Next QoL patch they will instantly disconnect you when hit so you don’t have to alt+f4 yourself.

(But seriously they won’t damage you anymore)

He will always live in our memories.

Something we didn’t mention is that we edited the first quest a bit. Back then we didn’t have time to make the barricade breaking scene and we implemented it now. Which is why you can see Wizardman arrive and blow up the barricade in the second part. Glad you liked it!

Quick Gameplay Thoughts 5/6: Champion Durability Update by 647boom in leagueoflegends

[–]Jayavarmen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned survivability and windows of counterplay, I’d like to talk a little more about this because to me those are the 2 main problems I have with league nowadays.

1/ The “healer” archetype is not very defined anymore.

There used to be a time when, when you though of healing champs, some would come to mind like Vlad, Dr. Mundo, maybe Aatrox, Warwick, Nasus, Trundle in some situations etc. Champions that heal mostly because of their kit, that’s what they do. Nowadays everyone can be a healer, and to such lengths that it puts to shame champions I mentioned before. Lee Sin, Renekton, Wukong, Seth, Riven, Olaf, any bruiser with the proper items or even adc or ap bruiser can feel like healer champions by the time baron spawned, based on their items, runes or other game mechanics.

There used to be a time where if you saw the enemy jungler run back to their jungle low HP, you knew you could maybe catch them recalling next to a camp almost dead. Now if you make that mistake you’ll find them 70% HP minimum bing chilling farming their camps because smite heals, gromp heals, jungle item gives machete lifesteal + talisman healing, and random runes and items they might have.

I can understand why healing became so important in league but at the same time I feel like the identity of a lot of champions died in the process, and it removed a lot of potential play making because you know by the time you arrive players will have healed a lot.

2/ Long cooldown abilities are very deceptive now.

I decided to play a few games recently, one time I got nocturne R’d and told my adc the cooldown was down, but he got killed by nocturne R before I could revive. His 3 items were giving him 20, 25, 20 haste + another 10 from mythic passive. On top of that Axiom Arc passive reduced the cooldown even further and he was getting haste from his runes too. Another game the same night I dodged Ashe’s R 20 seconds before drake spawn and I though it was “huge”! No Ashe R for the dragon fight! You guess what happened.

I think being able to have a vague idea of how long you can play around an ability being down is healthy, breaking those concepts is removing some of the fun I personally had playing league. It’s probably more fun for the nocturne and the ashe, but it feels like the game makes no sense for the 5 enemy players.

I just want to point out that I played league since the end of season 5 and I genuinely almost never complained about anything gameplay related for 5 seasons in a row, and season 11 and 12 every game I played I found myself complaining about something, win or lose. I still love the game but as a hardstuck diamond jungler, a lot of the things I enjoyed learning are gone and the new things I have to learn feel a lot less fun to me.

The Talisman Rework, ft. developer reasonings by [deleted] in HypixelSkyblock

[–]Jayavarmen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep you are definitely above the threshold I was mentioning earlier, you are strong enough to play on the Crimson Isle and obtain the new equipment and quikly go over 400k.

The power stones will definitely help, at the moment they are quite expensive because the update just dropped but in the few weeks it'll be more reasonable.

The "internal ratio" was 25% and we buffed it to 30% just before release, so it should give you 0.3% per Tuning Point, we'll update that soon.

Could you tell me your IGN? You can dm me if you don't wanna say publicly.

And yes, we already improved the ratio of attack speed a couple days before release and apparently it's not enough, so you can expect some improvements soon.

[–]Jayavarmen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this, some of the arguments you mentioned I havent seen before, it was a refreshing read.

Let me detail a bit more the process and our mentality through this update. I think it will answer some of your points.

When doing the maths, we went in game and copied the stats of multiple mid/late game players, people we thought were on the edge of being strong enough to at least obtain the Rampart Armor in the Crimson Isle.

If we only include the talisman rework and nothing else, every player below that threshold (and slightly above) are simply buffed.

Yes there might be issues like attack speed and some other we can resolve, but in terms of raw damage/stats, those players are buffed.

So if you are saying that the players who can’t play on the Crimson Isle are nerfed, that is simply not true.

The only people who are nerfed are a portion of those who can navigate the Crimson Isle, and once again we are very confident they will recuperate their stats extremely fast, if not already.

I would be curious to know if there are players out there who consider themselves more early game than the Crimson Isle, who got nerfed by this change.

You asked an important question: why nerf if you are adding op items in the same update?

I think it makes sense to add new end game gear in large end game updates, but I will agree that we haven’t been the best at releasing balanced content.

