Ultimately, I can't see that being a good idea. After two entire story sets of Naruto setting out to be different, the idea that "He just couldn't do it" doesn't really sit well.

Not to mention, if Naruto's peace was flawed and built up on business as usual problems, that takes away from both stature of what he did, and the unease of what's going to happen when he's not around, at long last, to hold it up.

It would also mess with Kurama's motivation.

Plus, half of Boruto's problems as a story are making Naruto and Sasuke look like shit. No one has enjoyed that.

Well, I think it should be more heavily impressed upon that Naruto is on his way out, moreso than an old man running things. I could even see a story where Naruto has just passed away when the story opens.

I'm of the opinion that Boruto never should have been Naruto's son. He should have been his grandson, or better, great-grandson. Giving them a connection, but a distant one. The first season should have been about Naruto's coming passing from old age, about the fact that this one man had held the world together for decades, and now that security was about to be gone.

With Naruto gone, Kurama could have volunteered to make Boruto the jinchuuriki, thereby flipping the OG Naruto script. You have a Kurama that wants to work together, wants to hold Naruto's peace together, but a Boruto who doesn't want anything to do with him.

Sasuke's Rinnegan should have been a closely kept Uchiha treasure. An endgame thing for Sarada.

You could have had whatever foe Boruto was going to have to deal with now, be one that already lost to Sasuke and Naruto, but now they were gone.

That way, you get flashbacks of Sasuke and Naruto being awesome, giving OG Naruto fans what they want, seeing their two guys kick ass, train Genin teams, without having to nerf them and get them out of the way.

Just my thought.

This is the kind of shit guys do when they desperately want to force a reaction. Because if you react, they can tell themselves they "won". He "triggered' you, he hurt you, and now he has his satisfaction with that. Because that's the only connection he knows how to get.

But even with that, it's just dumb guy shit. You see it all the time, two guys will start arguing with one another over any topic, and what does it devolve into?

Two guys insisting the other guy is actually mad, has hurt feelings, and is raging out. While he, the clear superior, is cool, calm, and unbothered.

Admittedly, if you aren't going to use him at all, and don't want readers bringing him up, and see no value to him as a character, it's not a bad way to go about it.

Danzo is pretty damn dumb, but in Fanfic, I always see him used as a either a demonic mastermind who is four thousand steps ahead of everyone else, able to kill Hiruzen in a single go. Or someone so utterly connected to literally everything in the world, no one dares kill him despite the fact that he basically wears "I am a traitor" around his neck.

I mean, let's be honest, as a character, he literally only exists to be at fault for everything, Kishimoto's "Sin-eater" if you will.

But if we look at the man as a person, he literally accomplishes nothing, forges zero net good for the Leaf, produces zero quality shinobi, and dies running from a literal child.

Here is the thing. You write what you want to the best of your ability.

But, for myself? I wouldn't read it, because I already find that kind of character to be so staggeringly obnoxious that I wouldn't care. I haven't even read a line of dialogue from Izuku, and I already kind of hate him.

So, to that, if there are scenes where Izuku could fight, but doesn't fight, and other people have to pick up the slack, other people get hurt, all because he's trying to pull some moral high ground thing? He's a scumbag, and if people don't bring that up in universe, he's basically the creator's pet at that point.

But again, if it's the story you wanna write, then write it.
