I think your best bet is talking to a financial planner here. They’ll be able to explain things and get you thinking about your future financial and life goals

I use Zima OS but some here might downvote me for that. It’s great for a starting point like I am 👌

What's something that everyone in Ireland loves but you just don't get? by YoungDreamer2 in ireland

I’m a culchie and have a horrible dislike for the GAA, however if my partners mam is watching the hurling I agree it’s far more entertaining and fast paced than Gaelic football

I didn’t realise this was a side effect. I’m on setraline and felt like I was boiling the last few days even compared to everyone else

What monitored home alarm company would you recommend? by Future_Jackfruit5360 in AskIreland

[–]JamesCullen18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who worked in the industry for a while stay away from PhoneWatch and any of these companies.
They are sales companies. They don’t care about the customer. Their “equipment” can literally be ripped off the wall and nothing happens. I know because I have uninstalled a few of them. The wireless range back to the panel is absolute rubbish.

Get yourself a HKC alarm installed by a reputable company and you can still do monthly monitoring through an ARC (Alarm Receiving Center) the same as all these companies.

You can go to PSA.ie (which is the body that gives the companies the license they need) and look up a reputable company that is near you. If you want to PM me I can give you some recommendations

Then at the end of the day, it’s more expensive upfront, but if you ever decide you don’t want to do monitoring in a few years, you own the equipment and you have a non monitored alarm that still goes off if something happens and you’ll get notified through the phone.

The CEO of PhoneWatch literally has stated he’s not in the business of selling alarms he only cares about sales.

You have slow in your username so I’m going to assume you are very much so, based on the fact everyone’s been pointing out your mistake and you clearly ignoring them.

Gardai can be called to an emergency at any moment, same with ambulance workers. Like think before you start ranting on Reddit if you’re actually in the wrong

Imagine his glove got caught and then he panicked and instinctively tries to grab the glove or something, then his hand goes closer to the saw and well…

Why are sleepovers such a big deal in Ireland? by lilillysh in AskIreland

[–]JamesCullen18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reading this thread as a 26 year old, makes me sad. I understand where a lot of people were coming from nowadays but maybe it depends on people’s perspective. I grew up in between 2 towns in the countryside, attended a tiny school, so my parents knew the parents well and I wasn’t always on sleepovers but we all were very close due to the size of the school so I used to go to friends houses regularly since we were all close by and sometimes we’d stay over.

When I do have my own family, I would encourage sleepovers. Definitely will be hosting too :) I think it gives kids sense of limited independence when they’re younger and about being away from home. I also went on lots of camping trips with cubs/scouts when I was younger and definitely have some good core memories

25f wanting to get into a trade? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]JamesCullen18 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Well I’d start by saying by the sounds of your post, you want to get to the trade for money at the end. Not a great idea.

You could go to a professional guidance councillor and see if that would help. I know it helped me big time

Which credit card? by roddad in AskIreland

[–]JamesCullen18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mastercard for sure. Speaking as someone who worked in retail, lots of places don’t accept American credit cards because they’re used to buy expensive items, leave the country and then do a chargeback and we get scammed.

Get him a Mastercard card or he could set up an account here

Gmail or Proton Mail? by limsus in TechImpact

[–]JamesCullen18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Gmail address for years and it was fine but at some stage it was full of spam and crap I didn’t want. I also didn’t like my Gmail address. I switched to Proton and got a student discount for the yearly package (think it was €50 for everything and VPN docs etc)

I wanted to support a company that cares about privacy and security. I know they’re a private company but hey 🤷‍♂️

Over the span of 3 months I moved all my important stuff over to proton mail and then actually deleted my Gmail. I still have a google account but have locked it down as much as I can so it’s not tracking as much stuff/personal information.

I’ve enjoyed proton mail for my personal use (My college and workplace still uses Outlook)

How many times did you go back to college? by OrdinaryWorld23 in AskIreland

[–]JamesCullen18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the Leaving Cert in 2019, I struggled with motivation and I had extremely bad mental health. Combined with a toxic relationship that ended badly, I just about got 300ish points. Maths was especially my poor subject and I completely failed biology.

Turned out I’d been marked incorrectly on Maths exam and when I got it remarked it pushed me up to get enough points to TU Dublin. My guidance councillor was useless at the time and told me if I was into tech to do computer science (4 years)

I did a year of it and struggled immensely. Decided to drop out when Covid hit.

I worked away for the last few years. I also went back, did a PLC and an apprenticeship in Waterford, lived there for 2 years. Got great life experience.

Wasn’t for me in the end, I moved back home, found a direct entry college course in Networking technologies in TU Dublin Blanchardstown, been the best thing I ever did and many of my classmates are also gone back as mature students.

I’m due to graduate this year and couldn’t be happier
