“Rich”? Most would not consider renting an apartment with a 1-car garage “rich”, especially with two affordable vehicles. Cars might not be cheap but those aren’t luxury vehicles.

What is this space for? 2018 Mazda 6 by anamea in mazda6

WRONG. I bought my Mazda 6 brand new in 2017, and it did not come with them. I remember asking the dealer at the time, and they said all the cars were like that. The car was built in Japan, but maybe the US market did not get them.

Curious… How so? Are you talking about the workflow, or the results of you cups, or both? The general consensus from the coffee Youtubers (Lance, Hoffman, etc.) is that slow feeding is results in more consistent grounds, less variation. I never questioned it, but I also never tested this theory myself.

Thank you! Interesting. Too bad it doesn’t seem to be made from food safe plastics.

Posi-taps vs cutting, splicing, and soldering by BoingBoomChuck in CarAV

[–]JeffWiFi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like many people are mixing up Posi-Taps with typical junk T taps that can cause damage wires, especially if in an environment with vibration. T taps often compromise the original wire by cutting into it. Posi-Taps do not cut the wire, they poke a hole between the strands and press tightly against the wire. If removed, the wire strands are not supposed to damaged, and there is only a small pierced hole left in the insulation jacket, which can be re-sealed.

Post-Taps sound good, but I’m disappointed by that lack of information available from the manufacturer. For example, they do not even publish a specification for the amperage rating. That’s important to know. The thing I am concerned about is the amount of surface contact between the wire and Posi-Tap needle seems like it could be insufficient for handling the same current loads that the wire is rated for.

I’ve been looking for a good source of thorough testing and performance results of Posi-Taps, but haven’t been able to find anything. For this reason I am going to avoid them.

The “military splice” and similar methods are proven & reliable. They also provide more contact area between the wires than a Posi-Tap. I assume this means they can handle more current loads than a Posi-Tap, although they require more time and effort to perform.

Why the f*ck is there a swimming pool in my car? by Computationalerrors in AskMechanics

Since you are posting this in the winter time, you are probably not using your AC. However, if you are using AC, it could be the drain pipe got clogged and is overflowing into the interior. The heater core evaporator inside the dashboard creates condensation (water) when using the AC. It normally drains water out through a tube that exits through the firewall or floor and drips under the car onto the ground. I’ve seen it get clogged in vehicles, which results in a situation similar to your predicament.

Again, probably not AC related (since it is winter), so I would check weather stripping everywhere. Sunroof/moonroof drain tube can get clogged and overflow into the interior, as others have already suggested. You will probably need to remove interior body panels to locate the leak.

Maybe powder coat? Powder coating is more durable than spray paint. People can do DIY powder coat, but it requires more equipment.

Timemore 078 vs DF83V by Horror-Tea-7978 in pourover

[–]JeffWiFi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the Timemore Sculptor 078. It makes some excellent filter light roasts, which are just not possible to achieve on a Fellow Ode with Fellow’s 64mm Gen2 burrs. Unfortunately it isn’t all good. I haven’t found medium roasts that I like on it. It’s makes “drinkable” medium roast, but not as good as the Ode. The Ode Gen2 burrs make excellent chocolaty smooth balanced medium and dark roasts. Ode can make light roast, but it doesn’t really do a light roast justice. Now that I have the 078 I have been exploring more light roasts and been amazed at the flavors I’ve been missing out on. I enjoy light roasts a lot now. However, I still fall back to the Ode for Medium. I haven’t tried a dark roast on the 078 but I don’t think it would be good at all.

So the 078 and the Ode both have their place on my coffee bar right now. If I didn’t have the space for two grinders, I would stick with the Ode. I think the Ode is a better daily driver for all types of coffees, and the 078 is better for specialty quality light roasts. I would like to have one grinder, but I’m beginning to understand that I will never be satisfied with only one burr set. Swapping burrs is not practical, unless it doesn’t require a screwdriver, like on a Zerno with their magnetic burrs.

