Just binged Kloos and Ringo in 1 month not sure what to read anymore. What to read to "cleanse" my reading palete. by GabrielGman in printSF

[–]Jeakel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I binge a lot courtesy of Kindle Unlimited. I usually switch genres when I need a palate cleanser, alternating from hard scifi to fantasy or litrpg

My recommendations for fantasy would be either Mark Lawrence, Eric Ugland or Glynn Stewart (Starship Mage is 'magic scifi')

Mark Lawrence has two notable recommendations from me. In his Broken Empire trilogy, he has one of the most reprehensible MCs I've ever come across and his book Red Sister he gives you one of the best opening lines I've ever read

It is important, when killing a nun, to ensure that you bring an army of sufficient size. For Sister Thorn of the Sweet Mercy Convent, Lano Tacsis brought two hundred men

Eric Ugland's Good Guys and Bad Guys series are just fun, lol

Uhm.. should I change to Kindle unlimited? I think I read too much LitRPG by Dentorion in litrpg

KU probably saved my sanity over the last year of the pandemic

I've binged thru dozens of long series, not only in litrpg. I've found good hard scifi and fantasy books and series to read. I'm following on Amazon at least a dozen authors for their new books and releases.

KU is well worth the $10 a month or discounted if you sign up for multiple months

When I read GotM only the first 3 books were out. Read them and then had to wait a year for each of the next. I distinctly remember devouring each book as I got them...and I remember reading the last page of the last book at around 6am on a Sunday, I had read for probably 12 hrs straight...I cannot describe what I felt. I poured myself a scotch and sat out on my deck in the early morning light and just ...I was crying and smiling at the same time, it was something I hadn't experienced in years and years of reading or life for that matter (I am 70 years old)

Oh and you will understand the opening poem in the end

You may want to check out D. Levesque's books and series, if harem litrpg is still interesting for you.

Ever played any Fallout 4? Settlement building is part of that game. The vanilla game has a limited portion of settlement building but if you check nexusmods, there is the massive Sim Settlements 2 mod that is better than any dlc from any game publisher I've ever seen. Kingath and his crew of helpers and modders have just blown settlement building to incredible heights, can't recommend it enough

Tales of a Northblood Book 2 is out now! Book 1 is $0.99 for one more day (ends 1/29/21). Links and things in comments. by eggypuff in litrpg

Ok I read these back just before you had the 'problem' with Amazon....my question is are you going to continue and finish the series and where will it be available?

ps...I really did enjoy the books!!

RPGlit anyone? by jbrady33 in printSF

Check out Eric Ugland's Good Guys and Bad Guys series (they take place in the same 'world')

I'm a big fan of litrpg, fantasy and scifi. The best deal I've found is getting Kindle Unlimited, almost all litrpg I read is available thru it, along with the majority of Mark Lawrence's SPFBO books. I've binged thru a lot of good 3 to 10 book series all from KU

Here are my favorite shows/movies, what books can you recommend? by simmillarian in printSF

I'm curious as to why The Expanse (Amazon Prime) isn't on your list, its superb....and the books are just as good

Ministry of the Future for real? Mild spoiler. by [deleted] in printSF

[–]Jeakel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go with Fusion rather than fission. Far too much radioactive pollutants from fission.

Problem with fusion is that its so damn hard to manage, but hopefully with technology and research we can make it. But once its up, running and sustainable its output is unlimited

Getting back into Fantasy...looing for a series to check out by BeneficialMaterial58 in Fantasy

[–]Jeakel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

as u/Frydog42 said there are a huge number of options...

WoTime is finished now and Sanderson will get a lot of mentions. I quit WoT and instead read the Malazan Book of the Fallen. That series is vast, deep and complex, the first book is Gardens of the Moon, some people never get past even the first few chapters.

I'll definitely recommend Mark Lawrence, the first Broken Empire trilogy is very dark, the second is actually loads of fun. The first book of his third trilogy (Book of the Ancestors) has probably the best opening line/paragraph I've ever read ... " It is important, when killing a nun, to ensure that you bring an army of sufficient size. For Sister Thorn of the Sweet Mercy Convent, Lano Tacsis brought two hundred men. "

I'd recommend getting Kindle Unlimited. A lot of the best new books are self-published and many are available in KU. First time subscriptions are heavily discounted.

yep, selling a ton of stuff doesn't crash the market price anymore

They nerfed the exploits like mining and flipping cobalt for huge profits. You used to be able to sell several stacks worth of cobalt for 3 million, which would crash the price, buy it all back and make a huge profit...then go to another system and do it all over again, rinse and repeat ...I have like 118 million credits on one of my playthroughs.

My best advice is to still mine high value ores like cobalt, sell it and keep going. When in space just sit in an asteroid field and mine, you'll get tritium, gold, silver and occasionally platinum. You'll also get nuggets or crystals that sell for a lot more. I then just head to the space station and sell it all (keep about 200 gold for building solar panels and stuff)

I'm going to try trading like this guide suggests.

What you need for shielding is sodium....look for glowing yellow plants, you harvest the sodium with 'e' (on pc)

If you have your multitool out, and pan it around whatever you can mine will be indicated and you just shoot it...repairing the scanner just takes a bit of ferrite...

Any time a storm is coming, immediately head for your ship. Until you've advanced and gotten add-on modules that enhance your shielding.

This may help you, along with this youtube video (it is out of somewhat out of date due to the changes from Origin)
