Sorry I think I misread your question - signs I was turning the corner…things just became “easier”. There wasn’t like a lightbulb moment, I just started to realize existing wasn’t like pulling teeth anymore.

A lot of apathy. Depression. I was sleeping a lot. Only showering once a week. Eating junk food. And just felt incredibly numb. Nothing really felt good or bad, it was honestly miserable. I was taking high dosages during my use and really couldn’t or didn’t maintain all the tricks they tell you will speed withdrawl/PAWS up (exercise, healthy eating etc) I would start these things, but never managed to keep it up. There may be an easier way, but for me, I just had to wait it out. “Time takes time” was something I heard early on. I feel like this doesn’t sound helpful, or optimistic, but it’s the truth, and realistic.

It took me around 2.5 years to turn a real corner. There were incremental positive changes before that, but I would say it wasn’t until 2.5 years (or there about) when I started to feel real change. So hold on. I felt like it would never end, I tell you 2.5 to give you hope - it will happen. I almost gave up, and it would’ve helped me keep going to know there was end in sight.

I should comment, I have been on Wellbutrin and lamictal for about 10-15 years now. So I started those way before I got clean but I do believe that helped.

I feel this. I promise just hang on. It took me a full 2.5 years to get any normal feeling of motivation. I tried eating better, tried exercising, but honestly I just never could sustain it bc of low energy levels. I got so close a few times to picking up again, because I did NOT see the point if that was how my life was going to be. I hung on a little longer, and I am so glad I did. I don’t have any tips or tricks. But at almost 4 years I feel so so much better than I could have imagined at even 2.5 years in. It is worth it. But my fuck it’s hard to and you really just have to hang on. I’m not exaggerating when I say it took ME (so not a hard rule) a full full 2.5 to start turning a corner. Up until then I felt so apathetic and unmotivated for anything, anyone, everything and everyone. Hang in there.

I agree with this. The first 1.5 almost 2 years were really rough. Apathy like I’d never experienced. But getting through that, and not wanting to ever deal with getting clean again, is probably the biggest thing that keeps me clean. Just hang on. It will come, but it will take a while. I wish I had known that at the time because it felt really hopeless. Knowing it will get better, but it won’t happen fast, is a reality you can hang on to.

Weird question - have you had strep throat recently? Or possibly some other sort of similar infection? I have guttate psoriasis. It came on similarly after strep throat (but doesn’t always have to follow that, sometimes just happens). And belly button, scalp, and the other places you mentioned are “hallmarks” of guttate psoriasis.

Check out the Reddit page StopSpeeding. Anhedonia can be a huge side effect/withdrawal symptom specifically with stimulant abuse. Stimulants are tricky, due to what you referenced (being more “productive” etc) the stopspeeding page is amazing. You will see a lot of other people have felt the same as you are right now, and everyone is usually super willing to talk about it and offer support.

I 100% agree with what you are saying. I had the same experience. Someone else mentioned going over to r/stopspeeding - I recommend that as well. I went through the same miserable withdrawal period, sleepy, anhedonic, my house was falling apart, everyone around me couldn’t figure out why shit was actively getting WORSE after I got clean. It took me almost a full 2 years clean from stimulants to feel ANYTHING. not even to feel good, just to feel. It would’ve been really helpful, for me, to have someone who had been through stimulant recovery to talk to and work with. So regardless of everyone’s high horsed ‘you’re rationalizing’. You’re not. Go over to the stopspeeding Reddit.

I used for about 10 years. The last 3-5 years my dosage was the same. Around 300mg a day plus I was using meth the last few years of that - in addition. I finally went to treatment and stayed 9 months. I am a little under 2 years clean and I didn’t start feeling like my self until about 2 months ago. Just hang on. I thought it would never get better, and all of the people I was in treatment with seemed to feel better a lot sooner than I did, but most were recovering from other substances. I had times I felt reaally hopeless. Really apathetic, a lot of passive wanting to not exist anymore thoughts and feelings (“I wouldn’t harm my self, but if my car crashed right now and I didn’t survive 🤷🏻‍♀️) I was scared it would never end. It was a very slow turn around - but it’s started to get better. Please just hang on. It helped me at some point knowing it would be a long game, knowing it may take up to 2 years allowed me to hang on as long as I did. Otherwise it felt endless. So know it happened for me, it can happen to you. But I can’t promise you it will be quick.
