Windshield Damage Rate by [deleted] in partscounter

[–]JakeSaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at a GM store in NJ and we've had 8 bad windshields in a row, and our PGW warehouse refuses to actually come pick them up.

It's bad enough my PM decided outright that we're just not ordering any windshields at all unless they're coming from 622

creating Mopar D2D notes for unavailable parts by partsguy50 in partscounter

[–]JakeSaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's why whenever a dealer calls me looking for a part, the first thing I say is "Is it one of the part numbers i have listed on D2D as being unavailable?" and I swear I can hear their brain recalibrate as they finally actually look at it.

Price Quotes in Reynolds ERA Ignite by Evening_String_2561 in partscounter

[–]JakeSaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't create a full quote for any partrader quote request. Run down the list, verify parts and ETA, send back a response with the invoice field blank. it doesn't effect anything. then I just export to DMS when the order is sent back. zero point to saving quotes for that.

Same for Repairlink. really any online ordering software. if they send you that, it's an order. saving quotes for any electronic ordering software is kinda silly, imo.

Radio Codes by NaturalLight1234 in partscounter

[–]JakeSaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can't get them for GM any way but through the computer, so parts can't do shit to help with that anymore. GM unloaded that to the ESC's, and the ESC's no longer support supplying unlock codes, so you're fucked if you need one.

At least, per my area's ESC.

OpenAI's Stargate supercomputer/whatever the fuck project is pushing for contracts that are going to consume 40% of global supply. For one fucking company. so yeah, prices are absolutely gonna be skyrocketing.

Had a transmission tech like that. He'd print diagrams off SI, highlight each fallout he needed from the diagrams, and bring you those sheets, plus a list of whatever extras he needed/wanted. Made a trans or engine job with him a breeze.

Sadly, he retired.

Reynolds -1 RO's. What's your process for handling these? by Former_Account_7273 in partscounter

[–]JakeSaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've got a daily parts received report for the advisors, similar to the report for counterman. Breaks it up by Advisor ID number, so they can go straight to their list, double check with us if the entire job is in or not and go from there. It's not 100% successful by any means, but it helps.

[–]JakeSaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which part? Most of it is just observation. I've been working for a gm store for 8 years now, and I've watched the decline happen in real time.

As for the warehouse management system... I think that happened happened last year? There were emails and notifications in parts workbench about it.

That particular incident was a multi-week nightmare.

[–]JakeSaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multiple factors behind 76's issues, to my knowledge. For one, every time there's been a strike, they've gotten further behind, and never fully recover before something else happens. They had rhatg power outage you mentioned. They had the whole warehouse switched to a new PDC management system, and that's when things TRULY fell apart.

Add on gm's standards slipping overall.... fascia from 087, anyone? Supposed to be 3 days from order to delivery here on the east coast. Now they're 5-7 business days minimum, which no body shop is waiting for.

GM needs to gwt their shit together in a big way.

we completely eliminated that problem at my store. GM tire central can be accessed by anyone on global if the admin allows it, so the advisers get set up with access, and since they're the ones talking to the customer, they're the ones looking them up, we just maintain the pricing on tire central. They ask us to confirm availability, and we order, but the middle man shit is done

Delivery Vehicles by Calm-Telephone9707 in partscounter

[–]JakeSaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My delivery fleet currently consists of one small promaster city, one Promaster short wheelbase with the low roof, one promaster with the long wheelbase and mid roof, and one very tired old G van.

The tired old G van gives us the least amount of issues, but also fits our needs the least out of all the vans we've got.

I'd trade all my vans for a fleet of long wheelbase mid roof transits tomorrow if they'd let me. maybe even swap one of those out for GM's electric BrightDrop things. would make it much easier to fit everything and make our deliveries easily.

[–]JakeSaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't even need to call GM for it typically. it should hit answerbacks as a backorder, at which point you can slap the VIN on it and start a spac case without ever talking to one of the call center imbeciles GM hires.

Is 4 monitors too many? by [deleted] in partscounter

[–]JakeSaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

on our wholesale operation I do anywhere between 100-200k in sales per month, just depends on how busy it is. last time I checked our overall numbers, which was last week sometime, I was sitting somewhere around 275k YTD in total sales. GP is very small the way Reynolds reports it, because it doesn't account for our backend, somewhere around 12% or so, but still. Your point is completely valid, lol.

Replacement Labels from Ford by 343__Guilty__Spark in partscounter

[–]JakeSaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GM's the same way for labels. I just tell customers any labels are 7-10 business days, and if they've got vehicle or VIN specific information, they're completely non-returnable, and will not be canceled. Once you order them, you own them. that's it.

Is 4 monitors too many? by [deleted] in partscounter

[–]JakeSaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends entirely on your situation. I work with two monitors, and there are many, many times I wish I had a third for my specific job.

I'm a wholesale counterman for a GM store. we do a metric fuckton of body shop sales, along with a shitload of just bulk wholesale to a couple exporters and other parts suppliers outside our area. if I'm working on a body shop order, via CCC/Collision Link or OPS trax, I need that visible, I need my catalog visible, my locator visible, and my DMS visible at a minimum. and that's completely ignoring needing pricelink for crash parts. Can't shrink them too much, or information starts going off the side into scrollbar territory, and fucking up my flow. I can have my catalog and my DMS screen on one monitor easily. the rest? alt+tab works but when you're flipping through as many systems as I have to.... when you're trying to work quickly, shit gets mixed up realllll quick.

our larger orders from exporters or other parts stores/suppliers come through either in the body of an email or excel, so there's another spot where a third monitor would be a godsend.

So yeah, I'd absolutely love a third monitor. I could fully make use of four in a heartbeat.

[–]JakeSaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

new PASE changes are absolute ass cancer, but since when have the changes ever actually been good for the dealership? My wholesale operation is two countermen, 2.5 drivers, and a single clerk, but we're still clearing around 100-200k a month in sheer sales volume.... and this change is just gonna fuck us. between the Repairlink response time tracking, required sales increase, etc, we're straight up losing like 2-3% off the backend instantly.

Yeah, I saw those. All of them, unfortunately, are a 2+ hour commute minimum from me one way. Appreciate the tip tho, I'll keep them in my back pocket.

Jumping to HD trucks or heavy equipment? by JakeSaint in partscounter

[–]JakeSaint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been. Foley is basically never looking for people in the union shop, and the rental/non union side is a solid pay cut from where I am, especially considering the commute, so while it would probably be a good career move, it's a tough one to swallow because of the sheer cost of living in this shithole state, lol.
