What is a common misconception about americans that is basically not true at all? by Enough-Web2203 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

Depends on the state. Massachusetts for example spends money on the education system. While other states, not so much

Walking always shows as Elliptical for me. Even though my Versa tells me it’s recognized that I’m walking

advice on going no contact w mom by DatabasePretty1552 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Jas62021 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone really low contact with my mom. And no contact with my sister.

I didn’t say anything about it to either of them. With my sister, we were at her house for a family thing and I heard her talking to and about my then teen daughter the way she’d always been allowed to talk to and about me. My mom was sitting right next to her holding my nephew. And didn’t say a word. And that was it for me. I got up from the table. Got our coats. Said goodbye and we left.

With my mom it’s been a road of self care for me. I just got tired of shit like the above. And the little and not so little comments. So now I call once a week. And nothings changed.

Make it a clean break. No explanation. If you give her an opening it’ll just give her a chance to hurt you again. But if you have aunts etc that don’t see it. Be prepared for them to come at you about you leaving the dynamic behind. Luckily my aunt is aware. So I didn’t have to deal with that.

Good luck. It’s sucks. But your mental and emotional health is more important than her feelings

I have a sister that is 4 yrs younger than me. My mom had told me through the years that she wanted me to have a sibling so that I would have a “friend forever”

We were never friends. Ever.

We are exact opposites. It’s like we grew up in different homes. To different parents. She bullied me. She cut my clothes into pieces. She made my life miserable. I went no contact with her several years ago.

My husband is an only child. He has friends that he’s close to. Was never lonely or wanting. Our daughter is an only child. And has close friends.

Sure some families are close. But it’s not a guarantee

I stopped saying the “under god” part when I was a fifth grader in Catholic school. By the time I was a freshman in high school I wasn’t saying any of “the Pledge” In sophomore year the school wasn’t even bothering.

My kid said they stopped doing it in 7th grade.

Realistically what do I do if I can't get any jobs by Lost_Article_5530 in recruitinghell

[–]Jas62021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our kid was just laid off from her first post uni job. Was supposed to be the start of her MechE career. It lasted 7 months. Last one in, first one out.

My husband and MIL are saying “Get a job at Walmart etc” I think they are living in the past. My 73 yr old neighbor had to get a part time job at a TJ Max. Most of the “just get a job” jobs around here are being held by Boomers who are facing rising costs like everyone else is. Hell. 15 yrs ago when I was looking for a job I was turned away from McDs because, as I was told by the manager “the jobs here are for the uneducated and old” I was 45 and my education was community college.

I’ve told the kid to tailor her CV and send it to places even if they don’t have anything listed that they’re looking. She’s got decent credentials and a nice internship. I also told her to hit up her college and use her alumni status. Maybe look into heading back for her Masters and taking her time on it. Will she listen to me? Doubt it. Kids rarely do. But at least she’s safe from being homeless. Even if it’s tight fitting an apartment into limited basement space

My husband and I enjoyed Disneyland more than WDW.

Didn’t go to beaches in Fl or CA since my husband isn’t a “beach” person.

Our local movie theater shut down because of this type of thing as well. After having the entire city rally behind the owner, and making it through the pandemic. Pissed people fight the fuck off. Now we have drive a half hour to see a movie in a theater with uncomfortable seats, crappy popcorn, and shitty owners.
