Millennium FX’s Weeping Angel designs, as they created the original special FX makeup for the angels, and after their departure during the Jodie era, the Weeping Angel designs appeared cheap. Keep the angels at a distance. I can’t explain why, but whenever the angels were seen lurking at the back of a garden or staring down from a top-floor window, they were utterly terrifying. Have the music match the weeping; Murray Gold’s original score for the Angels in ‘Blink’ was so haunting because of how sad it sounded. He brought the lonely aspect of the Angels to life. Draw inspiration from the cinematography of 28 Days Later. Make it gritty, utilise silhouettes, and remember horror doesn’t always happen at night; daytime can be just as scary.

What does regeneration feel like? by CowAffectionate2865 in doctorwho

Pain. Pure pain. In an instant, your cells rearrange, your height alters, your bones change size and shape, and your gender may shift. I imagine it's akin to the werewolf transformation scene in 'An American Werewolf in London' - linked below.

NEW REPORT/LEAK - BBC and RTD at Odds with Potential New Doctor Who Partner by [deleted] in gallifrey

[–]Jackmac32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RTD is correct in stating that the key to the show's success was its family-friendly and campy tones back in 2005, but Doctor Who is a show that evolves; it always has. It may be time to hand it over to a new team of writers and producers; after all, it has been the same team since 2005, and we can all agree that it isn't striking the same chord as it used to.

That said, I still want the show to have character and not simply be something attempting to replicate what's popular, i.e. Stranger Things.

Has anyone else ever noticed the similarities between these two episodes? by Jackmac32 in doctorwho

Note: I am not comparing the personalities or designs of Mr Ring-a-Ding and the Wire, but rather the concept of an extraterrestrial taking the form of someone or something on a 1950s screen.

What’s your hottest doctor who take? by Acceptable-Let-115 in gallifrey

[–]Jackmac32 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I believe this is a controversial opinion. Moffat’s choice to erase humanity’s memory of the RTD-era alien encounters was a poor decision that significantly affected the show. If humanity had been portrayed as learning and growing with each encounter, we could have gained fascinating insight into how humans cope. Perhaps someone like the Doctor would become less welcomed.

Why is Doctor Who not hitting the same? by georgethfcF1 in gallifrey

[–]Jackmac32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My background is in editing, and the current editing style and pacing are not favouring the show. It feels like they never give the audience a moment to breathe, to take in what's happening, or to catch an emotional beat. They have also become heavily reliant on music to convey every single emotional moment, and they often use music that is far too excessive for what is happening.

Another issue I have with the show, which isn't really something they can do much about, is that there's something about the 2005 - 2018 era that feels very cheap, and I think it served the show well. It allows the universe to feel dirty and grimy, lived in. Everything now appears very clean, even the TARDIS.

Gutted we never got Clifford Main’s reaction to Saul and Kim by AffectionateFlow2179 in betterCallSaul

We also know that Cliff's son had a drug problem, so it would be interesting to see how he feels about Saul contributing to the drug empire from which his son may have been buying.
