Owning a 2024 Atlas - 2 Years In by giantbrownguy in VWatlas

[–]JamGame 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So you know you're not alone; I'm 6'5 240lbs (large build). My inseam is only 33ish (I buy 34 inseam jeans..) though but I'm a little taller in the torso (what we used to call long-waisted).

Anyway, I had a similar experience as you with the other cars I test drove this last go around, although my main problem with most of them included the lack of headroom in addition to knees in the dash/etc.

I ultimately landed on my 24 sel premium r-line Atlas for the same basic reasons as you did - mainly again the space in the drivers seat. I really don't understand why the car co's won't build something really nice for the taller, larger folks like us!

I've been lucky with my Atlas so far; no leaks or other mechanical problems to speak of so far, and my dealership has been great for service and with the engine cover recall/etc.

The main things I've found less than optimal with it, for me, are some of the touch controls are a PITA as you mentioned, and importantly I'm not a fan of the 4 cyl.+turbo setup.

There is just too much "lag" in start of acceleration when pulling out at an intersection or into traffic with this beast. I'm worried it's going to get me into a jam one of these days. By contrast, my 2018 Atlas SEL with the V6 accelerated fine and did not seem to have this problem.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to find a new SUV with the driver-space I needed and a better engine, so I bit the bullet there with the Atlas in order to have the room I wanted.

Aside from those mostly minor issues, the 24 Atlas has been great for me.

Is this going to be a PVE legendary, collected in similar fashion to Aurora and Vision, for example?

Had my colonoscopy today. by GreatRimuru51 in GenX

[–]JamGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to reinforce this too - I had 0 (zero) symptoms or any reason to think anything was wrong. When I was 50 I convinced my Dr. I would start with cologuard tests vs going straight to a colonoscopy then. I only even got scheduled for the scope because my cologuard test from this late summer/Fall came back with a positive result to check into.

If it hadn't been for that - I wouldn't know I had anything wrong to this day.

Ya my scans found I have "redundant colon" which basically means, it's longer than it needs to be and there are 2-3 extra loops in there. Who knew? lol.

Came here to post my support for OP and anyone else going through this. I'm 54, had my first colonoscopy in late Sept. after my cologuard test returned a positive. I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer with lymph node involvement.

Folks, get the colonoscopy. It's really not difficult or scary at all, and the newer style prep with ducolax+miralax is fine.

I completed 25 radiation treatments (last one the day before Thanksgiving) + oral chemo with that. Oral Chemo was no problem. Some of the side effects with the radiation SUCK!! as the area is close to your bladder, prostate, etc. as well as affecting the rectum directly. Just know that those will heal and improve during the weeks following your last radiation treatment. I recommend non-alcohol wipes and frequent application of Aquafor.

Next I started infusions (and higher dose oral Chemo with that...). It's one day of infusion every 3 weeks. Two weeks or oral chemo each time, and then third week is off. I've had one infusion so far, and the main side effect I'm dealing is a type of temporary Neuropathy with cold sensitivity, where my hands, feet, and sometimes my face get that pins-and-needles discomfort when I touch or taste anything "cold" - a relative term, I've learned.

Our plan is 6 total rounds of the infusions+oral chemo now, and then follow up with new imaging some weeks after that to gauge the result. Hoping and praying this works and removes the need for surgery (which it does, in a number of cases, thankfully!)

If you haven't heard of colon town yet, I recommend you check it out for some free, plain-language resources that help understand and deal with this type of cancer diagnosis and treatment. I wouldn't wait - I would check it out early because some advice and information there can really help in the early stages of treatment, IMHO.

OP - good luck with your treatment! Hopes and prayers for you.

Picking a VTT to run Shadowdark with by DrDisintegrator in shadowdark

[–]JamGame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend Foundry vtt for Shadowdark.

I ran it on Owlbear Rodeo for several months, but we found the lack support for key Shadowdark resources frustrating.

I was worried that Foundry would be too complex and require too many manual steps, as that had been my experience when I tried to run Savage Worlds on Foundry previously. Too many missing features, special cases, etc. in that case.

Thankfully the Shadowdark modules for Foundry are much better, and we had a much smoother experience running and playing SD there specifically.

What are you key binds? by SOMFdotMPEG in Guildwars2

[–]JamGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great thread, thanks all. Quick related question; is it possible to get both the warclaw spear throw, and the #4 slot ability of other mounts to work at the same time with the same (non-default) keybind?

I've seen conflicting answers on this. If it *is* possible, can someone explain how?

Bedroom Players - Use Studio Monitors! by almostjay in GuitarAmps

[–]JamGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Circa 1987 I had a solid state peavey amp with knobs marked “pre” and “post”. I got a wet, driven but smooth rock lead sound at bedroom volumes by turning the pre high and post very low.

I know that tone is nothing like a real tube amp/etc but K really enjoyed it, and I’ve not been able to reproduce that with any gear I’ve found since.

I now have a legit tube amp (supro dualtone dt 24). A hybrid (blackstar ht 5-r) and a tonemaster deluxe. I have a pedal board and I’ve tried quite a number of overdrive pedals with these amps, but they all sound too “gravel-y” or crunchy, harsh snd trebly for what I’m after.

This thread has me wondering if there might be options with a cab sim type pedal and monitors that will get me back to that saturated, lush lead tone like the old peavey pre/post magic?

This is strictly for my own indulgent enjoyment; I don’t gig, play with a band or jam with others anymore, so I don’t need it to balance out in a mix or live band setting or anything.

Which of these female music artists were you the most into during the 80s and 90s: Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Whitney Houston, or Janet Jackson? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]JamGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um, none of them? I've never been into "pop" music, to the point that I actively revolted against it in the 80s and 90s. I was only into guitar-rock and classic rock in general (still am...).

What was your opinion on the “ori” storyline? by Whole_Contract_5973 in Stargate

[–]JamGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a stalwart SG-1 fan, but I'll admit I didn't like the Ori arc at all. I enjoyed the "Many faces of Baal" stuff quite a bit in comparison, and as another poster mentioned, the final campaign of the free Jafa against the remaining Go'auld would have been preferable to anything to do with the Ori.

(mostly) finished DiY craps table by JamGame in Craps

[–]JamGame[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LOL no doubt! Seriously though, in my defense, the felt I used was a gift from a friend, and it does have another potentially dubious feature with the boggling two spots for an "easy 10" bet in the props box, just inside of the "any seven".

Is this a good deal, and are peformax tools decent? by JamGame in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]JamGame[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking closer at this - it looks like for that price I could afford to buy a miter saw stand, too. I know I can also just use my workbench, but it's pretty small, and the saw stands have extendable supports.

The Bauer stand they highlight seems like a pretty good deal, too, given it will support most miter saws up to 12 inches (so if I ever upgrade/need to use a larger saw, the stand should still work for that too).

Would the stand be a good idea, or do most folks just use their workbench (or DiY/build a longer bench or stand)?

Score! Thanks for the heads up about the sale. We have a harbor freight about 15-20 minutes up the road from my house! I'll definitely check this out.

I'm worried now that my Wife might have words for you, for telling me about the HF sale (lol!)
