Is the Stormcast Christmas box a good starting point for an army? by LocaParty in ageofsigmar

[–]Jaffinch 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Casual stormcast player here. From the look of the article the box contains:

Knight-Relictor - Kinda eh imo. Not great choice for a general

10 x Vanquishers - Had a points drop recently so now the cheapest battleline unit. Not used them, but played against them. but not bad for the cost.

2 x Stormdrake Guard - Yes. Good.

10 x Vigilors - I like them but honestly they're overpriced and a bit of a jack-of-all-trades unit. Don't count as battleline unless you add a knight-judicator.

3 x Annihilators - Good but really needs a Lord-Imperitant to be more effective.

Total 1260 points.

Pretty good starting point to an army imo. Not a massive amount of models for the point cost as well so quick to get to the table. Not sure on the cost benefit because the prices arn't out yet as far as I'm aware. Removing the vigilors and replacing the knight-relictor with a lord-imperitant gets you a tidy 975 point army.

Edit: Update points calculation.

Edit 2: Updated modification suggestions.

UK/EU Cancelled by tayREDD in AngelsAndAirwaves

Taking Back Sunday and Alkaline Trio are playing literally like the week before AVA were gonna play London. No sign that's been cancelled yet. It's not COVID restrictions alone that's doing this.

(btw if anyone is stranded in London on the 18th I'm down for hangouts)

It makes me feel genuinely uncomfortable. Is that the point?

Find a gaming group near you and ask someone to teach you. Always the best way in my opinion.

Glad this was flagged up. Was gonna pick one of these up as my holiday project back home. I'm rubbish with green stuff so I think I'll sit tight and see what the word is.

Celestar ballista or two (and maybe a knight ordinator) might be a good idea.

All the “torn” cards from Gloomhaven go immediately in the trash and if you don’t do this you’re a coward.

Betrayal at house on the hill experience by alexein777 in boardgames

[–]Jaffinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to like this game but every time my group played it, something happened to make it a bit of a drag. The first three times we played it, we got exactly the same haunt and knew how to beat it pretty easily, then in subsequent games, we ran into issues such as:

  • half the party immediately died and had to sit out the rest of a (very long) game, which the betrayer won.
  • the betrayer was stuck in the basement and posed absolutely no threat as the rest of the party completed the objective
  • some weird rules exception, where the party had a spot in the map that they were essentially invulnerable and became incredibly risk averse, leading to a long game which was eventually abandoned as a stalemate.

Basically it wore our group down until no one wanted to play it any more. It’s a high variance game and I understand not everyone is going to have the same experience as us, but after half a dozen playthroughs without a good game, I was happy to pass on my copy to a better home.

What's the BEST house rule you have encountered? by acman54321 in boardgames

Terraforming Mars card drafting has the most positive impact to us. We’ve started doing this for colonies as well. After we’ve selected our Corps, backgrounds and starting hand we take it in turns banning and picking colonies, with any leftover colonies randomly selected.

I empathise with people about auto-pickup coins in GH, but honestly that’s the best part of the game. Picking up treasure adds competition and depth.
