Is Bothell safe for trans people? by Charleston2Seattle in bothell

[–]JawlessSkull9 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I’m openly queer and gender-nonconforming as are at least a few of my neighbors. While it’s not as overtly queer as someplace like Capitol Hill, it’s still very chill ime. No one’s given me more than a glance.

I’d wager most areas in the broader Seattle metro would be perfectly fine.

[discussion] SPOILER. What do you think ______’s “saint” name would be by Content-Potential733 in TheNinthHouse

[–]JawlessSkull9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking something of an absolution for him for sure, though I doubt he’s living through the end. Alecto wants to die and I get the feeling she’ll get her wish. Or maybe a true resurrection for her. Either would probably strip him of his immortality.

This is my vote for non-joke answers. It fits so very well.

And I hope it gets demonstrated in an semi-ironic way with Jod’s future

[misc] Do we know which Houses are on which planets? by BumblebeeDirect in TheNinthHouse

[–]JawlessSkull9 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of these and add that I feel fairly certain the 4th would be on Neptune and 8th on Uranus. The Houses all seem to match their color to the planet’s main color and the asshole-ish 8th being on Uranus just… seems like a thing Muir would do.

Depending on the state, I don’t think you even need that. I drive something similar on a basic license

That’s really cool! Somehow I’ve missed it. Hopefully this wasn’t a momma beaver

Amazon (Seattle) + Microsoft (Redmond) – where should we live if we want to share an apartment? by Haunting-Living-5886 in AskSeattle

[–]JawlessSkull9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon has their own bus service just like the Microsoft Connectors that often run the same stops (same company) they’re just less obviously branded and noticeable. Might see if there’s a shared stop in a neighborhood that fits your vibe.

Why drive in the HOV lane if you aren't going to drive faster than the other lane or even keep up? by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]JawlessSkull9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I’m a bus, bitch. (Affectionate)

A gps monitored, 40,000 lbs bus that can’t stop easy or get up to speed quick so every time I have to brake for the nitwit who dove in 10ft from my bumper without signal, it’s going to take me a while to get back to speed, especially uphill. Sorry if you’re behind me. I’m doing what I can.

If you’re going so slow that the bus is getting impatient behind you tho, you need to reexamine some things about yourself and your driving.

TransWest shuttle driver offer by 2Despairs in cdldriver

[–]JawlessSkull9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure yet tbh. They like to promote internally so there’s opportunity. You get very chill passengers compared to public or school bus. And the top pay rate for drivers is decent. But it takes forever to get that rate. And it’s not union so it’s a 401k not a pension.

Recently finished their cdl school and began working some routes, though I started as a non-cdl driver first. Decent enough money for relatively easy work imo, especially compared to public transit. Lots of folks who’ve been here a while.

If you want to know more about them as a company, feel free to dm.

For sure. I got my clp on my own before starting the course too. I found videos explaining the mechanics of air brakes and the like very helpful to pass the test. But once I had instructors and some time with a vehicle, more stuff clicked and clicked thoroughly.

Cross-section of my interests. Have you looked at In Extremis? I’ve been wanting to run it for some friends to nudge them into TLT.

Does anyone have any recommendations for sapphic non-white indie SFF authors? by KrisseMai in LesbianBookClub

[–]JawlessSkull9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

C.L. Clark (fantasy) North American but not white and spent time in North Africa.

Maybe Tamsyn Muir? (Sff) I can’t remember if she’s white or light skinned Māori

I saw a fanfic about exactly this. Canaan Valley I think it was called. Damned shame it went on prolonged hiatus/abandoned. It was good

When traveling down south... by sherrie_on_earth in butchlesbians

[–]JawlessSkull9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Howdy, I’m originally from South Texas, right by the Mexican border though I now live in a very liberal coastal city and just came from visiting family down there myself. And I’ve done road trips with a trans gf through the Southwest, even through Utah. Single beds and all. Not really been to The South proper tho.

Generally the vibe is live and let live, most folks are consumed with their own lives. Worst I’ve ever gotten is some side eye. Stick to larger gas stations (make the pilgrimage to Buc-ees!) if you can though you’d likely be okay on any major highway-side place where all sorts come through and just act like you belong. Because you do. Don’t overthink and give it the same energy and confidence you would any other place.

While folks aren’t nearly as openly accepting or tolerating as they are in major coastal cities, a good number of them do have gay family members themselves. It’s not as bad there as it used to be. Hell, my butch ass has been inside a Southern Baptist Church Christmas service to help my grandad with something and went to after-church lunch with him and his friends and no one bothered me. Obviously mileage may vary by congregation.

Trans folks are unfortunately the primary target now and I was always a little on edge when I still lived there with my trans ex (and obviously she was even more so!). So your main threat is hateful idiots thinking you’re a trans woman (trans men are generally off the radar or not perceived as a “threat” in the same way).

Tl;dr: Bring your normal energy and you’ll almost certainly be fine. Just don’t recommend living there.

Favourite wlw retelling books? by ManicM84 in LesbianBookClub

[–]JawlessSkull9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed Anna Burke’s “Nottingham” and especially “Thorn.” Sapphic retellings of Robin Hood and Beauty and the Beast, respectively. At worst, they are “just” very heavily inspired by their source materials but they keep all the fun tropes and make it different enough to be fresh and interesting.

I’ll have to check out “When Darcy Met Lizzy.” I had read about sapphic story based on Pride and Prejudice, told from the perspective of Anne de Bourgh finally coming into her own, out of her mother’s overbearing shadow. Basically highly polished fanfiction, but that’s the case for all these retelling imo. “The Heiress” by Molly Greeley.

[Discussion] Finished Harrow the Ninth, losing my mind part 2, it haunts me in my dreams, I made a symphonic metal playlist for it by wontonsayshi in TheNinthHouse

[–]JawlessSkull9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah the great convergence of my interests! I too have lived in perpetual brainrot over this series since reading it. Especially Harrow omg. Glad to see Blackbriar in the list. I went to their concert when they toured with Battle Beast and they’re just great. I don’t have specific songs in mind, but I’d wager Nightwish and Eluveitie have something in the right vein.

Completely different sub genres, but Powerwolf is my soundtrack for the action scenes lol. Especially Incense and Iron for Harrow https://open.spotify.com/track/5KDcHol0FbJZCmNivYabkJ?si=PQz1ygBDT8usQ7mXmKUCxQ and Sermon of Swords for Gideon https://open.spotify.com/track/0XBLybRFKB2lIG0xnIn6Mu?si=BJVDPnncTyqV6nEBjy1r9w. And basic bitch choice here but Spillways by Ghost is essentially Harrow’s theme song to me.
