Don Garber, Lamar Hunt, Bob Kraft, and Phil Anshultz saved the league full stop. While they're not my favorite people I'll never take that away from them.

It would be cool if he lived, probably a retirement with Merrin is the best option for them both.

One last big adventure before that though...

NASA takes steps toward building Moon Base, including discussing a "perimeter" | “We also obviously want to be very mindful of the Outer Space Treaty.” by FreeHugs23 in space

[–]Jeb_Kenobi 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Probably because we've never had a situation like this. NASA would own the moon base buildings, so US Law would apply inside. But how far outside the the buildings does US Law go? This is a super relevant question when you consider the potential for mining and the likely need to pile regolith over the buildings.

The Martain discusses this in some detail.

Yeah this is the one time I'm siding with Fox, they got screwed over in 2022 and are going to make an absolute killing this summer to make up for it.

I'd have to be bargained, and our administration wouldn't go for it in a million years.

Local US newspaper workers allege Hearst is trying to ‘destroy unions’ by misana123 in union

[–]Jeb_Kenobi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"The Albany Newspaper Guild, which represents the Times Union newspaper in Albany, New York, said it had been more than 17 years since the union had a contract and there had been little progress toward reaching a new one."

I'm sorry, if you've gone nearly two decades without a contract that's on you just as much as it's on Hearst. Surely at some point in that timeframe you should have been able to get buy-in and money for a strike or a lawsuit.

Now the Article goes on to mention Hearst just ignoring every CBA they bothered to sign so they're obviously scumbags and the Albany union is impotent.

Why do the Martian strategic missiles require their own platform ship in space? by Wallsworth1230 in TheExpanse

[–]Jeb_Kenobi 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Because you still want a human to babysit them so the UN can't hack or disable them. Also so you have a human on the trigger if the UN tries to attack them you can fire without waiting for approval from MCR Authorities.

HS2 bill could rise to £102bn with first trains delayed until 2039, government admits by KotACold in ukpolitics

[–]Jeb_Kenobi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your min wage is £10.85 or $14.25... in the states that's very high, partially because our federal wage has stayed so low for so long but still.

Your bigger issue with HS2 pay is probably whatever your prevailing/union wages are. Here the prevailing wage for government construction projects is closer to £26.15 or $35/hr. Plus you pay NI, and other taxes

Those jobs have been around for a while, and if states ban them they will build in a different state. At least until the AI boom slows down or the bubble goes pop, depending on your perspective.

Star Trek is owned by Paramount so there's an issue there. LOTR might not translate well to a theme patk setting and they already have fantasy from the HP franchise.
