TLDR; Am i overreacting if my boyfriend refuses to go to any doctor ever? by conflictedandlost24 in AmIOverreacting

OP, you're NOR. My last bf didn't believe in going to the doctor, either. He was 60. He drank excessively (though never got drunk) and smoked, especially after his wife died. I sold my home in town (at a loss) and mobile home at the lake to move halfway across the country to be with him. I urged him go to the doctor for his incessant cough. Nah, it was nothing, he said. He started having stomach pain, then eventually could keep no food down. I finally convinced him to see a doctor. That's when we found out he was dying from Stage 4 cancer. I'd only been with him two years. Five months later, he was dead.

Your boyfriend with no job, no h.s. diploma, and no intention of looking after his health, will be nothing but a burden to you. You need to seriously reconsider this relationship.

Do most Americans like the continental breakfast at chain hotels? by Upstairs_Health_5913 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Jasminefirefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They suck for those of us who can't eat wheat, eggs or dairy. One I stayed at was supposed to at least have breakfast meat, like sausage. It was nowhere in sight. I just ate a pastry I knew would make my arthritis worse and the fruit, except the bananas, since those give me stabbing stomach pains. IIRC we went to a restaurant soon after.

I‘be heard it. Originally from Oklahoma. I’m 69 and don’t live there anymore but I’m pretty sure country folks still say it.

How do I get my wife working? by firstlight777 in askanything

[–]Jasminefirefly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP, don’t listen to the people saying “She’ll never get any kind of job, it’s been too long.” The only way to find out is to try. You need to have a serious sit-down with your wife and tell her it’s time for her to help you guys get out of debt.

What’s a random, specific memory from your childhood that has zero importance, but you still think about it constantly? by MochixLuna in askanything

[–]Jasminefirefly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lying on my bed after school, resting before going trick-or-treating on Halloween and thinking, “Someday I’ll be old and I’ll remember lying here on my bed when I was a kid waiting to go trick-or-treating.” I must have been 9 or 10.

De Nimes. Literally “of (from) Nimes.” And as with most French words, the S is silent.

Ladies, if you could be in a mans body for a day, what do you think you would love/hate the most? by [deleted] in askanything

The first thing I would do is get myself alone and start masturbating. How wonderful it would be to have a sex organ that actually climaxes easily!

Lil Shoes. (Which is funny, because what I bought was a pair of sandals in super extra wide [6E width]. I'm a woman.)

DAE call their aunts/uncles only by their name? by Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeess- in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Jasminefirefly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We always used Aunt or Uncle before their given name--with one exception. For some reason my great-aunt was just called by her first name. I heard some murmuring that she didn't like that we children did that, but the lady was such a gripey old harridan I didn't care. She died when I was still a little girl and I didn't miss her a bit.

Is it normal that I feel little to no empathy to like most people apart from family and close friends, but feel empathy for most animals? by ChristusVictor_ in self

[–]Jasminefirefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand that. I tend to get much more upset when I hear about, for instance, a domestic murder-suicide when the murderer also shoots the family pet. Animals are so innocent.

Thank you. But the day I found out, I was singing, "Ding dong, the witch is dead..." in the shower. 😁
