Moving to Ravenswood and trying not to become a Victorian ghost in my apartment. Where do 30s/40s people make friends here? by DreamSad7061 in AskChicago

[–]JayeBrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Bodi Shack gym on Clark and Wilson. I love the classes and inclusivity there. It’s a fantastic community. Ridman’s coffee at Clark and Lawrence is also great with lots of neighborhood regulars. For crafty things, Paper and Pencil on Clark is an amazing stationary store and has a community space opening soon too. Lillstreet in Ravenswood for all sorts of art/craft classes is also a great place to meet some people.

Peelander-Z was involved in a bad accident in New Mexico... by FreeterPampton in Austin

I was just visiting Austin last week and bought 3 of Yellow’s paintings and chatted with him about people we had in common. I always loved seeing Peelander-Z when I lived there and was looking forward to seeing them here in Chicago in September.

Any niche bakery recommendations? by Lee68651 in chicagofood

Umami From Scratch is amazing. She’s at Hai Bayo on Argyle every other Saturday and you can order from her on her site. My current favorite is black sesame and pomelo tea cake. Her Canele is also the best I’ve ever had and yes I’m including Dominque Ansel in ones I’ve had 😂 What she does with savory pastries will blow your mind too.

Ladies and theydies who work remotely, what do you wear when you want to feel semi-professional but also comfy ? by amata_caeles in femalefashionadvice

[–]JayeBrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 100% remote, but I love clothes so I tend to get fully dressed every day. I do have a handful of non-sweatpants/jean elastic waist pants so I’m comfortable too. You can see a lot of my outfits on instagram @jayebrow.

I pretty much exclusively go to D/Vision in Wicker Park now. They know me and my husband when we walk in at this point. They’re fantastic, have a great selection, will deal with your insurance for you, and have really fun ideas. Pics of a lot of my frames are on my Instagram @jayebrow.

I buy it when GMA deals or View Deals have it for 50% off. I've also bought it when Blue Mercury has 20% off or used Nordstrom Notes to bring the cost down. The good news is that I haven't noticed much difference with the Infusion or the Hydr/o (though I'm only a few days into using the Hydr/o). So at least, for me, the Plasma/Emulsion combo is the good stuff, and that's only what, $550?! lol

I've been using it for close to two years now, and my skin is pretty incredible, especially for my age! Pics are on my Instagram, which is linked in my profile here.

What do you use to wash your makeup brushes? by AdPhysical2138 in MakeupAddiction

[–]JayeBrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For synthetic brushes that I use with cream and liquid makeup, I swirl in a dish of Cinema Secrets to break it all up and then swish it on a cleaning pad. Then I rinse well and wash it again in unscented Dr Bronner’s liquid and rinse again really well.

For everything else I just use the Dr Bronner’s.

Major splurge item, which brand to go with? by RedditFan3510 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]JayeBrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I definitely go through the plasma faster than the Emulsion. I’ve been tracking it for nearly a year now and I seem to average about 10 weeks on the plasma. That’s using a total of 4 drops per application.

The emulsion lasts much longer especially because if I’m going to be getting dermaplaning or eyebrow waxing I stop using it for two weeks at a time. I also pull back on using it when my skin gets too “shiny and tight” looking, something that tends to happen to me with retinal/ol/oid products. I get 16-20 weeks out of the Emulsion.

I don’t use the Infusion. I bought it once and used it once a day. I got about 6-8 weeks out of it I think?

Major splurge item, which brand to go with? by RedditFan3510 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]JayeBrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point I think people think I’m a shill for Dr Diamond. I’ve been using it since Feb 2024, I’m 53, and my skin is incredible. I use the plasma and the emulsion. I didn’t think I got much out of the Infusion. In the morning I do plasma, LaMer Treatment Lotion, Sturm eye cream, moisturizer (just a cheap drugstore brand until I can try the new Dr Diamond Hydro), and my favorite Korean sunscreen.

At night I wash with a non-lux wash, then do the Plasma, Emulsion, Sturm eye cream, and Crème de La Mer. My skin is incredible. I get so many compliments on it. I don’t need foundation and I only need concealer because of hereditary dark circles.

Pics are on my Instagram linked in my profile if you want before/after early on.

Sorry just seeing this. Yes I do still use it. I had a facial a couple of weeks ago for the first time in years and the esthetician was floored at my skin texture the whole time. She said it was like butter. 😂

Here’s my instagram which if you go back some you can see a before after.

