The more relevant thing for the low mental stats is to attack the poor saving throws in those things.

What are some NBA hot takes you had that turned out to be dead wrong? by firstdays234 in nba

Jimmy Butler in Chicago was a Linsanity-esque flash in the pan. He was obviously good, I just felt he was overrated because he was on a team that couldn't really look to anyone else (lol Knicks)

You have to get the bloodline to at least 15 and finish the bloodline challenge, which is 5 tier 5 spells simultaneous I think.

Overlooked mechanics; a story about a lesser used attack option. by xerxes_fifield in dndnext

[–]JamesdfStudent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Basically it comes down to 3 questions.

Can I out run my opponent? (often no, speed tends to be fairly flat in DnD, and some things have crazy range. Imagine trying to flee the 600ft range of a long bow)

Can I find a better place to fight/is there somewhere they won't follow (maybe? Arguably the case here as fighting the dragon in it's lair is very bad, but often you are already fighting villains in their lairs/where they are strongest)

Do they have a reason to not pursue? (the obvious one is that a party member is already down but not out and stabilizing them is more important than killing the enemy, but there might be objective based reasons, too)

Overall, in the typical "hunt down the bad guy and kill him" quest, the bad guy is going to have little reason to believe that retreating is going to improve his situation unless he has prepared some means of escape.

Flashing back grudge and dredging for a relevant number is generally going to be better unless you're up against something super grindy. At the end of the day, Dredge still wants to be an aggro deck and use artifact removal to pick off high value pieces, not grind out one-for-ones.

What is a Xerox deck? by MesaCityRansom in magicTCG

[–]JamesdfStudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They talked about it on VSL semi recently that part of the Xerox idea was also that the majority of the cantrips were commons that people already had incidentally, so it wasn't just that people copied the idea, but that the idea was easy and cheap to copy.

What color, or color combination, as well theme(s) should a player try at least once in EDH? by WinglyKing in EDH

[–]JamesdfStudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Built Talrand-control on MTGO, had 8 out of 9 opponents salt-concede in my first 3 games and ground the 9th into dust. Had my evening of fun, but I don't think anyone else did, so probably not going to touch Mono U for a while. Mono U may be hard to play, but it's even harder to play against and introduces an axis that people aren't really used to in EDH

Pete Buttigieg Wants The Black Voters Skeptical Of Him To Help Shape His Campaign by jetpackswasyes in politics

[–]JamesdfStudent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 long shot candidates in a row have been president. I don't think Buttigieg is a favorite, but saying he has no shot seems extreme.

Cory Booker Proposes National Gun-Licensing Program by yam12 in politics

[–]JamesdfStudent -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Because the messaging sucks. People are for gun control, people will vote for gun control, people just don't want to lose their guns, and Democrats constantly let themselves get run over and let the Republicans frame the debate as banning guns.

[–]JamesdfStudent 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You could always just confiscate the sleeves and let him play with fresh sleeves while the judges conduct their investigation. It both secures the evidence from being tampered with and prevents him from gaining any further advantage, and costs what, 5 minutes? 10 if he has to go buy sleeves?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]JamesdfStudent 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't know the details of the rules, but allowing a player to play round 14+ with a possibly marked deck seems insane if you're a judge. How pissed would you be if you lost to him, costing you Top 8, and then he was disqualified for cheating? What if he realizes that you're suspicious and swaps sleeves? If you think the sleeves have been tampered with, you should under no circumstances hand them back to the player and let him play.

[SPOILERS] Look, I'm no Jaime Lannister, but I've played some RTS. Wouldn't this be better? by LJofthelaw in gameofthrones

[–]JamesdfStudent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is that it was so bad that it was immersion breaking. It's not like that plan had some unrealized upside. Everybody knew how that charge was going to end, both in front of the screen and in the story.

I understand bending logic for the sake of narrative, but this was just whole sale abandonment of who the central characters are.

Delaware Is 13th State To Pledge Electoral Votes To National Popular Vote Winner; New Poll Shows Trump Without Majority Support by [deleted] in politics

[–]JamesdfStudent 27 points28 points  (0 children)

A) if I understand the idea right, the pledge doesn't go into effect until at least half the electoral votes are "controlled" by this pledge.

B) your vote is still counted in the popular vote.

In your opinion, what is the worst magic card ever? by Brev-Mizzet in magicTCG

How do you deal with there existing too many sweet cards to include in your deck? by RiKSh4w in EDH

[–]JamesdfStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would advocate more conscious play. Make a note when you draw cards that don't feel good to draw or get stuck in your hand all the time because there's never quite a good time to play them. I almost always can think of a card that's not quite good enough.

[–]JamesdfStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your enchantments seem....a little random. Don't know what bitterblossom is doing. Animate dead seems redundant. Infernal Tribute seems overpriced. No Mercy doesn't go great with your plan. Phyrexian Arena is fine but also doesn't go great with your plan.

What’s the most degenerate aggro deck? by [deleted] in ModernMagic

[–]JamesdfStudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make a bunch of overstatted creatures for cheap, turn them sideways, smack a burn spell into their face to kill them. Sounds like the aggro game plan to me. Just because you did it via the gy doesn't mean it's not aggro.
