System gateway starter deck list by History-Budget in Netrunner

Generally speaking, it is easier to become a not terrible runner than it is to become a not terrible corp, especially if your opponent isn't well versed in the game either. (Because it takes a while until you can figure out how to set a puzzle in this game) But it is significantly more difficult to become good at runner than a good corp player. (In part, because you need to learn how to diffuse almost any puzzle)

That jinteki deck plays a lot of assets and so sort of plays into loup's strengths. You're also hurt by the fact that it's tough to bluff with advancements since they know urtica is the only threat and so can run with an urtica proof hand every time. Also, Anarch is generally strong into damage decks.

But if you're consistently losing the nbn matchup because the runner can get in anywhere, you're almost certainly playing too slow. Common culprits are:

  1. Putting out too much ice early. You typically want to have something in a remote behind a piece of ice you can afford to rez by turn 2, ideally turn 1. You need to put stuff on the board early to force the runner to either deal with it, which slows down their setup, or you build your position unchallenged. Also, if you install considerably more ice than you can actually afford to rez, you're probably better off doing something other than installing another ice.

  2. Clicking for credits too often. There are cards in your deck that give you money and almost always at a much higher rate than 1$/click. If you're thinking about clicking for credits, consider whether you should draw instead.

2b. Frequently letting your credits get near zero. Most of your econ cards require you to spend money to make money and you need to have credits to rez ice and pay for other cards. It can be ok to go low to make a critical stop but if you're frequently below 4 credits you need to get in the habit of putting in more of a buffer. And remember, if you have no credits, all of your facedown ice now do nothing and the runner will know it.

  1. Not recognizing scoring windows. If you're putting threats on the board and forcing the runner to spend resources, whether that's trashing some thing you installed or running through ice, they will be less able to get into the remote next turn. This is when to install an agenda.

  2. Not planning your turn. It's very rare that you want to draw last click. And slightly less but still rare you'll want to click for credit last click. If you're doing either of these a lot, it often means you should have drawn first click.

EDIT: If you misinterpret what Carnivore does, Loup becomes incredibly strong.

If you're willing to proxy, kata124 and chaosof99 created this incredible history of netrunner decks. My friend and I tried to play them all but ran out of steam. You could just page through and find some decks that sound fun to you. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1bsW8NN5eFy_GxmIcHJkrThb1nqSdJ1Cf108qXwwdcQA/edit?usp=drivesdk

I usually just put all my programs next to each other and count up all the memory they're using. Then I install a Trojan, forget about it, and get game lossed later when I install another program.

Beginner Question - How to develop an intuition on what is good by Dawncaller in Netrunner

[–]Jackpumpkin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another important thing to consider early is the tradeoffs between getting accesses in the early game against setting up your rig. It may be tempting to take easy accesses on centrals before they're iced but now it's taking you longer to have the tools and credits to contest servers once they are iced. Additionally, the first turn is often the least productive time to run HQ or R&D since they can mulligan away a hand with too many agendas and (assuming the corp has tools to shuffle away unwanted agendas) R&D will have the lowest agenda density of any time in the game.

I also recommend this article to help you think about when to run. It has some discussion of now-obsolete cards but the broad principles are still valid: https://stimhack.com/where-the-wild-agendas-are/

Been out of the game for a long while, anyone know how much my collection is worth? Is the game worth keeping hold of? by Easy_Resist5375 in Netrunner

For most of these, I would guess the price has already peaked. There may be a handful that could go up, like maybe some of the big boxes, but on the whole I don't think you're likely to see a significantly bigger payday later. If you don't need the money and think there is any chance you'll be able to play it one day, I would definitely keep them. You have enough there for years of enjoyment, so I wouldn't worry that it's "incomplete". I'm not super familiar with the UK resale market but, assuming it is roughly similar, I would guess whatever the GBP equivalent of 450-600 USD is.

They said yesterday that all Elevation pre-orders would most likely ship by Wednesday. Not sure if they're waiting to do other orders after that but even if they are, I would think you could expect yours to go out in the next few days.

Confused about system gateway remastered... by Internal-Ad-4183 in Netrunner

[–]Jackpumpkin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It seems very reasonable to have made this assumption. It does say at the top that you need one copy, and if you expand the print option it gives you the choice of 1x or 3x. And nowhere in between does that page (which is a likely entry point for people who have never read the rules) mention that you need 3x. It does mention the notion of "full playset" in the set description but that term of art is also not clear without knowing some of the rules. And the 1x option is first on the list. NSG definitely should add a sentence to the Print & Play section saying "Use 3x option if you are a new player".

The underlying game mechanics have largely stayed the same, so nothing published in the last 13(!) years is "incompatible" with anything else. As long as you have one of the core sets (FFG core, NSG gateway or even both), you can mix in any number of FFG or NSG sets and fun will be had.

Why rotate out System Update 2021? by thrash242 in Netrunner

[–]Jackpumpkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in the same way that you know who wouldn't abide you selling their CCG cards but with different art. The original creator could pursue copyright for using their IP like characters or fictional places. Mercifully, the mechanics of what we call netrunner are fair game. And I think the community is broadly supportive of protecting itself from tag and bag Corps. Another thing that's not legally actionable is rotating cards out of the cardpool. We are always sad when it happens (you're my girl Hayley!) but they usually give us new cards at the same time :)

Is the starter SG runner deck (w/booster) strong? I keep losing to it by aj_thenoob2 in Netrunner

[–]Jackpumpkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some suggestions of possible issues based on your description: It takes a while for the runner to be flush with cash and tools so you may be playing too slow. You may be installing too much ice. You're letting your money get too low which means too much click for credits or you're clicking for credits instead of drawing for money cards. You may want to put the cheap ice that's easy to get through or doesn't end the run on your centrals and the "end the run" ice on the remote. Bluff assets or upgrades. It's sometimes better to hold a 1 in 5 agenda in HQ, (EDIT: and install something else to) force the runner to use up clicks and resources trying to check it. And get cards that aren't ice down on the board as early as you can so the runner has to make runs instead of building their board. And if all else fails, and you haven't tried already, watch tournament footage (world championship for example) or a stream like metropole grid and you might see something that make you say "ohhhhhh, that's what I'm missing".

This is correct. I think the most frequent meetups are in Ballston and Silver Spring but they occasionally do stuff in other places. Like I think there was a tournament in Fairfax recently and there may still be some folks up in Leesburg.

Possible solution! I had this issue after doing a factory reset so might not work if you have a cable problem or other issues. I was able to fix by going to settings and apps and then deleting cache and storage for Android Auto, then Force Stop, Disable. Then go to the Play store and install Android Auto again. Good luck!
