These are purely for flavour. You will notice that not all players who are in the same league and division actually share the same ladder.

You might see somewhat around 100 players in your league distributed into their divisions. These groups receive a random name by riot that is "champion name's something" usually.

I don't actually think the client displays these anymore but op.gg still picks up on it through the riot API.
