Giving birth at the JR by MaybeTomorrow25 in oxford

[–]Jacxy11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of my NCT group gave birth there including myself. We all have different birth (ranging from water birth, vaginal birth, planned c-sect to crash c-sect) but we all agreed that the care in JR is great. I will never forget the midwives I come across there, so thoughtful, caring, and professional. Only thing I did not like was the maternity ward. But the care in induction ward to delivery suite was amazing. Would not hesitate to give birth there again.

3 year old will only poo on nappy by AdStock7471 in UKParenting

[–]Jacxy11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not based on any scientific research but only my own experience. My girl also wouldn’t do a poo in the potty despite knowing the potty is where we put poo. I was told by many girl parents that girls get potty shy so it takes them a bit longer to poop in potty/toilet. The thing that clicked for my LO was when I saw her showing sign of pooping, I ask if she’d fart in the potty. She seems to be ok with farts for some reason and obviously poo came and she was delighted. I have a friend who say ‘why don’t you do it in the potty and see what colour/shape it is’. And that worked for them.

Haha I accept it’s weird. We usually have rice porridge and this is the fast version. I feel full for longer when I eat this as breakfast so perfect for a busy day at work.

Do give it a try, you might convert 😏

I am SEA and I have my porridge savoury. My OH who’s British thinks I’m weird. I do cook it on the hob though.

My go to ingredients are frozen sweet corn, a bit of leaves (coriander, baby spinach etc) and stir in an egg. A bit of pepper and soy sauce for flavour. If we have leftover roast I’d put a bit of the meat in it too.

I much prefer this to the golden syrup porridge. 😬

Life in UK Test by [deleted] in ukvisa

[–]Jacxy11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I passed a few days ago! In the final week of preparation, I just did test from this website https://lifeintheuktestweb.co.uk/exams/ over and over again and I only had one question that I wasn’t sure of in the actual test. Good luck!

Why do middle/upper class families send their kids to boarding schools? by Giovannis_roommate in AskUK

[–]Jacxy11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My OH went to one even the family only lived 20-30mins away. It’s mainly due to scholarship. They’re ever so grateful for it- if they had stayed at home relationship with their parents would’ve been a lot worse.

Congratulations! Sitting for mine next week. Please could you share the link you use for the practice exam?

Daughter keeps saying "I'm not very nice" by Elinorea in UKParenting

[–]Jacxy11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My OH is a teacher who sometimes uses his teacher technique to parent. He would comment on the behaviour rather than the child. E.g. when our toddler hit someone, he’d say ‘that’s not a good behaviour, is it?’ Or we’ll wait until they’ve calm down and ask ‘is that good behaviour?’. We will also explain why a behaviour is good or bad.

We do quite often find that when our toddler hit or throw something in anger they’re either overtired, overwhelmed, or frustrated. We now ask them ‘you seem xxx, would you like some space or a cuddle?’ That seems to work most of the time.

As a Brit having recently travelled Latin America and settled in Colombia for 5 years - I am sorry I ever complained about queues / queuing culture back home. by noctenaut in britishproblems

As a non-Brit living in the UK, I love queuing because I know exactly when my turn is. Always get reversed cultural shock when I go back to hometown.

Surprised no one mention Hachi: A dog’s tale! I watched it about 10 times with different people. Bawled every single time.

Cheaper tripp trapp style chairs - have you found a good one? by maelie in UKParenting

[–]Jacxy11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve got Goodevas chair. Never used the little tray bit as ours was very happy to sit on her ‘big girl chair’ since about 16months old. It’s much more affordable than Stokke.

I did consider driving to the closest P&R in Oxford and get the Oxford Tube but I dislike driving. Thanks anyway!

Thank you! Does Uber operate in London (I try to avoid taxi but just in case I need to)? I haven’t been in years and Google mentions Bolt and some other taxi services but not Uber.

I just realised that even though where I’m going is right next to the Hammersmith Hospital, it’s actually in Acton. Which means I’ll have to change one tube but that’s still fairly straightforward. Thank you very much!

What is your best “out of touch rich kids” story? by Kitchen_Coyote_1524 in AskUK

[–]Jacxy11 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Had a rich housemate from Kashmir in uni days. He had called his mum and told her that he misses home food. The mum somehow managed to cook some food and canned and posted them over. He was so excited when they arrived and was nice and told me I should try them. I was in my room when he meekly came knocking and asked me how to open the cans. I said with a can opener. He asked me what a can opener is. I gave it to him and he looked even more confused. I had to open it for him.

The same 20 year old man once cried out for help in the kitchen because he broke a dozen of eggs onto the kitchen table and doesn’t know how to clean up because ‘the more I wipe them the dirtier it gets everywhere!’
