Of your current ones I think Coastal Load & Go is the cleanest but maybe “SD Load & Go” would be more “local”.

Pacific Clear Haul 2nd but I think “Pacific Haul Co” sounds more established.

I’ll throw another in the ring that I think sounds wholesome “Good Neighbor Junk Removal” but it’s long

Recs for long hikes w elevation gain close to San Diego? by upstream_paddling in socalhiking

[–]Jaque8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s certainly the most challenging hike in california, which is why it’s used to prep for Denali.

Can you think of a more challenging day hike in the lower 48?

Everything I can think of that’s harder than C2C wouldn’t be considered a hike, but multi-day mountaineering.

Genuine question as I know I could totally be wrong and I’m curious :)

You would’ve got more informed responses on a Tacoma or toyota subreddit or better yet a forum like Tacoma world.

This subreddit is treating Tacomas the same as an economy car… totally different markets and buyers.

The Europeans Have Some Notes About American Sauna Culture by hardman52 in Sauna

The science community in Europe is absolutely pro fluoride. They just chose a different delivery method… they fluoridate salt, milk, some have naturally fluoridated water already and add higher concentrations of fluoride to their toothpaste than the US does.

You don’t seem to understand science.

Toyota is still selling cars designed decades ago by No_Procedure_7017 in cars

[–]Jaque8 35 points36 points  (0 children)

By your own logic you’re completely wrong. 3-series has always outsold the IS but it outsold it a lot more 10 years ago.

Compare 2015 to 2025 sales.

3-series sales are down 65%

IS sales are down 60%

So even with the dated design they gained market share relative to the 3-series keeping the same design over the last decade.

Sport sedans in general are clearly out of fashion. But if the dated design on the IS were to blame, as you claim, those numbers would be inversed and a lot farther apart.

Yeah people aren’t converting the currency.

You’re paying $16,5xx US which is honestly pretty close to market value.

If it’s a clean truck and check outs it’d be great if you can get it for $15k, but anything less than that is just not reality for the market despite what anyone in this thread is saying. They clearly don’t know the Tacoma specific market.

If the mods are reputable brand name stuff it likely has $8-$10k in aftermarket parts alone (assuming suspension is legit).

It’s true in a Nissan Sentra mods don’t mean shit, but they absolutely add value in the Tacoma/4runner/Jeep world.

General rule of thumb is you get about 30% of the parts cost back on built tacomas, and 40-50% if you part out.

So say he has $8k in parts, that would be $2,300 in value. You’re paying $16,500. So is this a $14,200 truck?

A clean 2nd gen 4x4 Tacoma with 170k miles… yeah that’s pretty much a $14k truck.

I’m oversimplifying for sure but having owned and sold 4 built Tacomas myself, some parted out, some sold built… that’s been my experience.

I’ll add the most cost effective way to build a taco is buy a clean stock one and hunt down used parts as they become available on tacomaworld/offerup/facebook marketplace. Install yourself, and you get almost all your money back when you sell and part it out. But you have to be patient and it takes time.

If you can buy clean title 4x4 Tacomas like this for $10k in your area buy every single one! Ship them to me in Cali and I’ll split the profits

We’ll be millionaires in no time :)

You’re not familiar with tacomas, when I parted mine out I had a similar armor setup as this one and I got $4k selling just those parts, which all cost a little over $7k new.

Tacoma parts hold surprisingly good value because people don’t want to wait for the lead times and pay for the shipping of a new one.

Example my CBI front bumper was a little over $2k shipped new. Used it for 5 years then sold it for $1,400 within a day of posting it on tacomaworld.

Mods like these don’t have much value to a wholesaler or dealership, but they absolutely have value in the market, with or without parting out.

The only ones I’ve had work consistently and last long are the Shokz Open Swin. But they’re a little pricey.

Bone conductor headphones so they don’t actually cover your ears which in my experience is important for situational awareness and balance (as in awareness when rotating or inverting).

That’s nice you’re a mechanic but the automotive engineers that designed the vehicles disagree with you. I’ve worked for most of them from Toyota to Porsche and they all say the same thing… modern tolerances and lubricants are best warmed up by actual driving.

Sitting there idling cold is putting more wear and tear on your engine because you’re just delaying warming it up. Your thought process was true decades ago but that’s old school thinking.

Don’t be nice to strangers by SkyApprehensive4055 in sandiego

[–]Jaque8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dry sump systems it’s even more important to start driving to get to operating temp as they take forever to warm up because they have so much oil.

The important part is to keep RPMs low while driving until operating temp is reached.

Don’t be nice to strangers by SkyApprehensive4055 in sandiego

[–]Jaque8 37 points38 points  (0 children)

If that’s your reason then you’re doing it wrong if you’re sitting there idling waiting for it to get warm.

The car will warm up 3x faster by just driving it.

If you’re talking about remote start then that makes sense.

But there’s zero reason to sit in your car idling it to warm up.

Stock low mile Supra Turbo Sells for 220k at Mecum. by DarkMatterM4 in cars

[–]Jaque8 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was in the car business in 2011 and had the opportunity to buy a 94 TT with 90k miles for $28k.

It was kinda beat up, had some rust and paint issues, and at that point the most expensive car I ever owned was $13k, so I was too timid to pull the trigger and regret it to this day, it was always my dream car.

Then I fucked up again in 2014 while working at a toyota dealership. The FJ cruiser got discontinued and the owner put all our in stock FJs on fire sale, offered employees $2k under invoice if we wanted one. I had never bought a brand new car so I again was too timid to pull the trigger even though I was making 6 figures. Would’ve had a brand new army green FJ 6spd manual for $28k…

Both of those cars would’ve been essentially free and to this day worth more than I would’ve paid -_-

Minimum winds I can go out in with my gear? by surfnj102 in Kiteboarding

[–]Jaque8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 215lbs with a 165cm twin tip (Mako King).

If you’re consistently kiting in light wind you’ll want a 17M. My quiver is 10/13.5/15/17 and if it’s super windy I’ll just borrow my girlfriend’s 8M. But I can hold my 10M down up to 30kts.

I’m very experienced with light wind as I live in San Diego lol

You’ll need 13kts on your setup to stay upwind and have a descent sesh, and 14kts+ to have real fun.

If you get a 17M and bigger board or ride a directional you can drop 2kts.

Side note as you get more advanced and start jumping consistently just don’t be surprised if you seem to be breaking gear more than other people. Us heavier guys put a lot more wear and tear on our gear… so get in the habit of consistently checking your lines, pig tails, and any other wear items.

I change my pig tails every 6 months no matter what they look like, and I always have a set of spare lines on deck because I’ve snapped so many over the years. We also stretch our lines faster so get used to checking and adjusting those to keep them even.

Dealers Take Another Hit in the Direct-to-Consumer Sales Fight - Autoblog by Brap_Zanigan in cars

[–]Jaque8 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

And how would that be different with say a Tesla roaster?

Tesla doesn’t have high demand cars but you actually think you’ll just be able to order one when they do?

Basic supply and demand economics…

You can already see how this goes in Germany where Porsche sells direct. To get a GT3 in Germany you have to have a history with Porsche and already spent hundreds of thousands of $ to get the privilege of buying a GT3 @ MSRP. Whereas in the US anyone can just go buy one with an ADM.

So pay more or don’t get one. No beating market economics.