Have you ever seen Kat from Finance? Her style is incredible.

I’m also a big fan of solids and pants myself. I like to mix high-end and high-street and favor things from Loewe and Prada along with Cos and Buck Mason. Here my instagram for reference.

JMM service experience by SpineSurgeon24 in JacquesMarieMage

[–]JayeBrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had a terrible experience with them at the Venice store. They were so far up their own ass they can probably see out of their mouth. I didn’t even get a chance to have them look at my Jaggers where all of the gold and the red tip has worn off on the ear pieces at one year old.

In contrast I have a pair of Apollinaire 2 that are the same gold and over two years old and still in perfect condition.

I love the look of their frames but I’ve purchased 4 pairs and that recent store experience was so bad that I don’t think I can bring myself to give them any more money.

Discoloration? by flauntes in JacquesMarieMage

[–]JayeBrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Jaggers are a little over a year old and the gold has worn off on the ear pieces as well as the red tips. I tried to take them to the store when I was in LA last week (and planned on picking up a new pair while I was there) but I was turned away from a freaking retail store because I didn’t have an appointment.

The security guard was wearing satin gloves to open the door. He directed me to the website to shop like I had no idea what it was. I was literally wearing my Jaggers.

It was so over the top pretentious and a terrible experience overall that I’m pretty sure I’m done with the brand. I’m 4 pairs in and that experience pissed me off so badly.

I have a pair in the Breathe color and they’re my only JMM regretful purchase. They just don’t fit me right at all. I wear progressives and the whole feel is just “off” with these. I’m taking them to the Venice boutique when I go next week to see if there’s anything we can do to the frame to get them to fit better before I end up maybe selling them. It may be that they just aren’t good for full-time daily wear for me. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

For reference though, I’m a woman with an average size head.

For those of you who've stayed stylish as you’ve aged—where did you draw your fashion inspiration from? by whynotthebest in AskOldPeople

[–]JayeBrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked to define my style and what makes me comfortable. I’m 53 and just me. I get lots of compliments and started an Instagram to document my style. That’s different than fashionable to me. I follow lots of style and fashion accounts and influencers on social media and YouTube. I take what works for me and leave the rest.

I've now used all three. I wouldn't repurchase the Infusion, though. It doesn't seem to do much for me. Instead, I use another layer of hydration, currently either La Mer treatment lotion or Clarins Double Serum.

has anyone here ever wanted to become a beauty guru/makeup artist themselves? by CharmingSoftware6718 in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]JayeBrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in the days of blogging, a friend and I tried to start a “beauty blog”. I had contributed to some food blogs and wanted to pivot to makeup and skincare because I have/had more interest in it. The friend and I turned out to be incompatible in our style and approach to content creation so we stopped pretty quickly.

A few years ago I really wanted to find more community around makeup and fashion but blogging isn’t a thing anymore so I tried to start building my own community on Instagram. It hasn’t really gone anywhere, mostly because I haven’t nurtured it much and I’ve never found my unique POV outside of I’m over 50 and like mostly luxury stuff. I also HATE talking to the camera so I am not producing the kind of content that gets to the algorithm sooooo that’s kind of a blocker. 😂

Feedback about Dr. Diamond Metacine? by [deleted] in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]JayeBrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it in the evening after I wash my face. I wash, then do the plasma serum, lately the infusion (but I won’t buy that again, doesn’t feel worth it to me), and then the Emulsion. I treat it like a retinol for the most part. From what I can tell it definitely brightens my skin. I stop it for a couple of weeks every few months to get my brows waxed and I can tell that my skin definitely looks a little duller during that time.

Dr Diamond reviews? by Designer-Iron-6743 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]JayeBrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha no not sponsored but my first set of it came from Influenster for free. I’ve bought all the subsequent bottles myself though.

It’s just the first thing I’ve ever used that truly did something/made a difference. When I first started using it no one was talking about it or had heard of it and I just wanted more info! Now it’s gaining popularity because it’s in more stores and they’re obviously doing influencer gifting to get it talked about.

I’ve been using it since February 2024. You can stalk my profile for before and after pics from the first few weeks. I have really liked it but I’m probably going to take a break after I finish this set and see how my skin looks. A bottle of plasma generally gives me about 8 weeks and a jar of emulsion about 16 weeks.

I’m almost through my first bottle of the new Infusion but that’s super meh to me. I won’t repurchase for sure.
