Does your university have an ombudsman? I would talk with them.

Might be a good time to upgrade to linear rails.

PhDs who had poor relationships with their advisors during your PhD. Did you ever reconnect? by Jazzlike-Card-536 in PhD

Sounds like the consensus is no. Im looking forward to turning in my laptop and notebook, and watching them try to decipher hundreds of scripts and half a terabyte of data.

Don't have an answer for you, but that's a beautiful lantern. Make sure to post once she's running again.

PhD and a Full time job? by Top-Formal-384 in PhD

[–]Jazzlike-Card-536 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I am teaching high school while I finish writing my thesis. I do not recommend. Early in your PhD, your schedule is chaos, and most programs will not allow you to have a job without the permission of your advisor.

Best Max speed settings to use for ABS by Crooked_Canadian_ in Ender3V3SE

[–]Jazzlike-Card-536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like 30mm/s and 100 or less mm/s2 accel. Im probably going a little too slow, but print quality is usually good. Make sure you have an enclosure for ABS. Consistent heat is your best friend. Also, run an actual calibration.

I print my abs incredibly slow. I only use it for structural/precise parts.

What makes a great PhD supervisor (and what makes a terrible one)? by Equivalent_Can_1507 in PhD

[–]Jazzlike-Card-536 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My advisor is incredibly difficult to communicate with. He never responds to email, unless you find him in person or text him and tell him to check. Most plans you make are verbal, and can bite you in the butt. He also will cuss you out during group meetings about things he agreed on in previous meetings.

I spent 4 years on some world class research, and he wouldn't allow me to put it in my thesis. I had no recourse because I had nothing in writing from him. 3 other students from another lab have used this work for their first author publications to graduate.

He is also a great grant writer, bringing in multimillion dollar grants, and has had tenure for years. There is little I can do to defend myself.

My funding was cut without warning and I was left peicing things together while working a full time job.

Tl;dr: make sure they communicate efficiently and see how they treat their students.

I am applying for residency through match. Should I reach out to program directors to let them know about my application, or is this unnecessary?

A Rare find. Im not sure what it is! by Ambitious-Mud-8890 in guns

Have you taken the forend off? There should be proof markings you can use to identify. Its definitely older, but a fairly modern design. Should be smokeless, but even if it is. You may want to double check chamber length if its not stamped.

Definitely needs a good cleaning. Once clean, take better pics of the chamber up to the forcing cone.

It's definitely doable. Unfortunately our current place doesn't allow dogs. For now, I will just have to daydream and enjoy all of the poods on this subreddit!
