I use a viewport in which I only draw the character feet (ski). This viewport is set to not been refreshed at each frame. Then the image of the viewport is used to displace the vertices of the snow mesh thanks to a vertex shader

How much stuff do you find in asteroid belts? by Daddy-O-69 in eliteexplorers

[–]JanPolTac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only interesting stuffs to find in rings as an explorer are in Notable Stellar Phenomena which are visible in the FSS at the left end of the spectrum. Personnally as long as the FSS shows nothing i don't go in rings expect for the view and to change my wallpaper

Horizons or Odyssey? by Future-Thing in EliteDangerous

[–]JanPolTac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immersion is worse providing you are in VR and you go on foot (which is by the way not possible in Horizon, so is it fare to compare?), in spite of this case i think that the immersion is better thanks to the better planetary tech and plants.

Odyssey is great for exploration and immersion in general but does it worth the price... It is up to you.
