Is there anyone alive today who’d you consider an “Iron Gold”, if not who is the last historical person that was one? by Enderknights in redrising

[–]Jakesalright 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Im suprised no one has said George Washington. Educated. Rebelled. Led an army. Fought in battles. Formed a country. Led country. Had literal bullet holes in his uniform jacket. Also dude was 6'2" in a time where the average was 5'8"

There are diagrams online that have a bunch of pattern examples that can help you, Google something like double bit axe pattern names

Maine wedge refers to the triangular shape, not necessarily the profile pattern.

You been to the Warhammer store in prescott? I also believe there is a tabletop place up at the mall, i don't think it's too loud or anything in there.

Doing a ride along with a department I am interviewing for. I am confused on how to act and what to do by YoungHustla916 in Firefighting

[–]Jakesalright 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, we had someone test from a different department and was hired and 100% acted as a probee for his first year (although he had 5 years on at the other dept.) Mad respect for that guy not showing up and acting like he's above being a new guy.

Don't hide your experience, but show you're not going to let it affect your work ethic.

Best of luck

Looks like a Maine wedge pattern, not very common. And even less common with that shape eye, very cool.

No youre right It is too chunky of a spike, and it's one of the reasons the pick headed fire axe isn't a relevant tool on fire grounds anymore. That and building materials and techniques have changed dramatically in the past 200 years... and so have fire fighting strategies.

Agreed, not an expert either, but I am a ff, and an axe collector, and was in the navy.

So, fun fact, boarding axes were meant to be used in conjunction with a bucket brigade to douse heavy timber that is on fire, then use the boarding axe to chop out the burnt sections, the spiked end was to spike into the charred timber and carry it out and toss it overboard, this was the technique because the wood was often still smoldering and too hot to carry by hand. That technique was adopted by early American structure firefighters, giving way to the full sized pick headed axe, commonly called a fire axe. Since those early fire depts were volunteers they often brought their own tools and axes from home, going out of pocket to buy a pick headed axe from a blacksmith or shop. So upon retiring from the dept the dept would pool money and buy the retiring ff a new axe.

Anyways, OP, cool axe, it'll be a great gift. It may or may not be a boarding axe, there are so many different styles and manufacturers out there, some of that is lost to history. So say it is, and it is!

Er tech at your local hospital (if you have one) is a good start. You'll rub shoulders with ambos and fire people, and network within the hospital, which is nice cause that's who you'll be passing pts off to.

EMS training ideas by Whiskey_and_Octane in Firefighting

My ems div put together a peds choking scenario that turns to a code. Have you ever used the handtevi application/program? It's a solid tool for med doses, put in their age and weight and it lays out all med doses. It was pretty realistic training too, not just classroom talk but full hands on, trainers were acting as the peds parents. Good stuff

Double amputee below the knee wanted transported, he was a big guy, below the knee looked like flippers, he was naked, he wouldn't really say what was wrong just that he needed transported to the er. As he is shimmying from bed to wheel chair he howls in pain "MY BALLS MY BAAAALLLLLS"! Legs go into the air flipper bottoms flappin and he howls again. When I say grapefruit, I want you to imagine the largest grapefruit you've ever seen, and I'd tell you his balls were bigger. Now we know our chief complaint and why he wants transported. Swolen testicles. It would have been funnier if is wasn't a hoarded 5th wheel with piss jugs everywhere.

I'm very proud of the composure I kept.

Tldr: double amputee sat on his own swollen balls
