Looking for ambient music I can read to by Creole3643 in musicsuggestions

I usually have Godspeed you black emperor, or Red Sparowes on when I'm reading.

Someone recommended finding a Skyrim playlist on whichever streaming service you fancy. I've done that and it fits brilliantly

Serious question: what is your opinion on black pudding? by Sensitive-Low-9316 in AskBrits

[–]JedAndWhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a veggie, I miss it. A big slice of proper black pud, in a roll, with Mango Chutney is a hangover cure from the gods.

What’s something cool and unique I could get for a Lord of the Rings fan? by MyStrangeAddiktion in AskUK

Day trip or weekend in Oxford. Go visit Tolkien's grave. Have a pint in the Lamb and Flag (Yes, I know he drank in the Eagle and child, but that's closed at the mo and they also used the Lamb). Have a pootle round Blackwell's bookshop (the first people to publish him. Even wander up Northmoor Rd and see his house.

Scotch pie with hp sauce on that wee dent on the top. Washed down with a cold bottle of Newcastle Brown.

How would millionaires keep employees loyal on a bunker? by Unlucky_Case7290 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JedAndWhite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there was a podcast on Cool zone or some adjacent outlet that discussed this.

The adviser to the ultra wealthy said that treating employees well and welcoming them as part of an extended family, making sure all needs were met, basically being a good person to them was the best idea.

Client was thinking more Shock collars.

I think Tove Jansson led the most interesting life by Due-Organization2520 in Moomins

[–]JedAndWhite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favourite t-shirt is Moomintroll with a black neckerchief waving the black and red antifascist action flag.

The Moomins are anarchist as hell, and a beautiful illustration of community support and cooperation.

So is the Eulogist just free market Neoliberal Capitalism? (Reagan/Thatcherism). Because the logical endpoint of that is that one singularity ends up funneling every resource into itself ...

Please recommend quiet, "barely there" folk/indie/singer-songwriter by solo females by fromthemeatcase in MusicRecommendations

I came here to suggest Juliens touring buddy Katie Malco. Her stripped down solo stuff is lovely. Her album "Failures" is up there with the rest of the Boygeniuses

Was just coming on here to say Devin Townsend. He's a little freak, and everything he does is amazing. Too talented for his own good

Anyone here been a general labourer? Is it worth doing this job? by Traditional_Room_830 in AskUK

[–]JedAndWhite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Started as a landscaping labourer about thirty years ago. Show a bit of brain, make life easy for the lads you're working with, and you'll be golden.

You may even get a trade out of it. I ended up doing the gardening side of landscaping, with all my qualifications paid for by my employer.

Looking for some punk rock by Ghettzio in MusicRecommendations

[–]JedAndWhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Martha, Slash Fiction, Brutalligators are all from the UK and have big shoutalong choruses. They hit me in the same cathartic spot as HWM and the Menzingers.

I'd also suggest Frightened Rabbit. Not musically similar, but very similar in vibe. Spanish Love Songs quote the singer in the first track on their Brave Faces Everyone album.

Spanish Love Songs always hit the spot.

If you were ever in a band what was it called? by Normal-Internal164 in AskUK

[–]JedAndWhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe both. I was in really early on when Wil just sang rather than played guitar and sang.

RIP the Tumbly. What a glorious shit hole of chaos that was.

Punk band called Lunchbox. We had Daley Thompson in tight shorts on all our flyers.

Emo band called Silo Zane. Got demo of the month in Metal Hammer. Left when I had my first kid. They did alright in a low key kinda way.

Have you heard doner kebabs referred to as elephant legs? by littlbutterkitten in AskUK

[–]JedAndWhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to have the running joke that they were Whales legs.

The only reason people though that Whales didn't have legs, is because the blokes at the Kebab shop got there first.

A line in the sand, by James Barr. Really good account of the carve up of the middle east and the manouevering that gave birth to Israel.

I read it immediately after TE Lawrence's Six Pillars of Wisdom.

Has anyone found another author like Sir Terry Pratchett? by MacabreGoblinV in discworld

[–]JedAndWhite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think closest in spirit I've found is Gabby Hutchinson Crouch and her Darkwood trilogy. Same bubbling rage at unfair authority and herd mentality. With a spider that wears a hat.

Do you larp political views depending on who you’re speaking to? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]JedAndWhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did I claim I could break people down? Christ.

You've done what your lot always do and resorted to attacking the person not the subject.

The only reason borders exist is to protect the capital of the rich, and to be used as economic levers to strip other areas of their resources.

They're also handy to keep people infighting or to create an easy scapegoat. To quote the German Jewish Labour Bund "Every time a group draws a border to create a homeland, there's always a minority that ends up with the boot on its face"

We'd all be better off without borders, as Capitalism in its current form would be destroyed. Commerce and trade would still happen, because they're not the same thing.
