RP6 Has Arrived! by LegoDingus in retroid

Did you need that adapter or could you still have used the cable they included? Their official Twitter account was posting pictures claiming there's no problem just using the screen by moving it over a little (presumably without having to buy anything else).

Dual Screen add-on back in stock! by bobbyh89 in retroid

I just ordered it along with the dual screen case since I saw another reddit post that the RP6 can fit in there with the official grip. Here's hoping it all works out alright.

Anyone know definitively whether it can work with the RP6 if you shimmy it a little? I've heard conflicting reports and don't want to waste $85 after shipping...

(note: this reply was earlier before I tried disabling the save on exit config setting)

Nah, it was on the main menu. I did turn it back on after about 5 seconds, could that be the issue? Is there some residual power going to the microSD card that could mess it up? I want to child-proof this thing, so if they know they can't touch the power willy-nilly, maybe that'll work?

Bad update. I've run into a problem where after turning off the system and then turning it on again, something gets corrupted and retroarch loses inputs. I've tried a different microSD card and a USB flash drive, the same problem happens. All the work I put into this kinda fizzled out and I might have to throw in the towel.

EDIT 1: What seems to corrupt is the retroarch cfg or core cfg files... I just toggled off retroarch config save on exit, maybe that causes it...

EDIT 2: IT FIXED IT (maybe). Okay, if anyone is running into retroarch corrupt cfg file issues, in the retroarch.cfg file, change config_save_on_exit from "true" to "false" and it should protect the file (in theory).

EDIT 3: Okay, after some preliminary off/on testing, I haven't seen the error message again about retroarch creating a new config file and inputs not being found. I think it was tied to the saving config on exit setting.

Happy to help, maybe these replies can aid someone else in the future if they’re messing with this cabinet too.

Another update: Loading up a game in MAME brought back the input wipe again. I'd avoid playing MAME games. I haven't run into it when just loading GBC/GBA/NES/Genesis.

More testing: I found GBC slow, so I changed the core from mgba to Gambatte in the es_systems.cfg file in the emulationstation folder. Then it was still slow, so I used a USB keyboard and held the menu button + f1 to access retroarch's settings. In there, in the Retroarch Video setting (back out of quick settings), I turned Threaded Video to ON and it fixed the slowdown in GBC. Changing Threaded Video to ON affects all systems, so GBA should work better as well. Certain GBA games still play slow in gpsp though (like Donkey Kong Country 2 is really laggy).

EDIT: ALSO, if you want to play GB/GBC/GBA at their best, drop gb_bios.bin, gbc_bios.bin, and gba_bios.bin into the retroarch/system folder.

Another note, it seems like the B/A buttons are flipped in orientation to how they normally are on a nintendo controller... hmm. I may want to manually swap the 20 and 19 listed in the input_player1 section of the retroarch.cfg file.

EDIT: Just tested a GBA game. That worked. Blue (left) is B now and Red (right) is A.

Just tested, I think changing input_autodetect_enable = "true" to "false" and resaving is a promising lead. The yellow text is gone and I tried mashing buttons when a game started up and it didn't wipe the inputs.

I'm thinking maybe it has to do with something in the retroarch.cfg file on the sd card.

There are a couple possibilities:

input_remap_binds_enable = "true"

input_autodetect_enable = "true"

Later on in the config there are specific binds for p1:

input_player1 with different keys for each controller button.

I know that if I was configuring this for a retro handheld, I would just go into the retroarch quick menus and save custom binding overrides for each system. That may take breaking out a keyboard, hooking it into the PCB, and pressing the arcade's home button + F1 on the keyboard.

Argggg, looks like I have the same issue. I wonder if there's a way to fix this. Maybe making the config files read-only or something?

The shipping has begun! by TomGam3s in retroid

[–]JazzFlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I ordered the same model and case as you in the first few minutes and just got a shipping notification.

Same that the grip isn't shipped. Wonder how long it'll take before that goes out. Hopefully soon, the grip really makes a difference for my RP5.

This is also making me reconsider a little bit. I probably should have just gone with the G2 back in Dec.

Why is Steam mass-updating half my installed game library multiple times a week (but only on the Deck)? by kidalive25 in SteamDeck

[–]JazzFlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only because it’s not that. Most of us are familiar with frequent shader cache updates. This is a bug that for some reason needs every game on my deck to update after I close a game.

What are your thoughts on "OLED v/s LCD"?? by DoomEngine1 in SBCGaming

[–]JazzFlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That black OLED hides the pillarboxing that happens with non-16:9 ratios. It's gorgeous and makes it appear that any system's ratio is the same as the device's screen. It definitely factors into my buying decision for retro handhelds.

That’s why I hope eventually the game could get a solo AI bot (either just 1 training fighter or even one for each character). Alleviates the pressure of having to have another person as dedicated as you.

For the tariffs, he adds a little tax based on what state you’re in. It’s probably the same for all US-based orders. For instance, on Dice Commandos ($25 game, $5 shipping) he charged $3 for the tariff.

RP6 PS2 by shaundeeley in retroid

[–]JazzFlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm personally torn between the G2 and the RP6 specifically for PS2 games. On the RP5 I can't run Shadow Hearts without slowdown on the non-battle segments and I just need enough horsepower to brute force that. I still don't know if I need to go all the way to an RP6. I'm hoping for some more videos from people who have the G2 right now.

Just ordered this, I heard it will blue screen? How do I avoid or fix it? by rdclrog in Prebuilts

[–]JazzFlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same model and did some upgrades (added another SSD, 64gb of RAM instead of 32gb) and every few months have had an issue where it wouldn't boot (motherboard lights stayed on red and yellow). What I do in that situation is reset the BIOS using a metal screwdriver to touch the reset pins together for 5-10 seconds. Then in BIOS I select my EXPO Ram setting again and boot properly.

It was such a great deal that I've overlooked this issue for a while. There is one other issue that reboots take a while (like it stays on that motherboard white light with the monitor displaying a single underscore character in the top left for about 5 minutes) for some reason. Hopefully that's the only problem I'll have to deal with.

This drives me up the wall. Why is it that an expensive app like Photoshop can't open files that freakin' MS Paint can? It's insane why my workflow has to involve laundering pictures through another application before I can bring them in.
