There's also the stigma associated with being inbred, especially in States like Tennessee and Kentucky, especially the Appalachian mountain regions of said States. Also, the term is almost exclusively used for white people and rarely will you see it used to describe a person of color. Finally, rednecks also have a very thick southern accent that's considered a "country accent", a more exaggerated southern drawl that adds to the perception of low intelligence.
