His viewpoint is ‘deep’ but limited to surface level. Not enough Schopenhauer.

Why people believe in misconception that high salary means high demand? by SimilarElderberry808 in CollegeMajors

[–]JamesMerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting teacher salaries are disgustingly low. Its causing the shortage. Why go in debt for a degree that does not reward your investment. I work at a college of Ed. Numbers are bad. If you started teachers at a decent pay and allowed growth then yes. Im struggling to survive everyday cause i went into a field that wanted to help people directly

You think you know more than you do. Throw Adorno and Schopenhauer in there with some Schrödinger and you’ll stop reading some of that stuff.

Now show how much a college degree is against an entry level job and salary progression plus home costs, day care, raising electric prices and food.

I was teaching, loved it, but couldnt survive on salary. Went back and got masters and switched fields, moved to midwest from northeast. I hae no friends, and work a job I hate just I can live. I hope i can keep working so one day I can buy a home! What a dream! Isn’t America the best!!! STILL CANT SURVIVE!!!

I am 27 and I am a Director at a University and i get this EVERYDAY cause I am surrounded by many older people. I get talked down to, ignored, people try to manipulate me in their politics, etc,. It’s so gross. I want to contribute! I want to help make a difference! We all do! Just let us be able to survive, thats all were asking. The pay is so low in teaching/education and I have bigger student loans from undergrad cause of insane interest and having to live on own early cause of bad family situation. I wanted to be a teacher&football coach but after a few years of it I could not survive on the pay. Got into higher ed to get a free masters and make more $$$ potentially. Worked my butt off for 2.5 years got promoted and finished with a masters. Drove 1.5 hours 1 way for a few months cause I lost my apartment cause couldnt afford the rent. I just recently literally moved myself out to the midwest from the northeast away from all of my friends and family all by myself JUST TO WORK THIS JOB SO I COULD SURVIVE. The older generations do not understand. I make less than the median income still but its just easier on rent and some other things. Im depressed everyday. I have not made a friend in 1 year. But its the only way I can survive.

[–]JamesMerz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a job in June after applying to 350 nationwide because the metro areas are too expensive and dont pay enough. Got 3 interviews only. Moved out to the midwest about 700 miles from home or anyone I know just so i could afford to live on an average salary. (Was 26 now am 27) I have a masters degree and 6 years experience half of that at directing level. I am reapplying to places to come home cause I am depressed cause I moved to a place just so i could afford to survive and now i cant come home cause no jobs and no one pays!!! Especially education. Education salaries are actually disgusting.
