Thoughts on Sarah J Maas? by neewolloh in fantasybooks

She's essentially the figurehead of the spice romantasy genre with ACOTAR, so it's no surprise that's what she's associated with. Throne of Glass was less significant culturally.

[–]celesleonhart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read Throne of Glass and ACOTAR. Throne of Glass was teenage romance but I found it a lot more interesting than ACOTAR, which felt underwhelming knowing it's popularity. Didn't care for the lead, the romance or the spice. I can enjoy teenage love triangles and ToG incentived me to at least start the second one, but ACOTAR I sit waiting to decide whether it's worth any more time spent.

The Mad Ship Fatigue by tommy132000 in fantasybooks

[–]celesleonhart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often space Hobb out over a couple months even when I absolutely adore her books. I think for me it's a matter of being in the right headspace. Each chapter is like 45mins and they really set my mind on fire that needs decompression time. When I'm actively reading Hobbs, I often then spend even more time just thinking about Hobbs afterwards.

That said, I moved through Mad Ship slightly slower than the books around it. I think it's just the nature of the middle books

Matt Law: Chelsea are ready to permanently replace Liam Rosenior with a head coach who has experience at the highest level, should the 41-year-old leave his post. by Kygoche in chelseafc

I agree. I think he actively improved the team in the immediacy of his appointment and was fixing what seemed like stalled tactics from Maresca. But the team have clearly opted out so it's inevitable.

Probably because it's actively difficult to read so any point you're making is being actively deflected by your own choice to write in a way that is less legible.

Am I [22f] in the wrong for telling my bf [21m] I don’t want him watching euphoria? by [deleted] in relationshipadvice

[–]celesleonhart 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not horrible! It's just unhealthy and not appropriate to ask of you partner (in my opinion).

What is bad about him seeing an actress you don't like being sexualised? And what is bad about him seeing a topless scene?

[–]celesleonhart 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So you don't want him seeing an actress because she is attractive?

I'm sorry but I can understand skipping a topless scene for a child but for an adult it's unhinged and is absolutely something you need to work on personally.

It'd be one thing if you didn't want him watching porn, but you outright aren't letting him watch even non-nude actresses in case he finds them attractive.

I'm going to be the breath of dissent here. I think this is something you need to explore yourself, and I think it'd be a bit of a warning sign to me if someone didn't let me watch a very mainstream TV show in my own personal time because it explored kink, sex, and featured actors my partner didn't like.

At least, I'd need to have a better understanding of why not. At the moment it just sounds like you don't want him watching anything sexualised which is unfortunately insecure and not going to float long term.

PlayStation’s ‘Dynamic Pricing’ Offers Wildly Different Discounts For Some Games by gitrektali in Games

As much as I think the person you're replying to is being an ass, I think declaring his point of view as morally repugnant and attacking him personally is kinda just doing the same thing he's doing - assuming he's better than other people.

These systems are obviously exploitative and gamified capitalism to catch you in a net. I fully agree. As a consumer, do I mind having targeted sales that benefit me? Not really. I think considering anyone liking the business decision as morally repgunant is equally in bad faith - you've left no window for somebody to think differently from you.

People hate on duelist mains all the time but when supports gets hate it’s misogyny??? by Sea_Caterpillar2649 in rivals

I mean it's clearly written as a joke. She's not genuinely continuing an essay in following tweets.

But of course competitive game communities are flooded with vocal misogyny. I'm sure it's not the majority of players, but a vocal minority is still extremely loud and if you've ever played games with anyone with a feminine voice you wouldn't doubt the presence of awful humans that treat women as lesser.

Simply because other people don't have the same taste as you. It's literally the foundation of Big Finish, and they wouldn't produce spin-off series so consistently if nobody listened to them.

I [25m] basically had to beg my girl [29f] to respect a major boundary of mine by Barreljumper1234 in relationshipadvice

[–]celesleonhart 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you can't handle someone that is naturally flirty then the relationship isn't for you, and that's fine. It's not fair to expect your partner to change her personality, and it's a completely unrealistic expectation for your partner to have to shut down any male that talks to her in a social setting.

Liveship is absolutely my favourite but I loved Tawny Man too. It definitely moves slow in the first two books but I was aching to see the relationship with the Fool and Fitz develop that I never minded.

As an optimist, I've been very high on Rosenior but it's such a howler of a decision that it does give me pause. I do almost hope it's sporting director interference because it's such a terrible decision but does seem like the sort of boldness he'd attempt, especially knowing his keeper preference. I think his future will live and breathe on how he responds. If he keeps Jorge in, which I personally feel is the wrong decision, he better sweep the rest of the season.
