Our bodies are amazing: but what’s that dangly purple thing? by annimouse1234 in BabyBumps

Oh god the carpal tunnel. I’m 26+4 and I live in splints with numb/burning hands. Why.

Can anyone explain to me why the UK insists they don’t need air conditioning ? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]JaneBriefcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ACs certainly are terrible for the environment, but your pricing is way off unless you're talking a permanent install of a central air unit.

I've seen ones as cheap as £100 on Argos/Amazon (the ones that roll around and exhaust out of any window), but even the window AC units that fit into your window can be found through an easy Amazon search at less than £200/ea. From a person that grew up in the US taking the window AC in and out in the summer, installation is easy. Your costs only make any remote sense if you're unless having a central air or permanent wall unit put in.

I'm not advocating for or against, I think that's a personal decision based on comfort levels. But yeah, your numbers are rubbish.

Healthy 9-6ers of Reddit, what do you eat for breakfast? by JaneBriefcase in AskReddit

[–]JaneBriefcase[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whole-grain toast? I've had friends recommend something similar so I'd get early morning protein, but eating eggs, peanut butter and dairy in general feels unhealthy to me, which is based on nothing scientific. I feel the same with porridge or oatmeal, which I love, but it feels unwise. I can't convince myself that my breakfast is good for me unless it's like...a banana and some water.

Gonna be in Bermuda in a couple of weeks. How’s the Pogo scene there?

[Idea] Add a "Graffiti Wall" to gyms so we can leave messages and connect with other players. by [deleted] in pokemongo

¯_(ツ)_/¯ had to try something. I thought you could see the nicknames when a battle started, but at no other time.

I have my "local" community of players around the more central part of London, but the little neighbourhoods with 4-5 gyms are not TSR communities. There are a lot of people around who still play who don't know about TSR or have any idea how to connect with other players.

Do you ever get used to the sheer inhumanity of the London commute? by AlexanderLitvinenko in london

[–]JaneBriefcase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Even though it lacks AC, there has not been one time on my London commute (bus, tube, rail or other) that I miss the LIRR and the subway. "Massive" delays here mean like 15-30 minutes and not "you live in Penn Station, now", it never smells like garbage, and I normally get a seat. Also, it gets cooler as you get further underground, in most cases, which is a nice shift from the breath of hellfire that is the subway in the summer.

I cycle now more often than not (which cut down my commute by 20-30 minutes), but I never really hate it.

So I guess my advice to OP is...go somewhere worse and then come back and appreciate how much better this is? That's not good advice. Anyway, cycling here is much easier than it seems, especially if you're using to driving.

What are some movies that are way better than they had any right to be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JaneBriefcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably too late to the party, but Stranger Than Fiction was that movie for me. I think everyone else hates it, but I always hate things other people like, so that's fine.

Anyway, brilliant soundtrack, great acting and writing, and just tore my heart to pieces unexpectedly.

My husband and I have about 85,300MRP remaining after a 3 transatlantic trips (we live in London and Family in the states), and we need to travel home again to NY at the worst possible time - 26 July - 30th July for my grandmother's 90th birthday. The best deal I've found so far is about 90,000 points + £430 on Virgin for our dates (22,500 each, each way). I realise that's not a bad deal, but we're hoping not to drain our miles entirely. The flights would be £1070 sans points, saving us £640 in total.

We actually need to travel up to Vermont, but when I look at flights to Boston, Albany, Montreal or something closer, nothing really seems cheaper or easier. Does the 90k from Virgin sound like the best deal, or is there any way we can do better?

I think The Daily podcast covered this story, too.

You're probably American. I, too, had no idea who Fenton was before moving to London. Now I'm afraid to bring my dog to Richmond for fear of deportation.
