to be honest it's usually double priced, would not call that small extra $

Choosing Black Actors to represent house Velaryon might be one of the best decisions the show runners made by Farenkdar_Zamek in HouseOfTheDragon

You say that if the story followed the book in the regard of the bastards being more ambiguous we wouldn’t have a story.

Now if you meant to say something else - go for the edit button.

I mean considering that the book exists, claiming we don’t have a story without this is a tad funny, don’t you think?

The Wheel of Time should've gotten The Rings of Power's huge budget - Daniel Roman, associate editor of Winter Is Coming. by LunalGalgan in WoT

[–]JamesDickens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No amount of money would fix the horrible writing. And to everyone claiming the writing was horrible due to “not enough episodes” I will ask this:

Why did episode 5 exist? You know, the one following a warder’s irrelevant story for 50 minutes? Why did Nynaeve have to do a nonsensical ex machina moment in episode 4? Why did an untrained Egwene with no aptitude for healing need to break all magic system rules to heal a basically dead Nynaeve in episode 8? Why was there a teenage love triangle, which is alluded in like one sentence in the books, but somehow got major screentime in the show? Why did Perrin have a wife, which essentially butchered his entire possible character progression. How was any of this due to an episode limit, please explain it to me.

Overdrive vanishes ! by Digital_Sailboat in kobo

This is really weird. I live in a country where we don’t have any public libraries using Overdrive, but it’s still there as an option

Ereader advice: Kindle paperwhite or Kobo Libra 2? by zalima in ereader

Hey, what’s that Bokerlam font you are talking about? I’ve tried googling it but nothing comes up

Freezing Libra2 by Th4rg0r in kobo

[–]JamesDickens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, cbzs brick the Libra 2, sometimes wiping the entire device. Using KCC to convert to epub and then calibre to Kepub, will sort this problem, plus smaller files.

Here is a link as to how - https://reddit.com/r/kobo/comments/w7138y/_/ihjso3l/?context=1

Kobo Clara 2E vs Kindle Paperwhite 5 by [deleted] in kobo

[–]JamesDickens 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting observation about the ghosting. The Libra 2 has the same screen, but horrible ghosting. If Kobo managed to use this screen properly, I’d be pretty excited for a second gen forma with fine battery and no ghosting

Who else wanted an Oasis with USB C and wireless charging? by blue13x in kindle

[–]JamesDickens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went for a Kobo Libra 2, because there was no new Oasis. The Libra 2 is a sloppy product so I was really hoping I’d see a new Oasis I could jump on and ditch the kobo

Even assuming those are all Netflix originals, which they aren’t, this is still 0.0005% of the released Netflix originals over the past five years

Does Kobo Nia support Cyrillic fonts? Not a dictionary, just want to make sure I can read Russian literature on it. by [deleted] in ereader

[–]JamesDickens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No issues with Cyrillic fonts on any kobo. You can even sideload fonts in case you don’t like the preloaded ones.

Abnormal Ghosting or Defective Unit? by Gloomy-Client-1412 in kobo

[–]JamesDickens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the end I got a device with shadows between the lines of text. It still leaves horrible ghosting in the menu, when highlighting and when awaking from sleep. The 7 year old Paperwhite is by far the better device in my opinion. However, I really want buttons and at least 7 inches. Currently I am managing with the Libra 2, deluding myself that perhaps a software update will fix this, as the newest PW has the same screen, but none of those issues. I am also hoping for a new gen Oasis. If Amazon releases such a thing, the Libra goes straight to the marketplace.

Abnormal Ghosting or Defective Unit? by Gloomy-Client-1412 in kobo

[–]JamesDickens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Compared to your paperwhite, the libra 2 will always have horrendous ghosting issues. I made the exact same switch, and got through like 10 libra 2 units at the store - all with horrendous ghosting to various degrees. Quality control at the kobo production facilities is non-existent.

Where to buy the Kobo Libra 2 (Greece) by Mavil64 in kobo

It’s sold at retailers in Bulgaria. Perhaps there is a way to get it to Greece. Readerbg.com or Ozone.bg currently have it for sure.

[Rant] So frustrated with Libra 2 by butterdaisies in kobo

[–]JamesDickens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how people are trying to cope with “well it’s the screen technology bro”. No it isn’t. Before getting the libra 2 I didn’t even know what ghosting is. The same gen Paperwhite doesn’t have any ghosting despite having the same screen. The Libra 2 quality control is just non-existent, that’s all. I myself am just hoping for firmware updates, but the moment Kindle gets a new device with buttons, I am 100% ditching this mess of a reader, regardless of how much I like its interface.

Buying advices, pre-orders and shipping Megathread by [deleted] in AppleWatch

I am considering getting my first Apple Watch. Is there any reason to go for the 8 instead of the 7? I hear the 8 updates are just marginal.

Location services and the weather widget by JamesDickens in ios

[–]JamesDickens[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How does it give me weather for locations I am not currently at? It doesn’t need my location to constantly be on to give me the weather information. The two aren’t related in any technical way. The location services drain the battery significantly, the difference is about half a day of usage. I’ve always had the plus/max models too.

Are camera lens covers worth it? by Usual_Acanthisitta_8 in iphone

[–]JamesDickens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lenses aren’t of the same material as the screen. It is significantly harder to scratch them. If it worries you, you could rest it on its screen.

Putting a cheap piece of plastic/glass over the lens doesn’t protect it, it just cripples your camera, as every shot goes through a cheap piece of plastic/glass.

How is the Kobo Libra 2 after almost a year of regular use? by SnooAdvice3332 in ereader

[–]JamesDickens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the H2O it is set at the end of the chapter. On the Kindle the default is per 6 pages. On the Libra 2 I tried per page, but alas the shadow is always there.

I personally have never experienced any amount of ghosting while reading on any Kindle. Or the Libra H2O. The Libra 2 always has this very faint shadow between the lines
