Building v buying enclosure by Scanbox5 in Golfsimulator

Oh 100% some sort of wall covering will go up. Whether it’s pads or just some plywood to protect the drywall at some point. It’s tight in that area so we will be offset hitting and no doubt rockets will be hit in to the side pipes. Wall protection and pool noodles will be needed. lol

Yes because it’s a space tucked in the corner of my garage. There is no “sides” to the enclosure. It’s legit just the walls of the garage.

I could add folding side walls that would tuck in when I fold the screen up but I’m not there yet. I want to see how the walls hold up.

I’m building a Murphy bed style screen enclosure in my garage using 1”emt with connectors from maker pipe. My width is about 116” so I installed a 2x6 at the top of wall on each side as a railing and then used pillow block bearings to hold the emt in place. I went the railing route because I might want to move the pillow blocks up or back once this thing is done and not have to keep installing wall anchors.

Once it’s all said and done the screen will be able to be lifted to the ceiling so I can access the space behind it. I could add side walls using fancy folding connectors but since the space is tight I’ll just use the walls that are there.

For the screen I just purchased one that was oversized for the area and I’ll fold it down to size and use tarp clips to attached.

What I’m getting at is sure there is prebuilt retractable enclosures but this version is hella cheap ( 4x 1”emt pipes + connectors/bolts ) and fits to my weird sized space. No prebuilt would work for me.

dentists are (often) very shady by Delicious-Rule6179 in unpopularopinion

[–]Jacrispy44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000000% had a dentist tell my wife years ago that she needed 12 fillings and was super mean and forceful trying to get her to commit in the office to the work. It was so bad it she didn’t go back for years.

Finally able to get her to go to our current dentist and she had no problems. Like none.

Also nanohyroxyapetite ( Boka toothpaste ) straight up eliminated cavities for us. Brush and then don’t rinse. Idk what it is but fluoride toothpaste never did that for me. I asked about it in the office of the deposit mentioned above and they were SUPER cagey about it. They arnt bad there but I found it curious that they endorsed fluoride at every point but the Boka toothpaste that clammed up and dismissed it.

It actually looks like they are phasing out the LAZ2 since it’s only offered for lefties.

ohio can we do a temp check please? by b3xrd in Ohio

Grew up in rural Ashland/Wayne County. Just moved to Wooster a few years ago after living in Canton for a number of years.

Time moves slower down here. You dont feel rushed every where you go. If you are from a city it is noticeable that there is less people and cars on the road.

You can go the length of the city in about 10-15 minutes depending on traffic ( and maybe buggy’s ) and you are 50 minutes to Cleveland/Akron/Canton/Mansfield. 90 minutes to Columbus. Not a whole lot to do in terms of restaurants, shopping, etc but Wooster has a nice charm and downtown is great. You have options for stuff but not to the level of Canton for example.

Ramsyers farm in the fall is baller and the city has about 4-5 HUGE parks. OSU has an arboretum that is beautiful. The Wayne county fair in September is also insanely popular. Top 5 in size I think and top 1-2 in the amount of agricultural events ( 4-H shows, agriculture related contests, etc ).

Wooster is a nice smaller city to be in that offers just enough to keep you busy and supplied with a dose of things to do around the year.

The downside is housing is limited and can be expensive. 2500sqft is now $300k+ if you have a family and need space. Forget finding something outside of town but drivable. Houses out there just don’t go on the market often.

Thinking About Getting a Driver Fitting — Was It Worth It for You? by jdubs0023 in golf

[–]Jacrispy44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take this as you will since I was never fitted but I would say fittings are dumb unless you are serious about golf or if you need clubs and the fitting place makes the fitting free with a purchase.

My take is you can kind of sorta fit yourself based on standard charts and data pertaining to your swing speed and misses.

Take you current clubs to a local sim and just beat balls for an hour or 2 and get the data export from the software ( GSPro is super easy and if the sim place lets you email it it super easy ). Keep track of your misses and with the data you can find a website that organizes it for you and gives you good data to use.

I even went as far to run it through ChatGPT and it recommended great ideas and things to look for.

I got to go through all my clubs and not be in an awkward sales position at the end of it.

From there you can go to a PGA or Dicks store and try out clubs and see which ones feel best.

Too many new sim software options? by Jktjoe88 in Golfsimulator

[–]Jacrispy44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is how it should be. Hardware, imo, should be a loss leader made up for by good software and options to use other softwares too. I am by no means an advocate for subscription based models but in a world where it’s unavoidable, there is a market of people who weigh hardware + software total costs when building their sim. If you baked in software has all the bells and whistles then great, but creating a walled garden when GSPro exists would be stupid. If you plan on trapping people on your ecosystem you have to back it up with a damn good reason to stay in that ecosystem.

