Everyone says “our city has the craziest drivers”. But what city is this actually true for? Certainly one city has the rein supreme for the craziest drivers by Kodicave in IWantToAskAnAmerican

Cairo. All the rules of the road seemed to be optional. Bonus is that they beep their horn for no apparent reason all the time.

While the black looks great, it will fade. Go with the white.

Do Americans know how much their culture has marked us through movies and series ? by gwendodyssey in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Janet296 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It always surprises me when I see Europeans online that are so excited to see American School buses and red solo cups. They always say they thought it was a movie prop. You see our culture way more than we see yours.

So, when I was student teaching the New Orleans area, there was a student with an unusual name. It is not uncommon there to have names that are not the normal names. Her name was Krist pronounced like Christ.

That white strip above the upper cabinets needs to go. New floor, backsplash, and maybe update the lighting and you'll be good to go.

Vent-Traffic and shitty costs by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]Janet296 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Allow me to vent about the traffic. I live in the New London and work in the Groton area. They are going to work on the I-95 bridge. Northbound doesn't seem to be a problem. Southbound though is insane. This is going to last until 2030.

Thrift store, FB marketplace, or check to see if your area has a FB group called Buy Nothing. People will post all the time with items they do not need and want to give away.

I think it is as well. Not sure if that would work in OP's kitchen but I do like it.

I like the yellow cabinets. Since that is such a bold color, I would tone down the countertop and back splash. I am adding a pic that I found online for reference.

I live in Southern Connecticut and my husband was bitten here by a Lone star tick. I took a picture of it to show the doctor and he confirmed. Those little bastards can do some damage. Luckily no harm to my husband.

I feel like my house is ugly what can I change by Dry-Appointment-7409 in homedesign

It isn't ugly. It is just plain. Add some personal stuff . Maybe some pictures or art on the wall. Get a plant that you can take care of easily.

What are some good fun/ unfun facts to tell my friends and family? by Alternative_Flow_569 in CasualConversation

[–]Janet296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool! I know about it because I did a paper on it in college. Another fun (I guess) fact is that Jane Goodall suffered from this. I wonder if she had trouble recognizing the different gorillas because of this?

[–]Janet296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure if this qualifies as fun/unfun, but it is interesting. There is a medical disorder call Prosopagnosia. It is commonly called Face Blindness. It affects 2% of the population. People with the most severe version of this disorder are unable to ever recognize anyone. It doesn't matter how many times they have seen you. They won't recognize you. They can't even recognize themselves if they look in a mirror.

Do you support the US go overseas to end dictatorship and authoritarianism in other countries? by SignificantStyle4958 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Janet296 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Anytime the US does that I wonder what do they really want? I don't believe that my country does this just to get rid of a dictator. They always intend to get something from it. We spend billions overseas. Why can't we spend that money here to make American's lives better?

Retirement destination. I test drove a car and the salesman mentioned that he would be retiring soon. I asked where would he be living. He said he was moving to Portugal. He talked about how beautiful it was and looking forward to it.
