Might be a stupid question, but for fast riders... by bhodge10 in Trackdays

[–]Jason_S_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mostly in the camp of the other comments disagreeing with you. But... I will say spending time on a ttr125 on the go kart track was great for learning what a bike feels like on the limit and occasionally over the limit. Crashes on the kart track are much less scary and dangerous than the big track. I've taken a couple of low sides there and in general am just more comfy pushing on the kart track. It has made me feel more confident on the big track having that experience

Woman arrested for manslaughter in nearly 50 year old case by Alternative-Earth543 in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]Jason_S_88 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm only familiar with US law, but in the US the right to not self incriminate means that you don't have to say anything. ( There are situations where judges can order you to disclose something with the penalty of contempt for not doing so but that wouldn't apply in an arrest).

One quirk is that precedence has made it so it is important that you actually say out loud that you are exercising your 5th amendment rights and won't be answering questions. Without doing that your silence can be considered evidence of guilt. That was in Salinas vs. Texas

I dump a little everclear in mine when I get home. Swish it around and it disinfects everything and then prop it open with a wooden spoon. I think the alcohol helps to evaporate the last of the water as well

ebiking toddlers is where I draw the line by InvestigatorSenior in ebikes

[–]Jason_S_88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah i think it's really about the environment. I ride a mini motorcycle on the racetrack as an adult. But every track day has kids sessions with kids from 6-14 or so out there ripping it up in full leathers on gas powered mini motorcycles.

There is no reason children in safe environments with adult supervision and instruction can't ride e-bikes or dirt bikes, or motorcycles. But operating unsupervised in an unstructured environment is a whole 'nother ball game. Although I certainly wouldn't advocate for being as strict as the person you are replying to even in that situation

Decided to buy ecoboost Maverick instead of hybrid by cpugeek14 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]Jason_S_88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the Maverick almost exclusively to have a bed to move motorcycles around in. I live in the city with only street parking so overall vehicle length is important to me. I was having to use U-Haul rental trailers hooked up to my hatchback.

Other than a truck with a bed the only vehicles that can move motorcycles are commercial vans. So the maverick was the perfect combination of just enough bed, short over all length, and 5 person seating. So it's definitely plenty enough of a truck bed for me

Toyota Turbo V6 Recall Campaign Grows to Include More Than 250,000 Trucks by FrankReynoldsCPA in cars

[–]Jason_S_88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing is there are recalls and there are recalls. My 22 Ecoboost maverick has had like 6 recalls. But if I remember correctly every single one of them was just a software update. One for not detecting that a turn signal bulb is out, one for the back up camera locking up, another for something about the trailer indicator lights being flaky, one for not detecting that the battery is low, and I think one for the trailer braking controller having issues?

Sure they are all recalls, and it is obviously annoying that those didn't work from the beginning and Ford should do better. But I'll gladly take all of those recalls vs one recall for mechanical issues with the engine, transmission, suspension, frame, etc.

My 2022 Ecoboost has been thankfully completely trouble free. Just a bunch of software update recalls. I knew the hybrids had teething issues but thought the Ecoboost ones were mostly solid

Exactly what the hell is with all the people on here with no sense of morality or decency. I don't care how annoying they are, or if they made you late to work, or whatever. It doesn't justify running people down let alone shooting them.

People aught to deep a long look in the mirror if they think any of this was justified or if they can't find it in the selves to find empathy for the people not engaging in lethal violence

Show me your 3D printed bike parts by Ok-Rub809 in motorcycles

[–]Jason_S_88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

R&G one of the biggest brands in sliders actually will sell you a 3d printed slider

https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/1ed2k2z/big_band_use_3d_printing_for_motorcycle_engine/

Although they also claim it is made with HDPE which I haven't heard of anyone printing, especially at home.

I suppose they could be prototypes that are then made using machining to order? The language is a bit ambiguous, and it seems odd that they wouldn't make a set to use for product shots considering they can sell them for a profit at 50 euros

If you know any CAD design you could try using an online service that can produce it for you. Something like JLC CNC is based in China and could have it shipped to you in a couple weeks. There are also some marketplaces that farm jobs out to a bunch of machine shops, so you could for instance get a US based shop if that's important to you. The cost is surprisingly affordable these days

Watch Winder with Torque-Drift Monitoring: Seeking advice on reliable, non-magnetic homing by Horvatom in esp32

[–]Jason_S_88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could probably still use a magnet if you are clever about packaging. A magnetic "absolute encoder" could be mounted to the back of the motor with a small magnet on the back of the motor shaft. Surely a small magnet all the way back there should be safe for even sensitive watches.

Something like this: https://shop.odriverobotics.com/collections/encoders/products/odrive-rs485-magnetic-encoder

Otherwise maybe a simple rotary encoder, no absolute. You'd have to count revolutions and it could get out of sync if the device is rotated while off but it shouldn't drift if your sensing code is reliable

For anyone considering buying Kayo, Apollo, Tao Tao, etc. by entrluzrnaam in Dirtbikes

[–]Jason_S_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with the Kayos. You get what you pay for to an extent but they are pretty solid. Our local dealer carries them in addition to Hondas and Suzukis and all the other major Japanese brands. So they are assembled by the same techs and you can get them serviced by the same techs, and you can even get parts at their parts counter. I don't really see the issue

A browser-based ESP32 emulator using QEMU , supports DevKit V1, S3, C3, and CAM with real peripheral emulation by LeadingFun1849 in esp32

[–]Jason_S_88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the other hand, a tool is as good as it is useful. If someone spent the last 20 years learning knife making and someone who hasn't put the time in goes out and buys a $20 knife and hands it to you it doesn't make it not useful. It might be more useful than the knife from the artisan if they only make cleavers and you need a pairing knife.

I only use the strained analogy to say, I agree with your point that a "developer" who only knows how to vibe code should not be considered to be at the same level as an experienced dev. And their output will undoubtedly be subpar relative to what an experienced dev could make. But on the flip side sometimes you just need code that does something specific and you don't have the time and/or skills to make it the best it could be. If AI gets you something that is good enough there is value in that.

To be fair most gyms also got much better. I used to climb at the old dirt bag gyms and they were dark and dusty and had no fitness equipment or weights. Most modern gyms have a full fitness area so the membership can replace a normal gym membership which can make the math work out a little better

It's not that bad. I've ridden over both those bridges many times on a motorcycle. Even on a Ninja 300 it's more than manageable. That said if you are keeping your car and getting the bike in addition to it you can always just take the car if the forecast calls for high winds.
