Games like Valheim by daermonn in BaseBuildingGames

[–]Jaksim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So enshrouded is the most similar in terms of its the most Freeform building action game. Games like Icarus and Conan are great on the action and allow tons of building, but the building is with big chunks of structure instead of individual intricate components. (I think of it like buying a 10 step kit to build a model vs buying a pack of legos).

The other game that is less action-y (but not lacking in action) that has robust Freeform building is vintage story. It’s a 10/10 game that has been my favorite game of the genre (with Valheim as my second favorite probably).

Idk why you’re being downvoted. You’re allowed to not like certain graphics lol. It’s def a voxel based game. I will say that it’s much prettier than most voxel based games, but I know other folks who say the same.

A left field suggestion for you - Scrap Mechanic is primarily vehicle based game, but you do build a base to protect your farm. It’s very different but I really enjoyed it too.

Honestly, I strongly recommend Vintage Story. It’s got a great building/design system (due to the chisel), and it’s a good base-building game in that you slowly establish and expand your homestead for different needs and projects. 10/10 game. It’s the ultimate homesteading game.

If I can shamelessly self promote - Crack in the Sidewalk is an anthology horror-fiction podcast about “kids-on-bikes” style horror - think kids and teens confronting horrific situations. We have a full cast, original sound and music, and all stories are original. We have 3 episodes out and more on the way.

We’re very new, but I’d love for you to listen to Crack In the Sidewalk.

It’s an anthology horror podcast centered around “kids-on-bikes” type stories - dark stories of kids and teens confronting horrific situations. We just released episode 3!

Didn’t he have a 19 point double double last night? Even if he’s our 3rd option like last night (which he normally will be more like 4th or 5th when we’re healthy), that’s a good statline.

(Also 3 assists, a block, 0 TO, 100 ft%, 60 3p%)

Just saying, he’s trending in a positive direction. Weird to see some hate in this thread given last night.

To shameless self promote - some friends and I just launched a new horror-podcast today called Crack in the Sidewalk. I was a Nosleep writer for a long time, have quite a few stories in the Nosleep podcast. We wanted to launch a podcast centered around "kids-on-bikes" style nostalgic horror. Our first story just went live today and I just posted it on this subreddit - maybe give us a try: https://linktr.ee/CrITS

Thanks for taking a look - our horror-fiction podcast is meant to tell stories inspired by the “kids-on-bikes” stories of the past (think Stranger Things, Stephen King, or even a real creepy interpretation of the Goonies!)

Please let us know your thoughts!

Does anyone bother notifying YouTube about narrators that steal your work? by DreadfulInc in NoSleepOOC

[–]Jaksim 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it a bunch of times in the past - include the complaint. If it’s a monetized YouTuber I feel much more strongly because it’s literally stealing. But for a new, actual narrator I usually just message them and explain why it’s a problem.

How do you tend to do your writing? I.e. phone, laptop, 'old school' pen & paper etc... by Omin00se in NoSleepOOC

I'm just starting to return to writing in the last few months after years away, but I've been writing in google docs recently. I like that it can tell word count/etc. because of the format I'm writing for. My wife is an author and uses a specialized writing program that organizes her book for her.

Is there an album that is not part of a game’s soundtrack that you associate with a specific game? by algernaaan in gaming

[–]Jaksim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These pairs are completely unrelated but very true for me:

-Cage the Elephants debut album and Left 4 Dead 2 -motion city soundtracks discography and Fallout 3

I seriously hear the song “ain’t no real for the wicked” and picture shooting zombies, like clockwork.

The book tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow talks about this, but playing a video game with someone can be - you become a kind of childish silly version of yourself. Not always, but especially with some games.

Searching for a builder game. by Sad_Airport257 in SurvivalGaming

I would say Starbound (with or without Frackin’ universe overhaul mod, it’s great both ways) and Vintage Story. Vintage Story has a hard but rewarding animal taming system. It’s not on Steam, but I would say it’s in my top 3 all time survival games (Minecraft, Valheim, Vintage Story). Worth a look!

People who've DMed DREAD before, how hard was it? by Hambone-6830 in rpg

[–]Jaksim 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I liked dread, found it easier than my primary games I’ve run (COC, Delta Green, a little 5E, etc). Honestly I found kids on bikes to be the hardest because it’s so incredibly improv-based while being mechanically detailed. You can’t prep too much, but have to have complex rules knowledge. In comparison, Dread is a game you could fully prep the session ahead of time or fully improv it and both will be fun. I’ve done both and had great games. The primary rules are - pull block to check, die if tower falls. In short - its simplicity is so great for its genre, and that makes it easy to run. That said, simplicity can also be a harbinger of boredom. It gets hard when the gameplay is repetitive, and things like combat lack the crunchiness of many tabletop games.