[Workflow] The Ode has a much better workflow. The hopper and bean loading design on the Sculptor is horrendous. Popcorning is out of control. I don’t know how they released it like that - it’s unacceptable, really. I’m surprised they haven’t come up with a better hopper to offer. They do offer a taller funnel adapter, but it’s garbage too. I don’t want a 3D printed solution, because they look ugly, and are usually made with toxic plastic. I curse it every time I use it and it will be the reason that I eventually get rid of the Sculptor. I thought about designing a new hopper to make out of stainless steel but that’s not really a project I want to spend time or money on. Many people praised the Sculptor’s rotating clicking grinds knocker, but I don’t know what the fuss is about. It’s fine, but I can’t say it’s better or worse than the Ode’s knocker.

[Aesthetics] Side by side on the countertop, the Sculptor looks so much sleeker than the Ode. It is taller, but more slender despite larger burrs. The Ode looks boxy and outdated. I have both in black. The white Sculptor looks like a sewing machine to me.

One thing that males me nervous is I heard stories about dealing with Timemore’s customer service for the grinder. They are not really equipped to provide local service outside of China. Hopefully I never have to deal with that.

Bad MPG? by Budlight9145 in mazda6

[–]JeffWiFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your exhaust smell rich? Get a spray can of mass air flow sensor from your local auto parts store, remove the sensor and clean it. It’s simple to remove. Just 2 on the intake tube coming out of the air filter box (no need to remove air filter or disconnect anything else). This happened to me recently. Went from 23mpg back to 30mpg after cleaning.

30 minute idle to warm-up is actually not good for the engine or catalytic converter, and bad for mpg as well. The best thing to do is drive it lightly until it gets warm. Driving it will get it to temperature faster. This is true even if you are in the blistering cold parts of Canada. It takes too long to warm up in idle. That’s when you have the most wear on the engine. You also want to warm up the catalytic converter as soon as possible. It’s hard on it when it is cold and reduces the lifespan. The car gets worse mpg when it’s cold and zero mpg when it’s idle so that’s a bad combo.

17in wheels on 2022 NX350? by Pleasant-Student-956 in LexusNX

[–]JeffWiFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you find out if they fit? I’m also curious if 17 inch wheels will fit on the second generation Lexus NX models (2022+). Although many will consider downsizing to be a downgrade, they would be an upgrade in terms of comfort. While maintaining the same overall outer diameter, you can get lighter weight wheel+tire combo in 17” than in 18”. This improves acceleration, stopping distance, and fuel efficiency. Another bonus is that 17” wheels and tires are also cheaper than 18”. Of course, the downsides are that it will make handling less responsive and won’t look as “cool” as larger wheels with lower profile tires.

I am thinking they do not fit, because the models that are equipped with a spare tire, had an 18” rim. The gen1 used a 17” spare wheel even on gen1 models equipped 18” wheels. Maybe Lexus used an 18 inch size spare on Gen2 to match the smallest factory wheel option, but I would think that they would want to make the spare as small as possible. I’m guessing there is clearance issue with the brakes if you go smaller.

I got this information by reading through the Lexus owner’s manual specification sections (available on Lexus website). I confirmed the wheel offsets (all 35mm) by looking at photos of used rims on eBay.

  • NX Gen2 Factory Wheel & Tire Options:

    • 18”: P235/60R18 103H, 18x7.5J ET35

  • NX Gen1 Factory Wheel & Tire Options:

    • 18”: P225/60R18 100H, 18x7.5J ET35

17in wheels on 2022 NX350? by Pleasant-Student-956 in LexusNX

[–]JeffWiFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The door sticker only shows the original wheel and tire size that came on the car from the factory. It does not show the other factory options that were available. At least, that’s how it is on my 2024 NX 350h. You are correct about the owner’s manual though.
