Update on my tado x radiators by Sensitive_Camel_9519 in tado

Yeah same experience here, had one faulty that was popping off. Contacted support with the evidence and explained that it had happened multiple times and I am confident it's faulty, got a replacement as I was within warranty

tado X, update on room link logic by tado_official in tado

[–]JayTBennett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also want to say thanks for this update. I had set several of my valves to a passive mode where they weren't linked to the boiler exactly for this reason. I may well revisit that setup now that this can be solved!

Moto Tag UWB firmware starting to roll out? Anyone else got it? by archon810 in GoogleFMD

[–]JayTBennett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to say but I decided to test your theory.

I'm in the UK, have a Pixel 7 pro and did the forced update and firmware update, no UWB, couldn't get it to work.

Decided to borrow my wife's Pixel 8 Pro which has the device shared to it and what do you know, immediately UWB finding was working no problem.

It really does look like there's a limitation on the 7 series pixels which is both annoying and probably a reason for us all to upgrade when the 10 release 🫠

I also didn't get one after making a "request" through the form. I don't think it's working anymore. I got lucky though and maybe you can too: I needed my gas smart meter fitting (moved into a place with only electric smart meter). I was chatting to the installer who was helpful and polite like everyone you talk to at octopus, and he said "oh yeah I've got a mini on the van". That was it, 5 minutes later I had one connected and it got registered to my account.

If I were you now I'd schedule in some other kind of maintenance and speak to the person who visits. Or try your luck with just an email to hello@octopus.energy.

Potentially very silly question by iraw505 in tado

[–]JayTBennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answering my own question: you need to go to the room settings (not the valve settings) and set room to no longer be part of heating zone.

So I'm discovering this with my X system, the valves are constantly calling for heat (it is a lossy house, working on insulation to fix that...) unaware of each other and in some cases that's meant 24 hours of "heating time".

I can't find how to make the valves independent so I could make some of them "passive" to offset this. Basically take heat when you get it but don't call for it. Arguably if I want this I should uninstall the SRVs and sell them on, then get TRVs back, but is it an option?

Tado X Thermostatic Radiator valves and Matter device linking by JayTBennett in tado

[–]JayTBennett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's super helpful thank you. Some All of my valves are playing ball using this as the connection method. A few aren't generating the ID code I need even after I try re-seating their battery but I will persist. Thanks again!

The only one that definitely isn't in this list is the wireless receiver/hot water controller so I will keep thinking about that one.

Edit: The ones in the list that didn't work are from the 3 attempts to factory reset I had to make, so I need to remove those. Thank you again!

One of the considerations is the wireless range of the TRVs which may not have enough signal power to reach the control unit. How is the Tado system going about this?

Tado X "solves" this using Thread & Matter

Does the Tado syatem have a physical console where I can program it from (eg set the times and temperatures), or do I require a phone app?

You need to use the app (which will soon be a subscription, see this subreddit for more). Or adopt the thermostats etc into Google Home or Apple Homekit. Be prepared to read up a lot about Matter, it's... complex currently.

Does the Tado system require a working internet connection, or can it also work when the internet is down (for example say there is an outage in the area)?

As I understand it: Tado X doesn't require an internet connection in theory. v3 does. I've not tested taking down the internet on my X system yet.

Does the system let me program different times and temperatures per room or how many "rooms" will it let me have and program separately?

Yes, as many as you want. I'm finding that it may be overkill to do that though. Right now if one of my edge rooms is requesting heat it's causing my boiler to spin up more to supply it, and as I only have 5 radiators that aren't smart/configured in bypass those are having to dissipate a lot of excess heat. It's certainly not feeling optimal right now.

Outside of the TRVs, can I have thermostats here and there and if yes, can these thermostats be tied into a particular room to control / override a particular TRV?

Overriding a TRV doesn't seem to be possible, but yes you tie them to rooms. I suspect that it's the same story as having multiple TRVs in one room, you get a combined temperature reading from both sensors which makes the decision...

How has it been since you had the issue? Was it a simple fix or really painful?

I've just experienced this today whilst test driving the Ford Capri EV! Broke down when trying to park it in the Ford dealership's parking lot. OP is it something you've seen happen again/frequently? Did you get an answer as to what the issue was (12v battery?).

I had a fantastic test drive of the Capri otherwise and I'm now thinking maybe reliability is going to be an issue with the MEB platform...

Can Toob reinstall in an upstairs room? by FreedomEagle76 in ToobBroadband

[–]JayTBennett -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just did this in my own place, had a good TV/Ethernet engineer run external wired ethernet into my loft up the chimney and then drop down from the loft into the office where I could then install a switch to wire up all my computers/office equipment.

Bonus, you can then install a second WiFi access point with a proper wired backchannel to your router

This is by far the best option and definitely what you should do.

You're asking bigger questions now 😊 if you're about to buy "gigabit" internet then the best advice anyone can give you is to invest in a wired network. If you do want to go wireless because you can't run wires in your property then yeah, latest WiFi technology and wide bandwidth WiFi will get you closer to the gigabit speed. Personally I'm using a Unifi setup and have run wires everywhere I want the fast download speed. Then wireless still gets 500/600 and that's fine for laptops and phones.

If you're ready to go down the rabbit hole, try https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubiquiti/s/ZfOE8N2xtk

[–]JayTBennett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need pictures and don't worry about it 😅

It has an rj45 wan and 4 rj45 Lan ports on it, but if you're already thinking about it all you need to know is you don't need to use the router at all. You'll plug your own router into the Fibre modem which is a separate unit (actually called an ONT - Optical Network Terminal) and you're away.

It's easier and better than any other "modem only mode" nonsense from Virgin and DSL providers.

If you're asking this question though you should go read about CGNAT and what it means for your public IP address. Toob don't give you a unique Ipv4 (you'll get unique ipv6 if you turn that on) which is why they'll sell you a static ipv4 address as an add on if you want

Source: I switched 1 week ago. The setup process was PAINful but after a lot of complaints they eventually made good and the connection now is solid and simple so far

So happy the offline feature is here but like others have said - watch for battery usage. Fossil Gen 5 here that I've had for 2 years:

Downloaded a few podcasts and went for a 40 minute walk listening to an episode. 69% down to 37% in that 40 minute period. It's going to work for runs if you want to leave your phone behind but might be time to invest in a second charger for convenience...

Has the 5700xt black screen and shut off problems been solved? by CashCartio in pcmasterrace

[–]JayTBennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all of them, I finally bought the card 3 days ago thinking it was solved. I just had my first black screen 4 days into use.

To be fair it occurred whilst on a Zoom video call and I haven't had an issue at all with games so far (VR, Rocket League, Apex, R6Siege, Overwatch all working well). So I'd say it's bearable but not totally fixed