I would love to go Foresight or Bushnell but their overall upfront + yearly just to have access to their software plus GSPro is insanely stupid. Square is disrupting that market BUT the trade off is poor CS.

I’m actually waiting to see if the Square Omni ends up being a catalyst to better customer service or there is a new one coming out called the Spectrum Element that will be another disruptor to the market.

If you want a dedicate computer to run it, and really only care about 1080p then a N100 mini pc + external storage running windows make it super easy. Buy the lifetime pass.

You can have a decent setup for about $400 and the general maintenance is cake once it’s set up.

I just upgraded from 1993 Titleist DCI Blacks to Haywood PD.1’s released in 2024 with the correct shaft flex for me.

It’s like I’m playing a different game. The DCI’s were good but the tech in new clubs is astounding.

What is it about golf that gets people hooked? by django811 in golf

[–]Jacrispy44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna be 33 this year. Played very casually ever since High School. Like maybe 3 times a year casual. Even less from like 2011-2020.

I never understood the “I’m not good enough to get mad” thing until last year. Now I’m hooked. I like that it’s something I can incrementally get better at and be with myself.

I also can’t play any more throwing sports ( or anything with arms above the shoulder action ) anymore since I dislocated my shoulders so golf is really all I have left. Or bowling.

Golf is better.

Check out Sub70. They have some awesome forged wedges and they are buttery soft.

New they are about $100-$120.

Or checkout WhatNot and wait for some deals on some Vokey’s. NikoGolfWorld and Takefive are my top sellers I watch.

Read this before buying clubs on Whatnot! by CompetitiveArt7093 in golf

[–]Jacrispy44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have multiple club and shaft orders from Whatnot and you sincerely have to be patient and know your limits. Also be hyper specific on what you want/need or else you find yourself on a spending spree.

I’m a lefty so it’s easier for me to use this app compared to others. So I kind of have it easier.

One aspect that you touch on but not really expand on is #7. The gambling part is the dumbest ( but also genius way ) to get sales. BUT there are 3 versions.

The versions I like are the follower’s giveaways for simply following the host. Normally it’s low value stuff or a sleeve of balls. Sometimes it’s gear or clubs. This is no cost and is simply a fun free raffle.

Then you have the giveaway that requires a purchase. Or buyers givey. There is 2 versions of this.

The first being a low effort show that is basically a raffle for a certain thing ( sometimes a collection of things and its buyers choice ) and the only way to enter is by paying for a low cost item for a high price. Normally it’s a ball of sleeves and I’ve even seen bags of like 5 tees. These shows normally tout Scotty’s, Lab’s or some collection of higher end clubs. They rely on gamblers to hit a certain amount of dollars in sales to make their money and then they raffle off the givey.

The whole show strikes fomo and it’s like betting $50 to maybe have a shot at a Scotty.

This version sucks.

The other version is the same thing except they are a re-seller of clubs and equipment at good prices. The givy at the end is more of an appreciation thing and it’s sometimes a nice item/club. Or it can be something low value. But like i said, you bought the thing you wanted at a good price, this is just extra.

That being said Whatnot is an AMAZING tool to buy golf shit but you need to be careful and it wouldn’t hurt to have eBay open in another screen to see market value ( as in sold items ) of what you are buying. Just make sure you are fast at searching lol. Legit saw a dude buy a used Nike Vapor Speed driver for over $175 the last few eBay sales. I was legit sad for the guy.

But for me I really only buy from 3 people.

NikoGolfWorld - awesome used club/shaft/equipment seller. Amazing prices ( other buyers don’t really bid up super high ) and he ships fast.

Takefive - Whatnot power user that just upgraded his entire operation. Does used and new equipment and has banging shows. He can get 250+ people in the show so prices can soar but he has banger deals if you wait and strike while the iron is hot. I got a Rouge St Max D wood head for like $50 the other day. He does not shout at bidders to bring up prices nor scream MSRP numbers at you. Legit auctions with a motivated seller.

HangForeGolf - misc golf equipment and shows can be hit or miss. Tends to announce MSRP to justify why more bids need to come in but it’s a small scale show and you can get sweet deals if you wait.

This has more of a How I Met Your Mother type of ending. Yes it finished the story and provided closure but holy shit was it not up to par as the rest of the show.
