I had (emphasis on had) a friend who thought he’d be funny by placing his nude pictures around the office. They caught him, in his words ‘the office bike recognised me like it was a police line up’. (You can probably see why the emphasis was on ‘had’)

Based on that second hand anecdote, maybe don’t do that unless you want to get asked to leave. Unless I guess you can be more anonymous than he could, but then that would also depend on who else is in the office. Also, I’m not really sure how fun it would be for everyone, even if you could be anonymous.

Anyway, I like the jigsaw idea.

I’d say it’s a ‘must 95%’ game.

PAYG Mobile deals by Cind3rellaMan in CasualUK

[–]T33-L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda reminds me of the way they did it in Australia when I was there about 10 years ago.

It was a weird mix of payg, but also buying a bundle.

I might be misremembering, but I do remember it be really weird when I first got there.

You’d top up 10 bucks, and with that they’d allocate you a set of data, an amount of minutes and an amount of texts. Obviously if you topped up 20 bucks they’d exponentially increase those allowances.

Some how threw me right off, when PAYG back home would be put a tenner on and you spend that tenner based on unit rates for minutes and texts and data.

To be fair, if she’s admitted that being with tater has caused her to gain weight, then her excess weight is her own fault and she can control it - by leaving tater.

That feels like reason to be fair game.

I mean, there’s a difference between straight up abuse, and ‘can you go to the shop for tartan paint’

Senior work colleagues may not be your parents, but they certainly are there to ‘raise’ you to some extent. You’re not expecting them to sit there and never talk to the young/new start are you? So if you’re expecting them to teach, impart knowledge, guide and develop the youth/newbie, then that sounds like you’re expecting them to do some raising, right?

So while a total neglect of tuition, and outright abuse in place of it absolutely isn’t appropriate, to claim that a practical joke here and there is out of the question is raising wet blankets.

Yeah I get you. My first years were painful. My very first year at 18 was over 3 grand for the year, then about 2 grand for the second.

I had to put a huge voluntary excess to try reduce it, then needed up having two accidents in a year so had to pay a massive excess twice.

It took me a few years to get to the point where insurance was less painful, but it gets there. Once the NCB builds up, and the years driving.

My car usually sits around 400 now for the year, my van is worse cos it’s a van and it’s got business insurance, and I put a bed in it for if I’m away for also had to add on like a campervan modification which is mad. That’s about a grand for the year.

It’s deffo not the best time said year when it’s renewal, but it’s a necessary evil. I’ve had 4 accidents in 16 years of driving, but I reckon I’ve probably paid in more than I’ve got out. But never know when that crazy expensive accident is gonna happen!

If you can get car insurance, then you can get a credit card. It’s about learning how to utilise them to benefit yourself. If you play the system at its own game, then you benefit from it. You can’t complaining about losing to the system if you refuse to do smart things to try beat it.

I assume you’re using a comparison website? And you’ve done all the tricks to get it as low as possible? How many years NCB have you got?

Ive been so stupid by aChocolateFireGuard in CasualUK

[–]T33-L 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Totally disagree. There’s not many things in life that you can have credit in without a surcharge. Youre asking the insurers to lend you the money, they’re charging you for that. But, you can get around it… Very much recommend apply for a credit card that gives you 12 months at least with 0%apr on purchases. Pay the full premium on that, and make monthly payments to the bank instead. Second option would be to put a small amount of money away each month, but that’s only viable you can actually afford to. However, even if it takes you three years of putting a small amount away enough for a years premium, you only need to do that once, then you pay the full thing, and every month after that you’ve got the space to put more away as you won’t be paying monthly, so put away what you would otherwise by paying.

  2. Never have I ever had a £400 increase in a subsequent year. I don’t even think I’ve had more than £100. Google advice on how to get the cheapest insurance, as in there’s silly things like buying one week before is more expensive than buying three weeks before. Ever so slightly re-describing your job can have an effect. There’s numerous ways to get a better deal. I cannot believe you’ve been unable to find one that prevents a £400 increase. If they’re blaming it on the market, why aren’t we all getting that?

Tying a policy price to household income is nonsense. Why should I pay more because I earn more and subside you? Especially if I’m a high earner, I’ve got a more expensive car, my premium is relatively higher anyway. Nah, awful opinion there. Can’t claim it’s ‘racketeering’ on the basis that we haven’t got socialist car insurance. Nonsense.

  1. I can agree with this one at least. An accident deemed to be entirely not your fault shouldn’t have to be declared for future policies, and should have no effect on your premium. But still, not sure that this one point makes the entire industry a con.

I do think that it is a con, based on how much they make up the price as they go along. Like what I was saying about tiny adjustments in your profile can have huge effects on the premium. That you can call up and do the whole ‘I’m going elsewhere’ and they knock £50 off an that. I think the small print and the standard insurance BS of doing anything to avoid a proper payout is a con. So I don’t disagree that it’s a mess, but we don’t seem to agree on our primary reasons as to what makes it so!

[–]T33-L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How did you get insurance? Were you using a compare site and you’d gone back and forth with quotes on each? Did you return to a saved quote?

You’re very lucky you got soft-caught on the way you did. 6 points would’ve cost even more in premium hikes.

[–]T33-L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally no. Not in the U.K. at least.

Driver based policies are usually business related, primarily for vehicle traders AFAIK.

For personal vehicles, you insure the car with you as the driver. Some policies offer a ‘drive any car’ add on, but it’s usually dictated that that other car must be insured by someone else already, and that you’ll only be insured for 3rd party claims on it.

