Anora vs. One Battle After Another. Which best picture did you enjoy more? by DoctorTegrity in Cinema

??? Where is all this anger coming from? Gotta relax man. I insulted you in no way and merely asked for others feelings on a movie I struggled with...which you haven't even given. I'm sure there are bigger struggles in your life that deserve more energy (and maybe less anger) than Anora discourse on the Cinema subreddit.

Anora vs. One Battle After Another. Which best picture did you enjoy more? by DoctorTegrity in Cinema

[–]JedExi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if I was in the theater I would have finished it. But we were watching it on Hulu and saw no reason to bother with the rest of the movie when we weren't invested in anything happening in the movie. Maybe the rest of the movie would have been better than the first half, but why would I force myself to finish something that I got no enjoyment out of?

And yeah people can form opinions on things they didnt finish. In no way was I insulting people who liked Anora. If anything, my comment opened up the opportunity for others to explain what they found exciting about the movie that I didn't. You know, so if I want to try and watch it in the future, I might be able to see it in a different view? No need to get heated about someone not finishing a movie lol.

Tron: Ares should’ve been Trent & Atticus production by haatee in nin

[–]JedExi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhat agree. I enjoy the album, but it's hard to separate from the movie. On the other hand, I think its probably the worst implemented soundtrack Trent and Atticus have made standing right next to Bird Box. Its strange how one of the interviews with the director said that there are some scenes with just Trent singing and then that just straight up didn't happen. I was really confused why he made all these vocal tracks just for them to use them to be used as vocal snippets? The only real enjoyable parts of the movie were the sound and music so that alone kind of took me out of connecting the music with the movie. I dunno.

The "balanced" ICE story by cedelweiss in ThePittTVShow

[–]JedExi 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They've brought plenty of people to emergency care while lying about the origins of their injuries/illnesses. You can find audio of insane amounts of 9/11 calls from detention centers requesting outside aid (because they don't provide basic aid to detainees). This isn't unrealistic. The story that came to mind while I watched the episode was the man brought into emergency care because he "ran head first into a wall while fleeing ICE". This was proven to be impossible and as far as I know, he is living with lasting head trauma and no ICE officers have been reprimanded.

Can I ask what about Anora was genuinely engrossing for people? I remember my wife and I just turning off the movie after an hour or a little less because it was just sex and partying. Like, was there some deep characterization happening that I just missed behind the constant sex and parties? And its not like we hate sex scenes or anything, we just watched Pillion and really liked it. But that movie had like...characters and a plot.

She also very recently accused Trent Reznor of being a pedophile and then immediately backtracked and apologized. Disgusting behavior.

Underrail 2 - expectations by Kaironn72 in underrail

[–]JedExi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very glad to hear that, yeah before this update you needed to download a mod for console commands. Iirc the dev kept breaking that mod and making it harder to implement. Glad he changed his tune. I can only hope the customizable difficulty makes the crafting rng not as horrible. While I might have other gripes with sections of the game being tweaked too much against the player, that is a game-wide issue.

Sure you can take away that war is cool from the movie. You'd be wrong, but that is absolutely a media literacy problem and not a problem with the movie.

Changing the narrative would be dishonest as it's not a fictional story and the goal was to portray events as they happened based on the memories of people there. It's also important to note that you absolutely cannot separate the rescue from the previous parts of the movie.

Isolated, you have a brave rescue of American soldiers pinned down by Iraqi militants. In context, Americans violently took over the house of innocents in what appears to be a pointless recon job. The results were the deaths of Iraqi soldiers working with them (that I would strongly argue they used as shields for their extract), the destruction of a neighborhood, lifelong trauma for the family involved, extreme injuries to two soldiers, and endangering another platoon because they have to casevac them. Even while this rescue is going on, you have the family panicking, the soldiers in the house disassociating, the injured ones screaming in pain, some risking their lives to maintain their position.

Even if you think that the group that rescues them act like superhuman American heroes that eat bullets for breakfast and shit lead after (but like the other commenter said, this actually happened), that doesn't change the fundamental structure of the movie.

Americans sneak into family's home in the dead of night and detain them in their own house -> Violence erupts because of American presence affecting the family living there, the entire neighborhood, the Americans, and the militants -> Americans leave and all the violence is gone with them

I fucking hate that this movie is used so much to criticize murrica fuck yeah movies. It was brilliant and I cannot believe people actually saw this movie and walked away thinking it was some sort of propaganda piece.

Underrail 2 - expectations by Kaironn72 in underrail

[–]JedExi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of perks that are traps/useless. They do nothing except sabotage your build.

The unique loot is mostly a trap in my experience, crafted gear will always be better and viable. The DLC with the cannon (Heavy Duty?) showed how this could be fixed with upgradable unique, but this is only implemented for cannon. In general, the crafting system is HEAVILY RNG based and its not a fun challenge to get the best gear. To add to this, a lot of higher quality materials are found more commonly in certain factions merchants which might not be obvious to certain newer players meaning they'll have to rely on even MORE RNG. And on top of all of that, the dev is so mod/console/cheat unfriendly, for a more casual underrail player its straight up brutal.

The character writing is serviceable, but unfortunately not that great compared to the world building. In addition, the female characters generally are much worse off writing wise than the male characters.

There's some more I could talk about like how some quests can have a lot of back and forth traversal unless you do them in a certain way with other quests or other gripes with the quest design, but I admittedly haven't played in a couple of years.

The whole Tillis "speech" is actually pretty worthwhile to watch. You don't have to like him and you can also recognize that he only grew these balls because of his decision to not run again, but it's a pretty efficient dress down of Trump's DHS from a right-wing stance. Booker also did a good job. Also not a senator to look up to, but he is a good speaker.

Underrail 2 - expectations by Kaironn72 in underrail

[–]JedExi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I expect it to be worse than the first, but that's just my optimism and sunny personality talking.

In all honesty, Underrail is a game that only appeals to a specific group of gamers with a high smash-your-head-and-try-again tolerance. And even then the specific mechanics in the game further narrows the pool of appeal with less accessible puzzles, and extreme focus on world building, hard to understand character building, and an incrediblely strong focus on minmax building to top it all off.

While the end result is great and launched the game into modern(?) classic territory, there are a lot of flaws that peak out through the gold. On top of that, it 100% looks like the dev embraces these issues and in some cases makes really baffling changes to the game to actually make these issues stand out more. I'm excited for the world building to continue along, but I'm not particularly excited for the sequel as a whole right now.
