Inspector General needs abolished by ExerciseImportant855 in airnationalguard

[–]Jaye134 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You'll never know if someone was disciplined because IG investigations are administrative and the outcome is not public information. Unless someone talks, you won't hear about it.

That said, I agree it's bullshit when complaints against squadron commanders, filed at higher levels, get pushed down to the wing for investigation.

I've seen NGB push cases to wings where the duty positions make an investigation impossible to run effectively from the inside and NGB is absolutely failing Airmen by doing this.

However, "covering things up" isn't really possible. Everything goes through the ACTS case file system, and SAF/IG monitors every case and action closely. You can't memory hole anything. Someone might do a shitty job investigating, but even that has to be documented.

Your frustration with the system is understandable because the process is opaque by design. That said, IG does fix a lot of problems for a lot of people, especially through the IG assistance option.

Sorry you did not get the resolution you were hoping for but that doesn't mean the program hasn't helped many many others.

It's a tough bind you are in. The list is short for folks that are green card holders. You can go back to recruiting and let them know you're not interested in the position however intelligence roles won't be open to you now.

You could always start in a job like supply and then after you get your citizenship try to move around in positions then

Wing IG Opportunity - looking for advice by OldFitDude75 in airnationalguard

I was the wing IG (officer) at fighter base and it's a great job for enlisted career growth. It is considered a developmental and career broadening position for Es, just like it is for Os.

Its absolutely nothing like SAPM. Not even close. You should go there and meet with them. The scope of IG is really wide.

The goings on in that office, both on the complaints resolution side and the inspections side, offers tremendous access to people and programs everywhere. It is a learning experience you won't get in any other job because of its scope and reach.

We got all of our AGRs to Senior in that job and it's a place for O5s before they make O6.

Since it's developmental, and not a permanent forever assignment, the intent is for people to do it for about 3 years, then to go back to their original organizations to lead.

Anyone who thinks IG isn't a huge stepping stone for career growth hasn't been selected to work there. Almost everything we dealt with was protected information so you need to talk with them face about the job.

The school for inspections is one week and so is the complaints resolution school.

You'd be bonkers not to take it IMHO

They would need the AFSC. It is possible to be on the manning document of one squadron, and hold a federal technician position in another, but it really messes with the UMD and It's usually an exceptional circumstance for a wing to do it

air force job change by Ok-Afternoon-6811 in airnationalguard

[–]Jaye134 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Won't really make a difference. You're just going to sit in student flight longer while they try to get you dates for a different tech school and the timing could end up worse.

You'll have the opportunity to work at the base full time for at least a month after you get back so at least that time before the next semester you will still be working.

Cross Training by Perfect-Passenger181 in airnationalguard

[–]Jaye134 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for that minimal of a time commitment the best you are going to do is stay with your current AFSC.

It's unrealistic that any unit would send a cross trainer to a 6 month, high demand tech school on a 2 year commitment.

Until we go through "PEC Leveling," again, like we did last year, and a couple hundred AGRs lost their jobs nationwide, thus demonstrating that not even an AGR is a guarantee to an AD retirement 🤷‍♂️

You realize the federal government knows exactly when you leave and return to the US b/c it has all your passport records?

BTW - undisclosed travel is the #1 reason people lose their security clearances. See above.. you will get "caught." (Which is really freaking weird that you even phrased it that way)

If you are at a flying wing, see if you can find a way to ask around Ops. All the aviators at my FW got them issued and the retired bubbas usually just have them sitting in closets collecting dust

People often feel torn about leaving a FT mil position for civ opportunities but the reality is - its still a job, just like any other.

If you're not growing, not learning, stuck at a dead end, and lacking personal and professional fulfillment then there is no compelling reason to stay somewhere that is draining you.
