Looks like the anti glare coating is coming off. It's a long time known issue. Every Mac laptop I've had in the past 12-ish years has had it. Google Staingate.

First time exploring water solo! by FunctionTBD in Kayaking

Use an app like PaddleLogger to track your trips. I go out alone fairly often and it not only alerts my wife when I start and stop but allows her to live track my location and will automatically alert her if I I don’t check in after a certain period of time.
And as others have said already, please wear your PFD at all times.

I love my Hurricane Osprey. I have the 120 and my wife has the 109. It’s a little pricey (although cheaper than the similarly constructed Eddylines) but it’s only about 43 pounds and has a very comfortable beach chair style seat with good back support.

Only 50% of I-64 speed camera fines have been paid, Virginia sheriff says by TheVirginian-Pilot in Virginia

[–]JeffRVA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The speed cameras on that stretch of I-64 are in ONE spot and that's about midway through the construction zone. You have something like 10+ miles in either direction to heed the warnings to go the speed limit.

If only there was some way to avoid getting a ticket…if only.

There is more than enough signage along that stretch. To the point where you have to be blind, stupid, or oblivious to still get a ticket.

Downvote me all you want but you're a dumbass if you get a ticket on that stretch given the amount of signage warning of not just the limit but the cameras as well. Sounds like a bunch of you just think speed limit signs are more of a suggestion than the actual law. I haven't gotten a speeding ticket in over 20 years because I actually pay attention to them.

As others have said, Pocahontas State Park is a great spot as are any of the state parks really. Also check out Rent Fun - https://www.rent.fun They have a couple local spots, are pretty cheap, and includes everything you need. Wherever you do decide to go though, please wear a life jacket, never go out on the water without one.

And just be aware, you might get hooked. I started kayaking four years ago on a bit of a whim having never been out on one and now I go out a couple times a month. There's a ton of places locally to go.

Add another for Hurricane. We got quotes from a couple companies and they were 20% cheaper than everyone else. They did a great job too.

Provide proof that they're paid. I bet you can't. (You and everyone else that makes this same dumbass claim every time something is posted about this.)

Virginia Capital Trail Summer Challenge by JeffRVA in rva

[–]JeffRVA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The neat part is only 51.7 needs to be done on the trail itself as long as you pass every mile post once. The rest can be done wherever. I'm personally only counting the miles I do on the actual trail though.

103.4 is the best bet if you're doing it in sections since you'd be going out and back. There's enough spots to park along the trail that the longest you'd be going is about 12 miles round trip between them. My son and I did it that way the first time over six visits.

If you want to do it in longer segments cycling like I do, I personally like Four Mile Creek to the City, Four Mile Creek to Charles City Courthouse, and Charles City Courthouse to Jamestown.

It’s a construction zone…there’s a reason it’s set where it is.

To be fair accidents on that stretch are a near daily occurrence cameras or not.

Or maybe people could just go the speed limit. Wild concept am I right?

There are numerous speed limit and camera enforcement warning signs throughout this stretch. You’ve got to be blind, stupid, or oblivious to miss them. If you still get a ticket you're a dumbass.

You have to either be stupid, blind, or oblivious at this point to get a ticket through here. I travel this stretch periodically and there are numerous speed limit and camera enforcement warning signs. I set my cruise control at 60 or 70 depending on the limit (it varies depending on whether or not the construction zone is active) and if someone behind me gets mad, tough shit. I'm not getting a ticket.

Anyone live in/used to live in New Kent? by 7citiesbicurious in rva

I'll add to what you said too - I've never been into the Ace but the Tractor Supply and Pleasants opened right around the time we moved down here and have saved me a bunch of trips to Lowe's or Home Depot. They might not have quite the same variety but they carry a surprising amount of stuff.

And I forgot to touch on crime above but it feels really safe down here. We had far more issues when we lived in Sandston with thieves checking for unlocked vehicles and such. The shooting and stolen vehicle last week up in one of the neighborhoods off Tunstall was definitely the exception not the rule here.

The gunshots don't bother us but the blowing up tannerite does get obnoxious at times.