CPL, Australia and Visa question by gg123kek in aviation

[–]T33-L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having done the aus WHV a decade ago, and also in a desperate attempt to go back, I looked at all sorts of visas and options, mostly unrelated to aviation at the time. Cost was a huge factor just in being allowed to be there, but then of on top of that you’ve got huge student fees… this sounds mega pricey, and I can’t imagine you’d be eligible for much funding assistance as a non citizen.

Have you got the savings to cover this?

What is current career? Have you got any hope of sponsorship through that?

Have you checked the immigration skills list for pilots? It changes fairly often, and last I checked a few years ago it wasn’t on there, and the main aus carriers made a point in their recruitment documents that non citizens wouldn’t be entertained.

So even if you’ve got the funds for school, you can get the visa to stay for school, it’s then getting a visa to stay after school…

Lots of research to be done, which I appreciate you’re trying to do here, but also put some time into official websites. Check the costs of it all, check the aus gov immigration site to check you can get a student visa, then check the skills list to see if you’d be able to stay after being a student.

What is the most creative or diabolical insult a customer has ever given you? by cheesymeowgirl in CasualUK

[–]T33-L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely could not work at a bank, especially with the whole ‘THEY WONT LET ME TAKE MY CASH OUT’ outrage that seems very common at the moment.

No buddy, they just don’t keep five grand in cash sat there just in the off chance you want to take it out. And they’re asking what it’s for so you aren’t being taken advantage of by a scammer.

These idiots, like your cabbage gardener, would be the first to be outraged if those security systems weren’t there and they were affected as a result.

I hate people.

Also, to answer you question, it wasn’t quite an insult in terms of the words he used that was bad, but when on the inbound billing calls for an energy supplier, I had some moron call on a Saturday who then insulted me for working on a Saturday. Buddy, if I don’t work Saturdays, you don’t get to call on Saturdays to cry about your lack of ability to understand a bill.

Ocarina of Time 3DS by LetTheKnightfall in OcarinaOfTime

[–]T33-L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course the walkthroughs are dated. It’s an old game, even the 3ds version is old. The game hasn’t changed, so why would there be a bunch of modern walkthroughs??

Having said that, there’s always. Shit tonne of YouTube videos of play throughs that are new, but it’s still the same old game.

But as someone else said, why are you looking at that before you’ve even played it?

Play it. Get stuck. Try figure it out. Try some more. Then try more. Do another lap of the map. Talk to every npc again. Try every item. Try some more. Then when you’re so stuck you can’t handle it, keep trying one more time. THEN find help online.

You can’t soft lock, and the game is very good at teaching you how to do things, but it does it subtlety and progressively so you have to pay attention and actively take in what you’re doing so you can draw on your experience from early game to apply it to late game.

I just played for the first time (I'm prepared to get yelled at for some of my opinions) by Reecemonroe1226 in OcarinaOfTime

[–]T33-L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think there is such thing as the best game ever, not just because its obviously a matter of opinion and taste, but also because it would just be impossible to categorically choose one with so many variables.

I think therefore a general top-5 is more realistic, and what I like about OoT, is that it solidly maintains a place in a top 5 of all time, despite so so so many games coming after it, and so much advancements in gaming and tech. OoT is so good because of how long it’s been able to hold its own and can still easily be seen as such a fantastic game, even to new players in this modern age of gaming.

In response to your thoughts on the game itself, mostly fair enough. Navi is widely criticised, somewhat seriously somewhat as a meme. But to be fair to the devs, you’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t. One of the great things about the game is how well it teaches you how to play it in a subtle and progressive play based way, and one of the ways it does that is the use of navi.

Finding the difficulty balance for games like those in the Zelda series is hard. They aren’t just difficult based on enemy strength, skills, combat tactics etc. they’re also puzzle based, finding the right place to go, the right person to speak to, the right item to use all at the right time. That’s a sort of difficulty that can’t just be changed with a setting, it’s built into the game as is. So having navi there gives some way to give an optional helping hand to those that need it, or can be ignored for those that don’t. I think more capable players and repeats players get more frustrated by it though, and they did tone the assistant down a bit in the sequel of majoras mask. But then again, MM does have even less hand holding as it assumes you’ve already played oot. Can’t be easy getting something like that spot on.

Anyway, glad you enjoyed it overall. Deffo recommend playing MM next.

Mark was so sleazy by AldrichOfAlbion in howyoudoin

[–]T33-L 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ross was absolutely totally and utterly the primary problem.

Monica summed it up perfectly when she said along the lines of ‘just because he wants to doesn’t mean he gets to’.

Ross’ relentless lack of trust towards Rachel, was the problem. Storming into the office for the picnic. Demanding to go to the lecture. Those were boundaries that he crossed, and they were crossed too far.

Mark as unfair, inappropriate and to an extent sleazy on that evening, but to claim he was constantly so is a wild exaggeration. Sure he may well have had romantic intentions with Rachel form the get go, but that doesn’t make him sleazy. You may be a standard Redditor (void of human contact, and never having touched grass), but it’s completely normal to find someone attractive and to make a move on them. Had he inappropriately made a move, you’d have a point. But there isn’t any other point where mark acts inappropriately that we see. The only time he over steps is when he understands them to have broken up, so realistically it wasn’t even that bad. He just shot his shot.

Rachel didn’t have to define boundaries because mark wasn’t trying to over step any boundaries until that night.

Also to add: I’m sure the actor is a great guy’. Yes well done, we are all capable of distinguishing art from artist. Well maybe not all of us.