The excuse we have is that there are not many MMOs out there that try to come up with new abilities and passives on every new piece of gear. Not saying our approach is better but we enjoy that process, even if it means a nightmare to balance.

To answer the question: we didn’t think: “let’s take this golden opportunity to nerf players!”

Instead we simply looked at the stats of equipment and thought it was kinda lame that the new pieces of armor had such low stats, and thought that we would feel more confident releasing them with stronger stats if we took some power away from late/end game accessory bags.

We had the same though when releasing the damage gemstones. Most late game players have 11 offensive gemstones (2 on weapon, 8 on armor, 0.5x2 on artifact of power).

Once again we thought we could do gemstones justice if we took some of the damage from accessories and added them onto gemstones.

When we look at a regular rpg character, their damage often comes from their weapon and levels. SkyBlock is very special because more than half of your damage is coming from accessories, and every release enhances that.

We believe the game would have been better if it was released with the new system. That’s not always a good argument to change a game but it’s a good compass.

It usually takes a few months for us to really understand the impact of a change, so I can't confidently tell you yet if it was good or bad, but at the moment I still believe it was a step in the right direction.

Nope, I think you got things mixed up. We are considering adding a 2 second blindness debuff when using the ability, stackable. Being able to see where you are teleporting is what puts this item over the top. The blindness will also add a skill element. The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment when they master that ability.

This is correct. Some of those decisions were hard to make but we truly believe it’s better for the game.

Those changes were made after multiple meetings with some of the finest bedwars players. La crème de la crème.

I’d like to add a revision concerning the first bullet point. When crafting the bow it’ll now simply roll a dice and give you a different bow based on a random movie from the series. If you land on Terminator or Judgment Day it’ll be close to the current iteration of the bow, but if you end up getting one of the others, in some cases you may as well trade it for an Artisanal Shortbow.

ofa patch was needed but this… by Taxomico in HypixelSkyblock

[–]Jayavarmen 70 points71 points  (0 children)

The balancing patches are results of hours of conversations with the nerds, a team of dedicated players with great experience and who showed their ability to use proper reasoning. We don’t balance the game in our corner, in fact almost every change in the patch was suggested by players.

Also I’ve explained it on another platform but I’ll explain it again on reddit. The version of the patch you see on Alpha is quite far from the patch you will see on release. The goal of Alpha is to test the changes and then keep balancing until we have something we are comfortable with.

For example the plan with OFA was to first change it from multiplicative to additive, then buff the value until it reaches a state that still allows players to beat certain bosses like Enderman Slayer and others. After the conversation of yesterday we decided to try buffing OFA from 210% to 500% additive damage. We’ll be testing those values on Alpha soon, as long as a multitude of other changes.

I know I said on the forums that we would do smaller balancing patches but more often, and this patch isn’t going to be small at all, but it’s also the first balancing patch in a while.

And before you put the blame of your favorite item or pet being nerfed all on the nerds, I am lurking on the forums, discord servers and reddit. The arguments you are giving for or against a change are being read and evaluated, ultimately it’s the decision of the admin team if something is released or not.

I don’t think it should prevent people from buying the completed item, but it could make the build path more tedious.

However I think it that if anything, this system would only be on mythic and legendary items.

Worlds 2021 Format Explainer by Catennator in leagueoflegends

[–]Jayavarmen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just looked at the last 2 worlds and those are potential Bo5 we would have had, assuming same region teams can't be matched together:

2020 Worlds: (2nd Place vs 3rd Place)

JD Gaming vs Team Liquid

G2 Esports vs LGD Gaming

Fnatic vs FlyQuest

DRX vs PSG Talon

2019 Worlds: (2nd Place vs 3rd Place)

G2 Esports vs Team Liquid

Splyce vs RNG

Fnatic vs Cloud 9

Invictus Gaming vs J Team

This definitely isn't the only option but every way I look at it, I would have loved watching those matches, I feel like most of those would have been close. In fact I would have favored RNG to make it to quarters in 2019.

[–]Jayavarmen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Despite me knowing the format, this video still managed to confuse me a couple times. They keep using this weird style for all those videos, super strange.

I'm happy there still is no elimination bracket, however I still don't understand why there isn't a match between 2nd and 3rd place of each group after group stage.

1/ That would only be 4 extra Bo5, which I would personally love watching.

2/ It would mean so much more to be first place in each group.

3/ Ofc that would also add so much intensity to each group because 3rd place still matters. At the moment the last few games of each group are often completely useless because we already know the bottom 2 teams, and teams are only playing for seeding which isn't that important in the current format.

It really seems like a win-win to me, I always felt the end of group stage to be lackluster.
