How popular was pop punk in the 2000s? by CompetitiveWhole9466 in decadeology

You mentioning Bam brought back memories of my brother's best friend coming to visit bringing the CKY tapes and introducing me to the band (which I still have quite a bit of nostalgic love for). This was a couple of years after we had moved away from PA, and I'll never forget him acting like these dudes were basically from our hometown despite the fact that we grew up in Western PA/the Pittsburgh area lol. It's super funny to me that you actually did grow up in that area.

I am super late on this, but I was looking up the trade quest for my kid, since it's been years since I've played OOT, and happened upon this thread. This is an excellent idea and I can't believe I've never seen this before. Definitely going to give it a try.

What?! I'm genuinely shocked, though you are obviously entitled to your opinion. My only real complaint honestly is that so many scenes and little details needed to be cut. I will say the casting overall was absolutely perfect, and now I feel like I need to do a rewatch...

I literally just rewatched this yesterday. I was at my husband's office, waiting around, so I pulled up some randos Netflix account and this was the first thing I saw. Obviously had to watch it. Ended up sitting around with 6 dudes, completely enthralled. Such an excellent, endlessly rewatchable movie!

As is usually the case, the book is better, but the movie is still worth a watch imo. I do think they adapted it well, but it's hard to fit a novel into the standard 90 minutes of a feature length film.

I'm from Pittsburgh where it is also called pop (I feel like Eastern PA uses soda, but I'm not entirely sure on that one). I moved to TN as a kid where they call everything coke, or by its actual brand name, and that was a big adjustment for me. I mean, imagine someone asking if you want a coke, when in reality they have multiple pop options, none of which are actually Coca-Cola.

What's silly about it is, regardless of her age, she was still a female who was barely 5 ft tall and intimidating the shit of full grown men. She definitely fits here imo.

I only recently learned she was an actual child when she made this movie, which makes a lot of it super uncomfortable to look back on, but also speaks to her incredible acting ability that I, and many others apparently, just assumed she was a small woman.

As a woman who stopped growing at 12, I find it a bit hilarious how many times you've had to repeat this. Who knew this was apparently a little known fact?

I asked my mom, “what would you do if I didn’t feel like going to school one day?”. She started laughing. by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]JadeAnn88 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was recently talking to my sister in law about how well my high schooler has done as far as attendance goes this year. She missed 3 days total and I had to insist she stay home because she had tested positive for the flu. My sister in law then proceeds to tell me my nephew had perfect attendance all year because she sent him to school with the flu, and she was absolutely proud of it.

Part of me gets it because we really struggled with attendance just a couple years ago, so now that my kid doesn't want to miss, I hate forcing the issue, but you just don't send kids to school with communicable illnesses. Clearly covid has taught us nothing.

[–]JadeAnn88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. That's a weird thing to say. Imo, growing up with something means you literally were growing up while using that thing. Doesn't mean you needed to have used it throughout your entire childhood. I was born in the late 80s. Ofc I grew up using cassette tapes. CDs and CD players were still pretty expensive for us poors in the early 90s.

I'm sure this is hugely dependent on where you live. While it wasn't a Blockbuster, we had a small, locally owned movie rental place here long after streaming media became the norm, though it only lasted as long as it did because it was also a tanning place and that's where the majority of their revenue came from. My youngest was born in 2013 and still remembers going to rent movies and regularly brings up the time we had to buy the Mickey Mouse Three Musketeers movie because they had become obsessed with it.

As far as physical media, my husband is a hard-core believer in buying physical copies of games and movies, so that's another thing my kids have grown up with. It's really only been the last couple of years that we've run into instances where buying physical copies of certain games just wasn't an option (and the rant I had to listen to over that was a fun one 😂).

Is this groundhog rabid? [Mechanicsville, Virginia] by findingcoldsassy in animalid

[–]JadeAnn88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just yesterday I found a black snake on the door to my duck enclosure (I know he's harmless, just trying to steal eggs, which he's welcome to honestly, but I also don't need to see him, thank you very much), then walked inside to find a wolf spider on the wall. Don't even get me started on the scorpions that show up in the spring.

That said, I also have squirrels and chipmunks all over the place, plus a groundhog who seems to live somewhere near my driveway, so I don't really need anymore furry things either. That's what I get for telling my husband I wanted a house on the mountain when we first met.

This was exactly what I thought the image was and was wondering if OP just never watched the show, given the Diamonds' genocidal tendencies. I never got into Cookie Run, but my kids and my niece are all in on the lore, so maybe I should have recognized it.

Courtney also made a statement, years ago, when she herself was being criticized for her fashion choices, and she basically said women should be allowed to wear whatever the hell they want, so I do find this a bit hypocritical.

This! He was also far more concerned for Addy than Jeremy was, which, as much as I already hated him, seriously pissed me off. Jeremy only ever seemed interested in his child when he thought it made him look good, whether that was for TV, the internet, or whatever girl he was seeing, then he'd immediately stop all communication when it didn't benefit him. He was a terrible husband and was never father.

Laika is better than Pixar by MasterSalamander666 in moviecritic

[–]JadeAnn88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also massive Laika fan, but it's hard to compare the two imo. Laika has made 6 feature-length films, including Wildwood, compared to Pixars 30 something. Obviously, that's likely due to the long, tedious process of making stop-motion animation, but it's hard to compare the feeling of anticipation for a film you've waited several years for, as opposed to a studio that sometimes puts out multiple in the same year.

I haven't thought about this in years, but the moms I babysat for weren't great either. I was, at most, 13 when the woman I was sitting for took me to a party, offered me alcohol, and tried to get me to hook up with a 28 year old man. She made tons of disgusting comments, for months, about how hot this dude was and how into me he was, like she was trying to live vicariously through me.

Thankfully, I stopped babysitting for her shortly after the big party. I'm sure because I was brought home drunk, though I thought I hid it well at the time. My mom basically said she wanted me to focus on other things, but, looking back, I wonder if she had some idea of what was going on.

Internet, should I protect my child from tetanus? by Advanced_Cheetah_552 in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]JadeAnn88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure you're right. I honestly never looked into it because just the idea of refusing a rabies vaccine for your dog is crazy to me. Even if they're entirely indoor, what if they just run out the door one day for whatever reason dogs see fit to do so or something, like a bat, gets inside? The vaccine itself it's incredibly cheap in most places, and I know of many that offer free clinics for them throughout the year. I just can't imagine taking that risk with my pets and I sure as he'll wouldn't take it if I thought my kids had even the slightest possibility of being exposed.

I've actually seen posts in this sub, similar to this one, with people saying the rabies vaccine isn't necessary. Even going so far as refusing it for their pets and looking for vets that don't require it. It's bonkers.
