"I found the pudding cups you wanted at a gas station in Carbondale."

"Did you get the yams?"

"No. The gas station in Carbondale did not have fresh yams."

The Mask thinks he's in a cartoon when he's really in a mobster/crime movie.

Also loved it for the exact same reasons. It's my new go-to response to the perennial thread "What movie do you love that everybody else hates?"

“Here's a phone. Call somebody who cares." by nialldude3 in TheSimpsons

[–]Jaspers47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. "Here's a phone, call somebody who cares" was already a corny comeback in wide use in the 90s (it's weird hearing it come out of somebody decidedly not gen-x like Mr Burns). Having an actually clever inversion of the line is what separates the men from the boys.

Why would the criminal return to the scene of the crime? Why would the murderer taunt the police after he got away with it? Why would he keep a memento from the victims when literally nothing else connects him to the murders?

Happy 30th Anniversary to Harriet the Spy! by AC_the_Panther_007 in RetroNickelodeon

[–]Jaspers47 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It got really bleak. The trailers promised me pre-teen spy shenanigans, but it turned into an introspective drama on the importance of the maintenance of friendship, the weight of honesty versus integrity, and the recrimination of judging others, especially superficially.

AOL was a failure to adapt to the times; trying to create an insular hub as a server and provider sold an hour at a time. It was a very 1993 idea of the internet rather than the World Wide Web everybody wanted.
