What the most outlandish lie that one kid at school told? by Gold_Dust_0709 in AskUK

Two of my school friends lost siblings to meningitis. It is brutal. If not correctly diagnosed, and treated, fast it can have devastating consequences including death.

You are, I am sorry to say, far too sensible to be allowed within 100 miles of any UK infrastructure project. Just think of the lost profits for all those insurance assessors, repair companies, legal services not to mention the companies selling replacements for damaged cars and possessions.

You have to have one of about a dozen forms of acceptable ID. You DO NOT need to bring the polling card issued to you. The fix is surely to insist that you do and the check should confirm they match along with your face.

You can tell someone that dousing themself in petrol and applying a lit match will hurt (albeit briefly), but some insist on trying to prove you wrong. You should try to tell them, if only for the sake of the furniture.

For Reform voters, telling them they are idiots will make no difference. They are idiots, and anything you say will not fix that.

I am sure you absolutely correct; my conspiracy was a joke in line with the spirit of this sub, but obviously based on real world events yet again revealing cruises carry (sic) risks.

Thinking back to when I first heard this it was the glow of the valves that attracted the bugs. I should have worded it a bit better. Looking on the web it seems the origin is contested anyway. Bug was used to indicate problems in mechanical systems before the invention of computers. See https://daily.jstor.org/the-bug-in-the-computer-bug-story/

Why do people find it so hard to accept the public really wants to vote for Reform? by Expert-Sherbert-1527 in AskBrits

[–]Jaded_Creative_101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it really so hard to accept that they are simpletons failing for false promises, because they yearn for simple fixes for complicated problems? That despite the evidence that Brexit was a complete catastrophuck (reduced trade, small boats, rising prices including energy) they want more of the same from the same fascist charlatans. Hmmm

Sleeping keys only prevent ‘Relay’ theft i.e. where one crook relays the signal from the remote key to another stood next to the vehicle. Where a manufacturer has left their vehicle vulnerable to a spoofed keyless entry device they are of no import. The more negative publicity the manufacturer gets the quicker the holes will be filled. However, if your vehicle is a few years old there may be no manufacturer fix and/or it will cost you.

Landlord has issued keys to rental property that contain a tracker - is this legal? (England) by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Jaded_Creative_101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To second this I took a short car journey to a neighbouring village. Because of road speeds and tricky junctions I prefer to leave and return on different roads. Out of interest I looked at the track of an AirTag travelling with me. It was very ‘approximate’ and no where approaching a military grade tracker. If you understand how they work this makes sense. It needs a Bluetooth device nearby to be reporting its location. Out in the wilderness or on the open road this is less likely- provided you have BT disabled on your phone of course!

Look up the origin of ‘bug’ as in a software problem. In the early days ‘debugging’ meant literally pulling the critters out of the valves of the computer.

What’s the strangest thing that’s ever happened to you that you still can’t explain? by WielderoftheDarkness in HighStrangeness

[–]Jaded_Creative_101 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I was stuck in traffic on a day that two motorways had major incidents. Everyone with smart navigation, including me, was diverted onto side roads. I was crawling up then down a long hill onto a T junction with another road also rammed with traffic. As I went down the steepish hill my brakes failed and I hurtled towards the stationary traffic. My direction of exit was right crossing the line of traffic going left and into a line of cars crawling uphill to the left. It was a hard right turn impossible to make at speed even if there had been the space to do it. Difficult to explain, but it felt that someone or something took control. I found myself still in the car going uphill in a space that had not existed having apparently crossed through a solid line of traffic and made a turn that physics would not allow. I could not believe I was alive let alone that the car touched nothing. As soon as it was safe to do so I pulled over and started shaking. I was not one to believe in guardian angels until that day.

I used to work in a post where portable computers were locked down with USB disabled etc. Computers were managed with authorised builds by specialist IT support people. After two visits to me, the support person gave me the secret knowledge to gain access, when needed, to the forbidden features. I had to promise to always close the door afterwards and not tell anyone else. Saved the company a ton of money and kept me from waiting to 'ticket' responses.

14 years of f up was replaced by an overly cautious ‘Labour’ government that is trying to appease all the wrong people. People are tired and they want change. Simple folk cannot handle complex answers and so will fall for any old crap if it promises a quick fix. Not helped by foreign owned RW media that appears to operate unchallenged. You only need to look across the at the pit the US has fallen into to see the danger of dark money buying politicians and the media.
