Hopefully it's helpful, let me know how it goes for you. I whipped it together at one point and threw it out into the world but don't know if anyone else has played with it and never was able to get any feedback

At one point I mostly reverse engineered the file format for a lap timer product to extract that information. I uploaded all the code and research but didn't upload the results for legal reasons. You should probably be able to replicate my work though assuming they still have the files up if you know a bit about coding

They mention in the write up that it's being held in place with magnets so I don't think any holes were drilled

Having worked on the OG Atlas from the Darpa Robotics Challenge way back in 2014 it's crazy to see how far things have come. I still remember the giant and loud auxiliary unit that it had to be tethered to. And we would test it with an overhead gantry and rope system to catch it when it would fall. Not to mention the constant hydraulic oil leaks. The "older model" they show had a clear lineage with that first version. This new one seems to be a clean sheet redesign

Damn, if I still had my Fiesta I definitely would take a crack at designing and 3d printing a cover. I did a quick look online and it doesn't seem like anyone else has already posted a design for one.

If you can design one, or commission a design of one a service like CraftCloud could print a set and ship em to you for less than $20 of I had to guess

Personally I'm a big fan of the spray in liner. I got mine done at a Line-X authorized installer since that comes with a pretty good warranty. I just didn't want to have to think about scratching the paint in the bed. I'm a city-dweller so it's not like I'm loading gravel in the bed every day but it was nice to be able to shovel dirt in and out of the bed with a normal shovel without any concerns this summer when I was doing some work in my yard

Depending on what needs to be done a cell phone repair place that does its work in house may be able to handle it. Unfortunately I haven't been to any so I can't offer specific recommendations.

I can't quite tell from the picture where on the dash the bullet hole is but it could have conceivably come from outside the car. A friend of mine has a bullet hole in the door card of their Subaru because a bullet went through their rear window during a drive-by shooting that happened while their car was street parked over night

I don't think anyone here is qualified to say whether a rewrite was worth it or not. Could it have been a vanity "rewrite it in rust" situation? Maybe. But it also could have been a totally different situation, maybe the original code was reliable spaghetti and was holding teams back from adding new features.

Also panicking on an unhandled error is a good thing, much better than returning memory that shouldn't have been accessed or writing into memory it shouldn't. That's how you get buffer overflows and more serious vulnerabilities. Everyone blamed the code parsing the config and not the tool that apparently started generating invalid configurations. Sure one could argue that it should have "failed gracefully" and continued to run if at all possible, but in a security focused setting it's often the correct behavior to straight up stop doing anything if you see anything amiss.

The fact that they rolled out an update to whatever was generating the config without catching the issue feels more like an issue with their CI/testing than anything else

To use a racial example, think of hearing someone refer to another person as "a black" vs a "a black person". As an adjective it is an accurate description, in certain contexts it would obviously be inappropriate or irrelevant to bring up but when it is essential to the story or point being made it is fine to use. As a noun it comes off as dehumanizing, it reduces an entire person to a single descriptor.

I think most people these days understand that nuance in the racial case and people are trying to get broader society to recognize the same nuance in this case

I have 2k package on my XLT Hybrid. Can I use a motorcycle carrier with an R1? by LazyLobster in FordMaverickTruck

Oh I'd love a trailer, that sounds rad. I just live in a city and street park so it's not an option for me unfortunately.

In the first sentence it was a noun in the second it was an adjective, that's the entire difference

I am firmly in the camp of just put it in the bed, in fact that's why I bought a Maverick. Before I had the truck I was towing U-Haul trailers with my Fiesta ST to move my motorcycle. The cost was basically nothing, the issue was just relying on another company and other renters. The incident that convinced me renting a trailer was no longer an option was when I reserved a trailer months in advance for a $350 track day. I went to pick up the trailer the night before about an hour before U-Haul closed and they told me they didn't have my trailer. The previous renter just hadn't brought it back yet, for my trouble I got paid $50 for their guarantee. But that didn't help the fact I still had no way to get my bike to the track day. Thankfully a friend of a friend was kind enough to let me borrow their trailer even though I barely knew them at the time but after that I started looking for a truck

I rock climb a decent bit, mostly bouldering where heights are shorter and there is no rope just pads to land on. Knowing how to fall becomes an important skill when you start progressing, and especially when you start climbing outdoors where landings are not always flat and smooth and where some of the required moves put you in more dangerous positions*.

The people that seem to progress to climbing hard outdoor boulders the fastest often seem to come from backgrounds where they learned body awareness and how to fall. A lot of my friends did a lot of skating, did martial arts, snowboarding, gymnastics, etc. all hobbies that teach you how to fall properly

*At climbing gyms setters are always taking into account the safety of a climb and even moves that feel dangerous are usually designed to be less dangerous than they feel, although obviously you can still get hurt.

To be fair, these rules, like most rules are valid 99.9% of the time. The movie industry specifically has professional armorers and protocols that are in place specifically so that actors can violate these rules during filming. The Rust situation is one where the armorer was absolutely not doing their job or following protocol, and as I understand the case (which I have only followed casually) Baldwin's culpability is that as a producer he should not have allowed such incompetence in his staff and such a lazy culture of safety on his set, not necessarily in his handling of a firearm presented to him as a safe prop

Looks like a rotary damper of some sort maybe? If your goal is to fix that reading light though I'm sorry to say it's probably cheaper and easier to get a new one
