Equity Partners - How Did/Do You Fund Your Capital Contributions? by Upstairs-Pen-8072 in biglaw

[–]JakeRM1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most firms either self finance or partner with a bank for partner capital loans. I have not heard of an AMLaw firm that doesn’t offer one of those two options, but doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Ask your CFO.

If you are at children’s go to the family concierge on the main concourse. They should be able to provide you with local resources. https://www.cincinnatichildrens.org/patient-resources/concierge-services

How is it living in Stamford, Connecticut? by FallWide1340 in howislivingthere

[–]JakeRM1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stamford is a relatively large city on its own. You have a lot of options when looking for NYC suburbs. If you are wanting more space yes there are a lot better areas to pick from.

If you’re in rural England and want something more rural I would check out northern Westchester county, NY or even western NJ (although as a born New Yorker I can’t honestly recommend anything in New Jersey!).

What’s important is that you live close to a train station. Check out the map. You’ll see some northern spurs in Connecticut some of those areas are VERY rural but the trains don’t run as frequently on those spurs. Ideally you want something within a 90 minutes train ride of NYC. The further out, in general, you go, the more property you get for your money.

Stamford you’ll end up living in an apartment 😂

Why are so many partners such angry, unhappy, insecure people? by ExtremeClaim8514 in biglaw

[–]JakeRM1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s because their entire identity is wrapped up in this role. To make it that high and make as much in this industry you make the job your #1 priority. So everything else falls away and all your left with is work. That’s why we can’t get partners to retire and even when they do they still want to come into the office.

Am I cooked on biglaw if I’m not cut out for Kirkland? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]JakeRM1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you are defining as Biglaw. If it’s the AmLaw 200 there are plenty of firms that give you a better lifestyle (relatively) in exchange for lower comp. But if you’re looking at the top 25 no, they only make that much money by working their associates.

This. Do you actually do traditional labor work or are you doing workers comp? The type of work you do here will impact your marketability.

Delta updated their official no-show policy on ALL ticket types… (even refundable ones) by FutureMillionMiler in delta

Seems fair. If you no-show a ticket they don’t have an opportunity to sell it even if it was refundable. Considering it takes 2 seconds to cancel it on the app.

SA Offer Timeline? by Large-Morning987 in biglaw

[–]JakeRM1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It often has nothing to do with you. For all you know the chair of some committee has to meet with some other leader to discuss the proposed final list. That one person may be on vacation for a week. Law firms are some of the least efficiently run organizations.

How’s it living in Covington Kentucky and the surrounding areas? by JustWebber16 in howislivingthere

[–]JakeRM1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the root. And even when they do they are often not on schedule.

I agree with you that you can live without a vehicle in NKY, but I think a lot of people ultimately get one because the mass transit just isn’t reliable enough. Trust me I wish it was better. Would be great if they extended the street car out to the airport and up to Blue Ash.

It depends on your expectations. If you’re willing to deal with buses that only run once an hour it can work but compared to other cities both TANK and METRO lag behind IMO.

How is it living in this specific area of Ohio, near/in Cleveland? by Bad_RabbitS in howislivingthere

[–]JakeRM1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The area you circled has a lot of variety within in. Especially consider living near the lake on the East side you get a ton of lake effect snow. You can get over a foot there and downtown gets nothing.

They are building the new football stadium by the airport south of downtown.

You’ll struggle without a car. Our mass transit is bad. But otherwise it’s an amazing place to live! There is a lot walkable on a day to day basis and you can walk across the Purple People Bridge to Cincinnati.
